The Los Angeles Lakers are having problems finding their identity, and their putrid record shows that this team is no where close to championship form.

The Lakers franchise is used to winning championships, and is one that does not accept mediocrity. Lakers legend Magic Johnson has been very active on Twitter and he has been constantly critiquing this Lakers team with his account. After the Lakers’ loss to the Denver Nuggets Sunday night, Johnson used Twitter to voice his opinions on the team.

The Lakers are struggling this season and as of this point, they are three games out of the eight spot in the Western Conference. The players are not performing as a cohesive unit and the chemistry on the court seems to be lacking. On top of that, the Lakers aren’t playing with any intensity and they tend to only play hard in the final quarter.

As for Howard, he has not been very efficient on the offensive end and his post moves are quite limited. Nevertheless, Howard needs to find other ways to be effective from the paint and start dominating like he used to when he was with the Orlando Magic.

The Lakers will hope to snap this three game losing streak Tuesday night when they head to Houston to play the young Rockets team.

Does Magic Johnson believe these tweets are helpful to the team? I’m sure if he had been fouled (with no calls) as often as Howard, he would have complained, too. Not saying that Howard is accomplishing anything by complaining, but the guy is human. The officiating in the NBA is a joke. I’m beginning to wonder about Johnson. He calls the Clippers the return of Showtime, and now he’s publicly criticizing a player that the Lakers are hoping to keep in LA. Whose side is he on, anyway? Gasol is also getting enough criticism without Magic calling him soft. When fans say these things it doesn’t mean much, but when Magic Johnson says them it has more impact. I’m thinking he should keep his constant criticism to himself.

I hope Magic’s insight on Dwight helps Dwight choose to leave. Or, perhaps Mitch will realized Dwight Howard is not the future of a winning franchise.

The Lakers could have used Dwight’s rebounding and defense last night against the Rockets. What other player could the Lakers bring in that would give them the same things that Howard brings (I mean someone we could realistically get)?

          Pau

Pau is on the downside of his career. That tendinitis in his knees is probably not going away. He doesn’t bring the defense and rebounding that Howard brings. Hopefully we’ll have them both, so we can have Pau’s offense and Howard’s defense.
