Shortly after Randle was drafted, Kobe Bryant took to Twitter to welcome his newest teammate:

The rumors were running rampant heading toward Thursday’s draft about the Lakers’ intentions. Talk of the franchise making a potentially game-changing trade began to circulate, but the team instead chose to go with Randle on draft day.

Drafting Randle may ultimately be the right move for the Lakers as they attempt to rebuild with a solid young core. Randle’s draft stock did take a hit with talk of a foot injury, but it may have worked out in the Lakers’ favor.

With Pau Gasol and Jordan Hill potentially headed elsewhere in free agency, Randle may have a chance to play immediately. Kobe already seems to be fan of the pick made by the Lakers which is always a step in the right direction.
