Lakers News: Steve Blake Out Against Spurs With Abdominal Strain

The news of Mike D’Antoni’s hiring by the Los Angeles Lakers dominated the headlines on Monday with everyone shocked that Phil Jackson wasn’t given the job. Although many people in Los Angeles continue to scratch their heads wondering what exactly went wrong or why the decision was made to go with D’Antoni, the fact is that the Lakers have hired a new head coach and life goes on.

Currently, the Lakers are riding a two-game winning streak heading into Tuesday night’s matchup with the rival San Antonio Spurs.

Unfortunately, the Lakers will be without two of their top two point guards on the depth chart with Steve Nash (leg) still out at least another week and Steve Blake suffering an abdominal strain he sustained in the win over the Sacramento Kings on Sunday night.

Blake is listed as day-to-day and will miss the game against the Spurs according the Lakers’ recent press release:

EL SEGUNDO – Lakers guard Steve Blake underwent an ultrasound exam earlier today by Dr. Steven Yoon; results of the test showed a minor abdominal strain.  Blake will not play in tomorrow night’s game against the San Antonio Spurs and his status beyond that will be day-to-day.

With Blake and Nash out Tuesday’s game, second-year man Darius Morris and veteran Chris Duhon will be given the nod as starter and backup. According to Yahoo Sports’ Marc J. Spears via Twitter, Duhon is likely to get the start against the Spurs:
