The latest candidate to have to sit down with the Lakers brass is none other than the potential frontrunner in the opinion of many. Byron Scott reportedly interviewed by the Lakers on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Chris Broussard:

Along with Scott, former Laker head coach Mike Dunleavy Sr. interviewed with the team in an interest in coming back for a second stint. Although Scott and Dunleavy are the first to get a shot at interviewing with the Lakers for the head coaching vacancy, the storied franchise will likely interview many more candidates in the weeks to come.

Scott has been mentioned as one of the top candidates for the job, but it remains to be seen how high the team is on bringing in the former NBA Coach of the Year.

    Scott gets my vote.

  • LakersHeatBeef

Now this is the right guy for the job IMO.I have a top 5 of coaches that i want the Lakers to get and Byron is in it.Yes hire one of my top 5 coaching preferences.

    1.Lionel Hollins
    2.Byron Scott
    3.Jeff Van Gundy
    4.Mark Jackson
    5.George Karl

    • Marcus Franco

Jeff can’t be on your list, he’s in Detroit now

      • Vi5ion

        Thats STAN Van Gundy

        • Marcus Franco

oh you’re right, I forgot about him.. My bad!

      • Matt Williams

        Yeah, wrong brother.

    • Jim213

As you command LakersHeatBeef but continue on as IMO 2,3,and 4 will get considerable interest.

      • LakersHeatBeef

Well i can appreciate any of those coaches. As we all know it’s never perfect but at the very least lets try to get it right this time around.

        • Jim213

I’d say Mark Jackson should also get interviewed. From what is being said the players (GSW) didn’t take too kindly of FO firing Jackson. Some have played the racial card as S Curry who very didn’t approve of his firing has expressed disapproval with some of FOs recent moves which goes for trading K Bazemore to the Lakers.

          • LakersHeatBeef

Yes i understand the GSW players love Mark Jackson and he fell out of favor with the Warriors ownership mainly Lacob over some personal issues.White Mamba and Mark Jackson beefed for a entire month or two.Yeah i agree Mark Jackson deserves a interview and perhaps he can get a phone call.

    • Kb24

No to 4 and 5 he said the gsw is better than the lakers and the other one said that he despise coaching the lakers….laker haters

  • Lakers Fan

If we can’t get Hollins, I’ll roll with Scott.

    • LakersHeatBeef

Agreed. If we can get Lionel then we dancing lol but Byron makes sense.

      • Lakers Fan

Byron makes sense if we can’t get Hollins. I think people are wanting him because he is an Ex-Laker and he took the Nets to the NBA Finals twice. But they fail to acknowledge he was fired the season following their second trip to the Finals and he hasn’t done anything since then. He has been fired from every head coaching job he has had due to his team losing. Lionel is the better coach as of now, but I would roll with Scott if we cant get Hollins.

        • LAstory

I’ll take either also… I wont be mad at Hollins or Byron…. but NO to Mike Dunleavy…please!!!

          • LakersHeatBeef

Yeah it’s a rough coaching market right now as nobody has some unblemished resume so far it’s Lionel Hollins and Byron Scott that seem good to me but the FO hasn’t spoken to Lionel Hollins apparently.Jeff Van Gundy would be a nice pick IMO.But yes at least it’s Byron in this article and not Mike Dumbleavy.

          • LAstory

I like the JVG move also hopefully he’ll get a call to interview by Friday!

        • uncle sugar

Yeah….but Hollins, and others never been to a NBA final….Byron Scott is the best choice.

        • nlruizjr

how many teams has hollins been to as an assistant ?

      • VillainKing

        Agreed of that decision!!

  • truth24

Lol Byron scott!!!!!! Sorry lakers are doomed!!!!!!!!!!

    • Untruth

      Truth24 your doomed!!!!!

      • Untruth

Truth24 if u have nothing to say good bout the lakers gtfo!!!

    • Dino Madness

Byron Scott who went to the NBA finals as a head coach with the Nets is way better than the two Mike’s. I’ll take Scott in a minute over the two Mike’s plus he’s part of the Lakers family. Have the Nets gone to the NBA Finals since Scott help them get there twice? The answer is no, not even with a payroll that was almost 200mil. You might not like Scott but he would be perfect for this situation and will eventually succeed here in L.A.

  • JohnSmith00

Please god just anyone but Mike Dunleavy, what the fuck is the FO thinking even considering him….

    • Dino Madness

You are aware this is the Jim Buss era, incompetence is the name of the game from now on.

