As the questions surrounding soon-to-be free agent Pau Gasol continues to build, his brother Marc has made it known that Pau wants to be recruited in free agency.

In an interview with Marca.com, Pau hopes that the Lakers will offer him a contract that meets his standards:

I’m not ruling anything out, of course, I hope the Lakers will make an offer, one that is good enough for me to consider, but I’m open to any offers that I would consider interesting and motivating for my present and my future.

Having said that, Gasol talked about his interest to play with his brother in Memphis and explains that the Clippers would be a hard option to consider:

The city of Memphis attracts me because it’s a city I know, there’s an opportunity of playing with my brother and they have a solid team. Going to the Clippers would be very difficult for me because they’re our neighbors and there’s a very strong rivalry there. So it would be very difficult for me to consider that as a real option.

Later in the interview, Pau spoke briefly about he Chicago Bulls and the San Antonio Spurs. With the Bulls, the return of Derrick Rose and the possible addition of fellow Spaniard Nikola Mirotic was also another alternative for the seven-footer.

As for the Spurs, Pau talks about how San Antonio would be a very good option based on how great the team roster looks led by Greg Popovich as the head coach.

It’s still uncertain, but Gasol did say that he really has no first or second option in free agency not too long ago. Having said that, the two-time NBA champion also called the resignation of Mike D’Antoni another factor in his decision this summer.

Keeping Pau Gasol as a priority during free agency, the Lakers will try to persuade Gasol to return with a high draft pick in June and ample cap space to spend in July.

  • GET IT RIGHT THIS TIME !!!

Let Gasol walk I would rather sign Jordan hill and Love in 2015 no brainer Kobe wants Gasol adjust your new contract or don’t cry about it please don’t over pay this guy if signed don’t pay more than 6 to 7 mill. per year 3 tops and stop messing around sign Jerry Sloan as new coach LAKERS4LIFE !!!!

    • ffdasf

oh please.. jordan hill over pau?

    • Zimmeredge

You want a 17/10/3/1,5 center who’s got skills and court vision and a good team mate to stay for 6-7 m? Are you out of your mind? Are you delusionnal? And you want to keep jordan Hill instead? Hill who can’t play night in, night out more than 20-25 minutes per game?

      • rickyjayjaysmith

exactly people degrade pau because dantoni’s dumb style. Gasol still has a lot of skill its not his fault dantoni does not know how to use big men

    • http://www.haveslot.com/ richard

unreasonable! I have been one of the bloggers who insisted that we let go of Pau or sign him to a lesser contract. But 6M per year?!!!?… he can easily command 10M on other teams…. and I think that is the range he will get in his new contract… and Sloan?!!!??? he is too old, doesn’t have the energy anymore to coach a long season… give us a break!

    • rickyjayjaysmith

your dumb. good think your not the laker gm

    • prince

If gasol stays in lakers that is a lot of help for the rookies! He’s experienced and one of the skilled big man of all time.

  • hoperhetoric

Memphis is his best option! They are legit contenders this season because of Great rebounding & defense. 4 good defenders (Allen, Prince, Lee, Marc)

    • TAKE HIM PLEASE !!!

Gasol could make a lot of teams better especially small market with no pressure scrub teams this LA baby !!

  • Freddy Gutierrez

He needs to go to bulls. Or heat

  • Hector

He needs to stay with the Lakers for $7 million per or else go sign with OKC or Miami they need big men.

  • Hector

    Shit he best be staying.

  • Bill

For each person who says let Pau Gasol walk or go, if he perfect for the Lakers in the right offense with the right coach. Mike D’Anotoni was not a good coach and did not know how to use the personnel he had because every week he was swapping personnel around trying to mix and match! Keep Gasol, Hill, Bryant, Farmar, Sacre, Meeks, Bazemore, Henry, Marshall, Kaman, and Young…that leaves four spots to fill between trade and draft! Mark Jackson should be considered as a Head Coach candidate along with Bryon Scott and Fisher as an Assistant Coach.

    • rickyjayjaysmith

exactly man with dantoni pau gasol could not play his game! dantoni does not know how to utilize big men! pau gasol has a great deal of skill but it was shadowed by dantoni’s poor style of play.

      • Gemini Ac

        correct!

  • Hector

Maybe just maybe we can get a roster like this.

