Lakers News: Nick Young Expresses Sense of Urgency After Loss

Nick Young 11 17 13The Los Angeles Lakers are going through a tough stretch and have only won one game since Kobe Bryant’s return. The Lakers had a chance to grab a much needed road win over the Hawks on Monday night, but a horrid third quarter put the team in a big hole.

Nick Young did have a productive night, but the rest of his teammates could not follow suit. Young put in 23 points with five three-pointers, but the team still fell short 114-100. After the game, Young spoke to the media and it was clear that he considers the Lakers’ next match in Memphis is a must-win.

At this point, the Lakers stand at 11-13 and will have to get their act together as soon as possible. The Western Conference is very competitive and if a team falls behind in the standings, it will be very hard to make up ground.

The Lakers will travel to Memphis Tuesday night for their second meeting with the Grizzlies on the season. Los Angeles lost in November by a narrow margin, 89-86, but it will hope to seek revenge in the FedEx Forum.

Hang in there SWAG, the bench is doing everything you can-if u could get the point guard on the starters-to start passing to the open man, that might help, but that two man game is not going too get it…GOOD LUCK TONITE..

lol. i know who those two guys are. the kobe-gasol two-man game which is always forced by kobe and usually results to a brick or turnover. man, i miss the lakers in their first 19 games this year. it was fun to watch. this two-man game is so boring.

Yea dude – The team was super fun to watch earlier on. Now it mostly painful.

That is true but they were still a 500 ball club. I think the plan is to see if we can make the playoffs healthy and lean on our championship experience down the stretch. I think having no legit PG is more of a problem than trying to get the two superstars on the team going.

Part of what made the team exciting was Blake and farmar both competing to prove their worthy. You had the slowed down Blake style then Farmar and the bench brought in a change of pace exciting more energy vibe.

If and when the Lakers get a couple of healthy capable PG’s back I think some excitement will return? Hopefully we can find a way at that time to be more than a 500 ball club.

          Go Lakers !

definitely agree – blake n farmar were playing with some unreal confidence and it was infection to the units they were running. Without somebody to calm everyone else down bringing the ball up the court – sometimes we become a bit frantic and give up easy baskets. Even tho the grizz are hobbled and bad shooting team – i did see a lot of good stuff from everyone last nite. BTW – what do you think of Kaman never getting any minutes?

          • Paytc

I have no idea what that is all about? Perhaps Kaman looked at MDA’s woman the wrong way? Or she was a bit too into him :-) lol ….. Not sure, but I do think Kaman should be used more than he has been. I know there are a lot of hungry and capable players to rotate. But there are times in many games where I see using Kaman’s size and toughness as a plus. Not to mention he is a capable scorer.

Yes indeed we need some PG’s to return and bring back the change in tempo that was exciting. I do hope Gasol continues to build off of last nights performance. We will need more than one experienced (so call) superstar should we make the playoffs as I expect.

            Go Lakers

    • Entering the weekend, the Rockets’ Terrence Jones, Chandler Parsons and Patrick Beverley were the second-most effective plus/minus trio in the league at plus-20.5, but Beverley was quick to point out the reason: Houston’s two stars, James Harden and Dwight Howard. “We do the little things,” Beverley said. “Other teams get so caught up in James and Dwight, we just play off of them and take what we can.”

This is what Kobe sees in trying to get Pau going. I don’t know if Pau has that in him anymore and Kobe is not where he needs to be to lead like that. Time will tell but unfortunately we don’t have much room for times trial basis. These experimental losses continued will have us in a hole we can’t dig out of.

Good points ! Winning cures all ills. Hopefully they get a healthy PG or two to return because Kobe is still trying to get back to game speed after 7 months off. That was one of the reasons I wanted him to wait till Dec 20th to return. And that was my thoughts before all 3 PG’s went down. Asking Kobe to take over and run the team under all these circumstances is a bit too much to ask IMO. Hopefully we get a healthy true PG to at least limit Kobe’s responsibilities until he rounds back into high level playing form.

And we need max efforts and better defense. Go Lakers !

Of course there is a sense of urgency, especially when there is a slim-to-none chance this team will make the playoffs. The chemistry has been ruined since Kobe came back(unfortunately), we have no points guards, our defense is atrocious, we have no players worth trading and getting valuable pieces in return, and we have a head coach who makes the Lakers much less a desirable place to play due to his benching of players and style of play.

The main issue is the time it will take Kobe to get back to form. This team will go as Kobe goes, and right now it’s not looking too good. They can’t wait for Kobe to get healthy tho. That will take tooo much time. That’s putting too much pressure on Kobe, and it’s unfair to the team and Kobe. They have to start now, or they will be on the outside looking in when the playoffs roll around. This will be a long trying season, but with faith and effort anything is possible. Go Lakers!

Nick Young is awesome. My favorite newbie Laker is Swaggy P Nick Young.

    • Paytc

Yeah he’s cool ! But I like Farmar,Johnson and Henry as well. Then it would be nice to see a bit more Kaman. They are missing the PG’s that energized the team and already had a bit of chemistry going.

But it’s still not time to count the Lakers out. Just find a way to sneak into the playoffs healthy. And play our best Laker ball at money time.

      Go Lakers !