    • Chrmngblly

We only hire coaches named “Mike.”

  • Jay Brodes

bout time…hire him and we got screwed in lottery..i wanted jabari..if we somehow land randle we get a stud! period!

    • Badazztj12

Noah has better potential. He boxes out and lead the NCCA in rebounding. He can be our defensive achor. He also has a bigger wingspan(7’4 and standing 6’10) plus he can post. I see more in him than randle

      • nlruizjr

Plus he’s just what 18-19, you know he will still add a few more inches and pounds to his frame, hell he already looks better than Kawmi and Bynum.

        • Badazztj12

plus I heard he is not lazy and a hard worker.
to me that’s already better than Bynum lol

  • michiganlaker

What about B. Scott as head coach and D. Fish as assistant coach?? Two defensive minded guys who have Laker pride. This way D. Fish can be groomed for head coaching position if Scott doesn’t work out. Thoughts Lakers family????

    • Sylvia Ross

That sounds like a winning combination.

    • Dino Madness

Why would D. Fish want to an be assistant for the Lakers when of all people Phil freaking Jackson wants him as a head coach in New York.

    • nlruizjr

      Scott-HC, Cooper- DC, Fish-OCA/DCA

  • Matt Williams

Hoping by tomorrow or in the coming days, Hollins can get a consideration.

    • LakersHeatBeef

Agreed.Lionel Hollins seems like the ideal fit for the Lakers team. Also early on Lionel Hollins reportedly had interest in the Lakers head coaching job.I hope he gets a interview very soon.

  • Lakers4Life

Jeff Van Gundy all the way for me.

    • independentbynature

      Please…..No Van Gumbys.

  • Badazztj12

This is some good news here

  • Sylvia Ross

Byron, I am hoping and praying that you get the job.

    • independentbynature

      Me too.Sylvia.

      • Sylvia Ross

So good to see you on line. Hope Byron, gets the job.

        • independentbynature

I really think he will,Sylvia. We’ll keep lobbying for him.

  • Armando

Hey for all the people trashing Byron Scott let me tell you all something i know first hand that on all the Clippers blogs they were wanting Byron Scott when they thought the deal with Doc Rivers was stopped by the NBA.So it’s not a bad thing that the Lakers interviewed Byron Scott he should be hired as the head coach.Mike Dunleavy is a awful coach and all the Clippers fans hate Dunleavy and they protested against him and asked for him to be fired.Yeah Byron Scott and a few other coaches should be in the running for the Lakers coaching job.

    • justsaying

A very good strategy indeed, let’s throw names to Clippers fans and wait for there reaction. we hire the one they love the most.

      #Clippers_blogs_knows_best

      • courtney harris

        Lmao

  • Fernando

Scott Brooks might get fired if the Thunder get swept in the WCF.I get a feeling they are about to fire Scott Brooks if he can’t make the NBA Finals. The Thunder just lost by 35 points to the Spurs.I would hire Scott Brooks for the Lakers in a New York Minute……Scott Brooks makes all these other coaches look silly record wise and with his strategy and his players love and respect him. It’s a win win.

    • Jim213

That was my first option but seems Brooks has the backing of OKC-FO tho anything is possible.

    • http://www.haveslot.com/ richard

NO NO NO… you have Durant and Westbrook… two of the best 5 players in the whole NBA and you are swept in the conf finals? That’s not a championship coach to me… very far from it….

      • Jim213

? Has been to the NBA Finals and won the WCF which is similar to Byron Scott tho coached in the East. They’re not hiring a top level championship coach tho some of the available ones are more than capable to lead the team as long as the roster gets improved.

        • http://www.haveslot.com/ richard

Still Scoot Brooks… is lacking championship coaching… strong team, average coach… Phil Jax can take that OKC lineup to multiple rings, they have been together for 5 years… just saying.

          • Jim213

Every coach they interview or go after will have flaws but brooks has been more consistent out of all. Although, another option but time will tell.

          • nlruizjr

Jim, Richard is right, why hasn’t Brooks taken them to the Title yet, infact he seems to be getting worse instead of better.

          • Jim213

IMO, Westbrook and Durant don’t mix as Westbrook seems to want to take over games more so than Durant at times. In the end believe it relates more to the duties/roles of the players which both don’t seem to blend in. Know your role but it seems to not be established for both.

