Nick Young is currently leading the Lakers in scoring at over 16 points per game, and his energy and personality in the locker room has kept the team’s spirits up despite the numerous injuries, and the Lakers recent slump, having lost 10 of their last 11 games.

Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak has taken notice of Young’s play. Young has a player option after this season, and regardless of what he chooses to do, Kupchak, in an interview with Mike Trudell, said that he wants to keep Young in purple and gold:

Going forward, there are a number of things to determine. Who knows. Money is important to Nick as to all players, but you can watch him play and he just loves to play. Some guys treat it as a job, but Nick loves to play. He has fun and basketball is a big part of who it is. Whatever he decides to do with his opt out … we’d certainly like to see him be a Laker for a long time.

Young would definitely be an excellent part of any contending team as he thrives as an explosive scorer off the bench. As the Lakers move forward, looking to add new players to the roster, Young is definitely one who fits in with the culture and whom the fans love.

Young will undoubtedly receive much more lucrative offers if he decides to opt out after this season, but it seems like Kupchak is set on keeping him around as long as the price is right.

Yes yes yes yes, heck I wouldn’t mind giving Nick young Steve Nash’s contract lol

  • Marty Susman

Farmar, Young, Henry, Hill & Meeks would make the BEST bench mod in the NBA. If Mitch decides to sign them to a longer then one day contract, they can also be packaged & traded so Mitch is in a win win with resigning them to say 3 year deals. Gasol, Blake & Johnson need to go for 1st round picks…

    • e3bonz

I doubt any team would give up first round picks for these guys.

      • Marty Susman

The first round has 30 picks…. After say the 6th or 7th pick no team could get a forward like Gasol.

        • e3bonz

Pau’s a FA in July, and I don’t think LA will get any picks for him.

He needs to practice his first step move! Kobe should teach him so he can easily beat his defender off the dribble & get into the paint. Hes always making crossovers just for jumpshots but not for attacking the paint!!!! he he does that, he will be an all star that can score 20+points in everytime….

plus he needs to learn how to pass the ball… first: fundamentally sound chest passing…

It is times like these that fans are sifted as in the wheat is sifted from the straw. A good day to be a LA Lakers fan.

    Go Lakers!!!

  • Bill

  • Devon Samuels²⁴

Yea I agree I want him to stay for a while Go Lakers!!!

  • Fantomas

I feel really sorry for Nick. He has got his dream come true at the very wrong time.A childhood dream to become a Laker one day turned to disaster for this very talented young man. All he need to do is to keep playing hard and not losing his confidence. In a year or two, this team will dictate the basketball world again and he will be a major piece of that group. I can see in him the next KOBE BRYANT.

    • Kobe24

I Agree with you Bro. Nick has his talent, he just need to be consistent so that someday he can be an allstar.

  • Lord of the rings

    Nick is a keeper.
