Lakers News: Steve Blake To Undergo Surgery On Abdomen; Out 6-8 Weeks

The Los Angeles Lakers suffered another major blow in terms of injuries on Monday with backup point guard Steve Blake set to under surgery to repair a torn abdominal muscle. Blake’s return was thought to be right around the corner, but apparently that is no longer the case with the veteran set to miss considerable time due according to the team’s press release below.

Along with Blake set to miss as much as two months, Steve Nash will also continue to miss time recovering from the leg fracture suffered at the beginning of the season. Nash will not travel with the team on the three-game road trip.

Although veteran Chris Duhon and second-year guard Darius Morris continue to fill the void, losing Blake for that much time and still not having Nash ready to go is definitely not a good sign moving forward.

The Lakers currently sit in third place in the Pacific division with a 8-9 record. The next three games away from Staples Center will be against the Houston Rockets, New Orleans Hornets and Oklahoma City Thunder.

EL SEGUNDO – Lakers guard Steve Blake will undergo laparoscopic surgery this Wednesday to repair a torn abdominal muscle, it was announced today.

The surgery will be performed by Dr. Craig Smith and it is expected that Blake will miss a minimum of six to eight weeks.

Blake was originally diagnosed with the abdominal strain on November 12 and has missed the last 10 games with the injury.  In seven games this season (five starts), Blake is averaging 5.1 points, 2.4 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.29 steals in 26.0 minutes.
