Lakers News: Nick Minnerath Gets Invite To Lakers Training Camp

Nick-MinnerathThe Lakers have invited another wing to training camp, this time it’s little known Nick Minnerath out of University of Detroit. Minnerath is an undrafted prospect who played on the Sacramento Kings Summer League team averaging 5.6 points and 1.8 points in his five games.

While with the Titans of Detroit University, he averaged 14.6 and 5.9 rebounds while shooting 39 percent from behind the three point. While Minnerath’s shooting ability will surely raise some eyebrows, it was his athletic ability that got him the invite to camp. In a highlight clip provided by SLAM Online, Minnerath completed a series of dunks, alley-oops and showed an ability to get to the rim.

Minnerath is expected to join both Elias Harris and Marcus Landry in camp this year. Harris has a two-year deal with the Lakers and Landry has a small-guarantee which is widely considered to just be a camp invite to the team. Both Harris and Landry impressed on the Lakers summer league team and could be projects for the team moving forward.

It’s not expected that Minnerath makes the team, but it’s possible that he ends up on the Lakers D-League affiliate this season to refine his game. Regardless of what happens, Minnerath is excited and appreciative of the opportunity afforded to him by the Lakers.

Check out this youtube video provided by SLAM Online for some clips fo Minnerath playing with Detroit University.

Time will tell if this player can develop into a future birdman, though appearance wise close…

Didn’t play a lot of HS basketball.. totally unknown quantity entering his college varsity, undrafted… that’s basically zero credential. and yet this guy performed better than a lot of drafted players in the summer league. Could be a diamond in the rough… he will be better in the D-league though but the fact that he gets consideration this high is something, this a major major boast of confidence given by the LAL FO.

Nick played at the University of Detroit Mercy … There is no Detroit University … He is also nothing like birdman … All of his tats have a meaning and represent his life and what he has overcome … The Lakers should feel blessed to have a player of his character at camp, and hopefully for a long time down the road!

My father was shown videos by me of Nick Minnerath,Elias Harris,Ryan Kelly,Marcus Landry,B.J. Young,Robert Covington,Gorgui Dieng,Jackie Carmichael,Mason Plumlee,Rudy Gobert,Andre Roberson,Livo Jean-Charles and my father said Nick Minnerath was the best player out of that group of players.I myself love seeing Nick Minnerath highlights this kid can play the game of basketball,he is a ferocious dunker and he can shoot the ball to stretch the floor, makes 3′s all day,can play some decent defense, hustles hard, great size and strength.

Nick Minnerath is very legit and i actually think he can make the Lakers team if given a solid chance in training camp, you can’t simply ignore his talent.

I guarantee you the Lakers scouted 100′s of other players. It’s good he chose us as a team he will play for in training camp.If he doesn’t make the team we got a spot on the Defenders for Minnerath. But he will make it i hope at least.I just found this article about him sorry about the delay.
