Lakers News: Los Angeles Wary of Dwight Howard’s Back

The Los Angeles Lakers made a big splash this off-season by acquiring Steve Nash and people expect them to continue to improve the roster. The next big name currently on the trading block is Dwight Howard and there is a chance he may end up in Los Angeles.

The Lakers have the best asset of all the teams interested in Howard to offer the Magic, that being Andrew Bynum. Bynum is the second best center in the NBA and the Magic cannot find a better replacement for Howard.

Still, no deal has been made and there are several roadblocks impeding any progress. One of them is Howard’s reluctancy to sign long-term with the Lakers, something Howard said he would be willing to do if he were to be traded to the Brooklyn Nets.

Eric Pincus of HoopsWorld writes that the Lakers are more worried about Howard’s back problems than his long-term future with the team.

The Lakers biggest concern is the status of Howard’s back which the source indicates they believe has been healing “very slowly.”

If Howard does indeed return to 100 percent, the Lakers have to make a strong effort to complete the deal. Howard is the best big man in the NBA and if the Lakers win a championship or come close, it will certainly be hard for Howard to pass up on an extension

Howard doesn’t want to come to L.A., so why welcome him? Let’s have a little dignity, keep our core players.

I agree I Would rather keep bynum and gasol they compliment each other and with Steve Nash being added we will be a elite team again

I wanted josh smith but honestly I’m over any big deals, wat the lakers need to worry about is improving one of the if not the worse bench in the league.. That’s all LA needs if they want another championship..

What we need is someone like grant hill or even sign Jordan hill back and get grant hill so u have more then one coming off the bench that can defend n score. So the bench Would be grant hill Jordan hill Steve Blake bynum and Darius Morris or Devin ebanks

bynum for dwight is a good deal for the lakers. I’d take dwight’s back than drew’s knees. a knee injury is more devastating to a basketball player’s career than an injured back, though am not saying back injuries are not serious matter. And dwight frankly is the better center. plus if they could send blake rather than mwp it would be better. we need some D specially on mwps position for players like lbj, durant, melo, etc.. and with blake gone that could open some playing time for Glock, morris and j-odom (assuming hel be, on the roster but accdg to this rook’s background he got some talents). But if howard doesnt want to be in la then lets not push it. we still got the 2nd best center in the league that could matchup with dwight anytime of the day. given his healthy;) sigh…

Ppl really want Josh Smith for Pau? That’s just crazy. Josh is a poor mans Odom. He takes crazy shoots outside of the offensive plan. Maybe some of u havent seen him play enough…there is a reason know one has tried to get him. Taking Josh SMith over Pau is like taking a high school drop out over someone with a PHD in a spelling B.
