Lakers News: Kobe Bryant Talks Nick Young Altercation, Team Reaction

After another tough loss to the Phoenix Suns, the main story coming out of the game was the altercation between Nick Young and several Suns. With his reaction and teammates’ responses after the game, Young did not like that none of his teammates backed him up during the scuffle.

Young’s teammates were not too happy about it with Kendall Marshall saying that Young should have reacted better. Rookie Ryan Kelly was also angry about being called out on Time Warner Cable Sportsnet by former Laker Robert Horry. Kobe Bryant spoke to the media on Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters asked him about the altercation:

It seems as if Bryant understands where Young is coming from. In the heat of the moment, Young felt disrespected and all he saw was white jerseys around him. Kelly was in the area, but was basically a non-factor and no one seemed anxious to go to the situation.

In the NBA, there are certain players who you know will step in the face of anyone who disrespects their teammates. Kendrick Perkins, Matt Barnes, and Laker favorite Derek Fisher are all players who will make sure nothing happens to their teammate.

The Lakers don’t need someone starting fights and escalating situations for any reason, but a teammate should never feel abandoned either. There is a thin line and as Bryant said, these young players will learn that.

i also have questioned Nick before for having a losers mentality but now he seems way more serious and much more hungry to win.He is competing every time he plays back in the day he was a different player he was young and didn’t have the competitive spirit he has as a Laker.I hope Nick Young stays on the Lakers.

I must agree… I too have seen him having a losers mentality approach to the game… but he is learning with Kobe around. That’s what we call experience… that is why, I am not so sold about building through the draft as oppose to free agency and trades… it requires more years to get back to championship when doing it through the draft.

Nick has a winning spirit becuz bein with an organization with such rich history that the lakers have it brings out the best in u….it makes u hungry to have ur name on the list of champs. It makes u wanna be a true champ….some people can’t hang obviously with guys like Dwight coward but I mean hey that’s old. Anyways point is u see nick just getting his stride and realizing that it takes a lot to become a champ and I truly beleive he will be able to do so if he decided to stay with the purp and gold
