This Lakers team has been destroyed by injuries to almost every key player, and now they may have another issue as leading scorer Nick Young has apparently injured his back, according to the LA Daily News’ Mark Medina:

Young had one of his worst games as a Laker tonight in the loss to the Mavericks, as he totaled only two points and three rebounds in 19 minutes. Young is averaging almost 17 points in nearly 30 minutes this season.

The Lakers have now lost eight of their last nine games, and Young has been one of their few bright spots this season. His scoring ability, along with his energy has kept the team in positive spirits despite the tough times the Lakers have experienced this season.

Despite his back issues, he is still expected to play tomorrow night in Houston, according to Medina:

Even if this ends up being a minor injury, having Young miss any time will be a tough loss as the Lakers have very few players who can create their own shot.

*Update: Young’s injury was initially sustained against the Denver Nuggets on Sunday, according to Mark Medina of the LA Daily News.

Come on! I don’t know whats going on, but somehow we are driving our players to injuries or something. We waive Williams and don’t play Kaman, and the FO doesnt feel the need to add backups.

Im sorry but I can’t stand guys having their health at risk for a coach who isn’t gonna bring us wins and bring us to the promise land. The FO needs to give Nash a harsh timetable of Feb 1 and no later, and if he can’t pretty much sustain a high level of play without injury, then I’m sorry but bye-bye and force him to call it quits. #2 D’Antoni has to be cut loose at the end of the season. #3 One more injury to another player, and its time to ship Pau and tell Kobe to hang it up for the rest of the year.

All what MDA system does is injury players, the Lakers is the most injury prone team in the NBA, same as the last season, the MDA system is a failure. Whoever said most NBA teams practicing MDA system that’s no true. MDA is false hope for the Lakers. He came to destroy Lakers legacy.

I kid you not i was watching the Lakers vs. Mavs game tonight and i took a look at the Lakers bench a couple times and the bench was literally empty just coaches and all the front seats were empty since Caveman was kicking it at the end of the bench tonight.Man now this Nick Young injury and you just have to wonder what in the hell is going on with all these injuries this season???Toughest times so far.

Young possibly injured?… wouldn’t be surprised if the coach gives him 40+ minutes against the Rockeetes. I’m seriously starting to wonder the lack of physical preparedness the Lakers trainers provide to the players? Time for a change possibly involving a new health training model or to bring in a rainman to Lakers facility.

I literally though the Lakers players were protesting playing the game that’s how empty the seats on the bench were tonight.
