Lakers News: Mitch Kupchak Talks Free Agency, Coaching And Julius Randle

The Los Angeles Lakers are coming off impressive results in the 2014 NBA Draft with the team bringing in Julius Randle and Jordan Clarkson.

With the draft in the team’s rearview, the focus turns to free agency and hiring a new head coach. All the pressure will be on GM Mitch Kupchak and Jim Buss to turn things around in Los Angeles with no guarantee that they’ll be able to do so over the course of the summer.

Kupchak made an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show on Monday morning to talk about all things Lakers. Kupchak addressed the vacant coaching position, upcoming free agency, results of the draft, and Kobe Bryant’s health.

Perhaps one of the most interesting things Kupchak said on Monday was that the team could have a new head coach in place in a week or two. Kupchak was asked about Byron Scott and gave the same answer he’s given over the past few weeks acknowledging the fact that he’s being seriously considered for the job.

Among other things mentioned, Kupchak talked about Kobe Bryant’s status, Julius Randle falling to the Lakers at No. 7 in the draft, and both Pau Gasol and Steve Nash’s immediate future.