    PG Lance Stephenson,Marshall,Farmar
    SG Kobe,Bazemore
    SF Trevor Ariza,Xavier Henry
    PF Pau Gasol,Ryan Kelly
    C Joel Embiid,Chris Kaman,Robert Sacre

    • http://www.haveslot.com/ richard

PAu is most effective when playing center… in our championship years, he played center… why would you place him at the PF, when his agility has gone down? And Lance Stephenson is NOT a PG, he plays 2 and 3… man, what is happening? If we go with your lineup.. it should be…

      PG: Bazemore/Farmar/Marshal
      SG: StephensonMeeks
      SF:Kobe/Henry
      PF: Deng/Kelly
      C: Pau/Sacre/Hill

We can’t draft Embiid… he will be taken by the time we pick at 6th… unless some miracles bounce our way and we land the top 3 pick.

      • marlou anthony lorica

Pick Noah Vonleh, acquire Deng and point guard like Bledsoe or Devin Harris.sign all lakers except Marshawn Brooks, then trade other two player a 1st rounder draft,so many young talented rookie in the 1st round.
PG:Nash,Farmar,Bledsoe SG:Meeks.Brynt,Young SF:Johnson,Deng,Henry PF:Kelly,Vonleh,Hill C;Kaman,Sacre,Gasol. trade Bledsoe and Henry to the rigths to pick either Smart or Exum, 1st unit:smart or exum, kobe,Deng Vonleh Gasol, 2nd unit:Nash,Meeks,Young,Kelly and Hill, Rsv unit:Farmar, bazemoore,Johnson,Sacre

Run a Lionel Hollins post up offense or a Steve Kerr Triangle Offense and Pau is a great big man for the Lakers.Pau+Embiid can be awesome.

    • Robert L. I.

So you like the way Hollins likes to grind it out, nice and slow so you can nap during the game? Do the Lakers even have “the muscle” to afford a grind it out style of b-ball? Sure you want that slow it down shit here in L.A.? Wake me when is over.

      • http://www.haveslot.com/ richard

Our championship years were all grind it out teams… unless you are MDA… good luck with that. Entertainment has no value in winning a ring. We play to win, not to entertain.

        • cj

if your a true basketball fan a hard nosed grind it out game is entertaining.

  • Tyson

And now Pau Gasol talks about Defense

    *crickets*

  • Robert L. I.

What is all the fuss about Steve Kerr? He’s never coached. I don’t even think he was that good at GM. So what’s the love affair all about. I see a lot of parrots champion SK but why, cause Phil wants him. How about Marc Jackson. Jackson’s seem to do good around here. 3rd best defense this last season, and an exciting offense. He also lives here so that’s a plus too. His players love him each and everyone of them. He stated he never had rules or denied Jerry West anything. If Jimbo doesn’t hire someone who spies on him or tries to undermine him… It’s all good

Lakers, Marc Jackson is the one. Don’t eff this up! Three strikes Jimbo’s out!

    • http://www.haveslot.com/ richard

There is a very good reason why teams are high on Kerr….they know better than an ordinary fan… the greatest coach of all time, wants Kerr… so,why don’t you see it?

I have not problem with MArk JAckson… only that, he had a lot of talent in GSW, yet only manage a first round.. provided, the competition was strong… his offense was unflexible.. it was more iso plays.

  • EmperorKing

I would love to see Nene on lakers uniform than Gasol but its impossible Nene is not a free agent this year..

  • rickyjayjaysmith

im a laker fan but gasol should go to the spurs bulls or miami. He is still a very good effective player. he just did not get the chance to play his game because mike dantoni does not know how to utilize big men (big reason why dwight left) gasol was just overshadowed by dantonis style of play. Gasol is still one of the best centers in a league that lacks skilled big men with great post play. Gasol is underrated and will help any team a great deal.. thats if the team does not have dantoni as the coach lol

and just a thought about dantoni.. HORRIBLE decision that he makes the team play a run n gun style when the team has 2 great big men, great post players and had one of the oldest teams (when they had dwight gasol artest kobe nash).. EXACTLY WHY KOBE GOT INJURED HE IS NOT YOUNG. no sense at all. glad he left. feel so much better about the lakers now

  • Pelon

  • Pelon

  • Pelon

If you Hombres are gonna hate on Wesley then vatos i will change out Wes for Lance Stephenson or Deng.Vatos want to get loco over the Small Forward position of the Lakers.

    PG Bledsoe
    SG Kobe
    SF Lance Stephenson
    PF Julius Randle
    C Pau Gasol
