The Los Angeles Lakers will take on James Harden and the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night in the first of a three-game road trip. The Lakers will attempt to bounce back from a disappointing loss at home to the Orlando Magic, but will have to do it without Pau Gasol according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin via Twitter:

The trade rumors surrounding Gasol have been relentless as of late with talk of the veteran power forward not exactly fitting into Mike D’Antoni’s style of offense in Los Angeles. Although the rumors will likely continue up to the trade deadline on Feb. 21, the Lakers haven’t made any indications in terms of making a move before Steve Nash’s return in the coming weeks.

Gasol’s fate may be decided if the Lakers continue to struggle with Nash at the helm. Ryan Anderson of the New Orleans Hornets is reportedly the team’s top trade target in exchange for Gasol if they decide to go that route over the next two months. In place of Gasol, D’Antoni will start Antawn Jamison at power forward according to Mark Medina of the LA Daily News via Twitter:

Over the past week or so, many have speculated that Jamison may be the better option as the starter alongside Dwight Howard in the front court. Jamison has started to come into his own as of late and will have an opportunity to prove that he may be the better option with a solid performance in Houston.

they need to change that bench, get some young athletic talented guards to back up nash, and kobe. i think trading metta or pau or both of them, can work to. metta and pau have shown incosistent play. the ball needs to move and kobe needs to pass and not worry about scoring as much. yes they may have offensive talent on paper, but defense and rebounds wins rings. at the end of the day they should hang their hats on defense everynight!!!

Metta shown incosistent play are you serious dude come on. Metta and Hill gave been giving us effort Yes, Pau has dropped but you can’t say Metta has been inconsistent because so far there is nothing incosistent.

morris, blake, duhon, and ebanks aint going to win you a title!! those guys dont come out to play everynight and are inconsistent on offense and defense. come on now… lakers!! you need guys who hussle on defense and can score when need to.

I don’t get why a trade is even an option right now! Guys be patient. I know its frustrating to see them lose, I myself start yelling at the tv too, but with players like Pietrus , delonte west, and Bell out there why do we need to trade now? Just pick one of these guys up! We’ll be fine lakernation. Trust in your Lakers!

Pietrus signed with the Raptors and West is a head-case. Bell would be a nice addition.

Will be interesting to see how the Lakers play without Gasol. If they play better without him, he could be on his way to another team. This knee problem, however, may complicate a trade deal. I think he’s still a great player, but he’s going to have to play better than he has been so far this season if he’s going to stay in LA.
