Howard and MitchAfter meeting with Dwight Howard for nearly two hours on Tuesday afternoon, team general manager Mitch Kupchak released a statement concerning their presentation to Howard. In his statement, Kupchak said similar things regarding Howard and the Lakers.

The entire statement, which can be read below, doesn’t give away much in terms of where the Lakers feel Dwight is leaning or not leaning, but simply states facts concerning today’s presentation and the team’s position moving forward.

“Jim Buss, Mike D’Antoni, Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Tim Harris and I, along with representatives from our partners at Time Warner Cable SportsNet and AEG, met this afternoon for approximately two hours with Dwight Howard and his representatives Dan Fegan and Happy Walters.  At the meeting, we told him how important he is to the Lakers team, franchise, fans and community, and why we feel this is the best place for him to continue his career.  We are hopeful that Dwight decides to remain a Laker.”

D howard is not coming back. Our line up stinks. Our back court is OLD SLOW. So forget D Howard man we are the LAKERS. This is no the LA Howards.

    laker suck!

Dwight Howard is one of the best players in the league and the best center in the league no doubt. But to be a laker you have to want to be a laker. I don’t like how the laker organization is basically on their knees begging for him. We’re the lakers man, they beg us to play. As good as Dwight is I think we should sign and trade him and end this once and for all. He won’t last under the pressure of carrying the Los Angeles Lakers. Dwight, love ya, but I think you should just go to Houston and continue your career there. Just saying.

Why is it “begging” to make it clear that we want Howard in LA? The Lakers can’t live on reputation. They have to have the best players to win. Howard is the best center in the league. It’s not rocket science.

What’s wrong with begging? This is not the Lakers of old. You won’t find many top players who would want to come here anymore. The current Lakers are old and un-athletic. If Howard leaves, which looks pretty certain at this point, the Lakers will be out of contention for any championship, let alone just making the playoffs. They will be irrelevant in the big scheme of things. But, in truth, they can do all the begging they want, but without making a coaching change, he is not staying, period!

Someone please fired Mitch Kupchak and coach Mike D’Antoni. Why are the Lakers waiting on Howard with all the available free agents out there (including Andrew Bynum)???

    • lakers_824

Lakers dont have money to sign any big name player!!!

    • hookedonnews

D’Antoni and Kupchak are not going to be fired. Howard is the best center in the league, and Bynum is a headcase with bad knees.

Rob Diesel has said it very well. I would like to add few words to that.
I am watching Lakers games since Jerry West and Walt Chamberlain and more actively at the end of the Showtime of Magic and Kareem. To this days, I don’t remember the Lakers organization to be humiliated this way from one player, who is not even close to the above mentioned names. Posting of all these banners across Los Angeles was an act of stupidity and self humiliation.
Dwight is the one who has to beg us to play for the Lakers. We don’t beg anyone.
He should release a short statement at the end of the season and say something like….” I am very thankful to the entire Lakers organization that they traded for me and get me out of Orlando last year. I feel blessed to be a part of this great franchise and will look forward to continue my success with this team.”
Simple, but good enough to stop all this speculations named Dwightmare.
