Lakers News: Mike D’Antoni Thinks Steve Nash Will Play Again This Season

Heading into the matchup with the Dallas Mavericks on Friday night, the consensus was that Steve Nash would be playing his last game of the season. Nash was only 12 assists away from passing Mark Jackson on the NBA’s all-time assists leaders list and seemed determined to achieve that milestone.

Unfortunately, Nash came five assists shy of passing Jackson as he dished out seven against Dallas. Although many believed Nash was playing in his last game of the season on Friday, head coach Mike D’Antoni believes he’ll play again at some point during the final six games for the Lakers according to Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters:

Nash may have dealt with injury problems all season long for the second year in a row, but the two-time NBA MVP has played well as of late. Nash has been limited in terms of minutes with concerns of re-injury. Despite that being the case, the veteran point guard has shown flashes of his form from the past.

Following the loss to the Mavs, the Lakers only have six games left with the next matchup being on Sunday against the Los Angeles Clippers. The Lakers suffered a devastating loss to the Clippers last month losing by 48 points as the home team at the Staples Center.

The Lakers will attempt to avenge that loss to the Clippers while keeping with playoff spoiler mentality moving forward. Chris Paul and company have already punched their ticket to the playoffs, but they’re playing for position in the Western Conference playoff picture.
