Lakers News: Kobe Still Unsure If He’ll Be Ready For Season Opener

There are many uncertainties facing the Los Angeles Lakers going into the 2013-14 season. One of the top uncertainties is what kind of form Kobe Bryant will return in after undergoing Achilles surgery last April.

While Bryant himself has already stated that the usual recovery timetable and process has been “shattered” in his particular case mostly due to medical advancements and innovations, an exact date for Kobe to return to the floor has not been made known.

According to the L.A. Daily News’ Mark Medina, Bryant remains uncertain if he will be ready to suit up for the 2013-14 season opener, saying:

‘I don’t know [whether] that means I’ll start the season – I hope so,” Bryant said in a recent interview to Time Out Dubai to promote his upcoming trip there later this month to host a basketball clinic.

However, Bryant also commented on all of the progress he has made during the offseason concerning his Achilles, stating:

“I’m feeling pretty good,’” Bryant said, ‘stronger than I was. I’m ahead of [my recovery] schedule.”

Bryant completely ruptured his Achilles on April 12 in a regular season game against the Golden State Warriors. After he had surgery to repair the injury, Bryant was given a recovery timetable of at least six to nine months.

Since then, Bryant has kept fans in the loop during his recovery and rehab via social media, with the latest posting of a Vine video of him jumping off a 40-foot high-dive. It was also reported that informal workouts had begun at the Lakers’ practice facility earlier this week, and Bryant was present. However, as Medina wrote, Bryant has not participated in basketball-related activities as of yet.

The Lakers begin the 2013-14 season of October 29 against the Los Angeles Clippers.