          • http://www.haveslot.com/ richard

Jim. that’s what coaches are for… if a coach cannot get 2 alpha male to work together, he has no business sniffing ring stuff…

          • Jim213

Yes but given that Westbrook has a Kobe like demeanor without producing results things ain’t going to go anywhere. We’ve seen this in the playoffs.

    • courtney harris

      No! No!

    • nlruizjr

Brooks is a turrible (Barkley), defensive coach and his offensive consists of 2 guys.

  • untruth

Byron scott sucked coaching in cleveland. Might I add chris paul played for him and is next door. Doc rivers is still a better coach. Byron scott tried to keep lebron in cleveland but failed. He is not the right coach for the lakers.

    • vdogg

lebron was leaving CLE regardless… and no coach would have succeeded with what scott was left to work with. and get off doc rivers’ nuts already — he is a good coach, but let’s keep it in perspective. they were talking about running him out of town in BOS before the ‘big three’ came together. doc also had tracy mcgrady in his prime in ORL and couldn’t get out of the first round of the playoffs in the weak ass east.

      • independentbynature

Your reply said pretty much everything I wanted to say. These Byron haters are really getting on my nerves.A former coach of the year at New Orleans and back to back finals with the Nets and that’s not good enough for them. And Doc covered up our banners at Staples. He sucks.

        • Sylvia Ross

          My exact sentiments.

  • Daniel

Scott does not get my vote! He cant handle it. Just like Mike Dantoni and Mike Brown, we need a consistent coach for the Lakers. Who can bring nothing to something and has good history with a team. Not a team hopper.

    • http://www.foxhilldesign.com Josh

That’s exactly what Scott did in New Jersey and New Orleans/Oklahoma City. He turned two nothing teams into contenders.

  • Deone

I still think that Byron’s peaked as a coach and his best coaching days are behind him. Much like Avery Jonhson they’ve never got back to winning basket ball. Byron would be a great assistant coach maybe that can jump start his career again.

  • Gerald

The ESPN Bottom Ticker is reporting that Byron Scott got interviewed and their is at least 2 more candidates the Lakers will interview before making a decision on the next Lakers head coach. Please hire Byron Scott or Lionel Hollins. No just please no Mike Dumlame. Why did Mitch interview Dumlame?Lets interview Kevin Ollie he hasn’t closed his new deal or lets interview Jeff Van Gundy also.

  • Linkdeville

Byron Scott is the one coach I say has the team’s best interest at heart. I mean we’re talking about a man who has won as a player. Why would he not want to add a ring coaching the team that gave him the opportunity to ensure he left with hardware? He could come in with James Worthy as a assistant coach and take occasional advice from Magic. Plus, he already has a relationship with Kobe. IMO, that would ensure we return to the promise land. It just makes sense to hire him.

  • FrankL2010

Just no more “MIKE” please… the first two got the same fate. I would go for Byron Scott. He’s been wanting to coach the Lakers even after the Nets days. After all, being a Laker is in his blood

    • Chrmngblly

No, the coach has to be named Mike. It is part of Dr. Buss’ “Plan.”

  • courtney harris

Finally. Really hope he’s the guy. I just wonder who would be on his staff
    Fisher Rambis Luke ?

  • courtney harris

There are a lot of quality coaches out there that mainly are defensive minded coaches … It’s not so much the head coach we hire but the staff we’re able to surround him with… We can go wrong (though I want Scott)!

  • courtney harris

I think mark Jackson gets the Knicks job unless Phil really wants to bring back the triangle offense… Honestly I just don’t see why he coaches again. He wants to groom someone into the next him, but if he’s wrong with hiring a Luke or fisher – it’s going to be a mess in Kni .. Wait …. Never mind

  • TheTruthKills

I’m not sold on Scott. His coaching resume gets most of its strength from going to back to back finals with the Nets, but that was 12 years ago. He hasn’t done much since then. He had a couple of good teams in New Orleans that couldn’t get over the hump. He couldn’t get a whole lot done in Cleveland. I wouldn’t mind him getting the job. I’m just not sold.

    • LAstory

That’s a fair assessment… I’m all in for Byron….but your assessment is fair and understandable..

  • mamba24

    Please just choose byron scott.

  • wangkon936

Scott won’t get it because he’s myopic on the Princeton Offense. He tries to implement it every time he has a head coaching job. The Princeton Office was tried by Mike Brown in 2012, to disastrous results. Besides, a constant motion and read offense isn’t the best type of offense for a team with an aging Kobe Bryant (who probably just wants to stand in the post or the wing and initiate the offense).
