Lakers News: Steve Blake Traded To Golden State Warriors

UPDATED 6:29 p.m.

Steve Blake has been officially traded according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports:

Lakers to receive Kent Bazemore and MarShon Brooks from the Warriors:

Heading into and during the 2013-2014 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have made roster moves while simultaneously keeping a watchful eye on their luxury tax bill. The payroll slashing continued as Steve Blake has been traded to the Golden State Warriors.

According to Mike Bresnahan of the L.A. Times, the Lakers have traded Blake to the Warriors:

Blake is in the final season of the four-year deal he signed with the Lakers as a free agent in 2010. At the time of Blake’s signing, the Lakers were looking to retool for their run at a three-peat and it appeared as though they suddenly had a viable option to backup the aging Derek Fisher.

Instead, Blake never quite found his footing in Phil Jackson’s triangle offense and then suffered from injury under Mike Brown for two seasons. Blake appeared to be a good fit in Mike D’Antoni’s offense but again, his season became unraveled due to injury. The 33-year-old point guard missed 26 games with a right elbow injury that would have required surgery if he were a baseball pitcher.

Despite the elbow injury, Blake is averaging 9.5 points per game and 7.6 assists per game this season, both highs since his arrival in Los Angeles. With Steve Nash sidelined, Blake had nine games where he reached double-digits in assists. His season-high in assists is 16, which Blake had in a 114-99 win over the Detroit Pistons. Prior to injuring his elbow, Blake had emerged as a reliable three-point threat, but has seen his percentage drop significantly to 28 percent since suffering the injury back in November.

    Thus begins the salary dumping….

  • Matt Williams

    Jordan Hill is next!

  • 張棟崴

    Sad to hear that:(

  • Gregory Choa

Wow! Makes sense, actually, with Meeks & soon to be Farmar returning to the lineup, and with the surprising emergence of Kendall Marshall needing to continue his development…

  • AC52

I KNEW IT!! I knew the Lakers would take Bazemore and Brooks!!

  • Daryl Peek

Sad, sad day. Blake was a soldier! Will miss his leadership, heart and gritty play.

    • MR. JUAN_YOUR WARLOCK

Management actually did him very well, as this is a favorable situation for Blake, now with an opportunity to play meaningful minutes come playoff time…
Not only is Blake all of those points, but a very genuine person on/off the court, never the phony… Figuratively speaking, he’s always been a warrior and I will miss him, also!
…Hope he somehow makes his way back to the Lakers

      • Daryl Peek

        Well said

      • Dragon7s

He said he’s open to coming back to the Lakers in the summer so hopefully that happens.

Wish him all the best and good to see he gets to play for something with this being one of his final seasons…well-deserved

I had known this was going to happen,i posted about Blake to GSW a month ago.

I dont understand the management. As I was listening on the radio, I heard that he didn’t know about the trade until about an hour ago! What kind of communication is going on? I wonder what situation all the other players are in, especially Gasol. Knowing they could possibly be gone with no communication from the management or Jim Buss. What kind of message are we sending the players? Steve Blake could’ve possible returned next season but now he’s pissed off! I understand why we did the trade but just saying it could’ve happened in a more professional fashion.

    • kobe24

Can’t disagree with your point, Lakers should’ve alerted him before hand that a trade might have been happening smh

Blake is playing well lately but let’s be honest, he’s old and the Lakers want to avoid paying luxury tax this year. The Lakers really need to move quickly and trade Pau too. Suns are playing hardball with us. We gave them 1st round pick for Nash but now they don’t even want us one of their picks. Moral of the story, never do business with Suns again!

Moral of the story: Don’t make a bad deal, and expect that team to do the same for you. The Suns want to keep going up, dumping too high a pick for Pau could bite them in the ass.

I wish it was Harrison Barnes in return but nope.I remember when some crazy people were comparing Brooks to a young Kobe that is laughable lol.Just a salary dump.Bazemore is the king of the Summer League,he can defend and is strong.

  • Jay

I’m actually excited to see what Bazemore and Brooks can do for the next 29 games

  • ken

    helps the Warriors

  • Swaggy Rambo

Damn. I gave Blake all kinds of shit on twitter but I’m actually gonna miss the Blake Mamba.

I guess a money thing but the way they told Steve was wrong. You can’t leave these guys with a sour taste in their mouths about the franchise. Having him warm up for tonights game then go and tell him he’s traded as he’s getting ready for the game? As “afs” said this sends a terrible message to other players. Seems the only person they don’t want to piss off or treat like crap is Kobe.

  • Swaggy Rambo

Wow so the Lakers are going to try and trade Hill and Kaman instead of Pau. I guess they are treating one other Laker besides Kobe with some respect. We shall see what happens tomorrow.

  • Steve Blake

Warriors fans are going to love Steve Blake! Wishing you the best of luck, Steve!

  • Raffaele D’Abrusco

Good luck, Steve. You will be missed.

Sacre and Bazemore on the same team? Dream bench reaction duo!

    • Josh

The scary part is that they will probably both start some games.

      • http://people.ign.com/ltsjoemama ltsJoeMama

        lol true.

  • Sti1lmatic

Been following MarShon Brooks since he was in college. Always loved his game and wondered when and if he’d ever be a Laker. Hopefully they keep him and let him play

  • Sylvia Ross

I hate to see Blake go, but at least he’s FREE. He doesn’t have to kiss DAMTONIS ASS. Good luck Blake

    • Josh

Hey now that he is FREE from D’Antoni, I bet he never steps on another parking lot spike or hurts his elbow again.

  • Jim213

Blake held his own this season but best for business as he’s also close to reaching his mid 30′s. Might as well re-sign Meeks now but best to get some assets (picks) if more trades take place.

  • C*HarrisTHEboss

We couldn’t pull Barnes? What a worthless trade – we get rid of our emotional leader to pick up Bazemore who can’t score on NBA level talent – sad day in Lakerland

  • jeremy

Maybe lakers can get rookie brooks. I’m surprise he not getting more mins he showed a lot of talent in NJ. If we can get him avging 12 points a game that be a great trade for us

  • Rocker

PLEASE KEEP JORDAN HILL! just TRADE PAU OR KAMAN and meeks

  • Thomas Dease

JODI MEEKS SHOULD HAVE BEEN TRADED WTF!!

    • http://people.ign.com/ltsjoemama ltsJoeMama

      I hope you’re joking..
