Lakers News: Kobe Bryant Coaches Nick Young From The Sidelines

Nick Young’s biggest moment donning the purple and gold came Monday night during the Los Angeles Lakers’ overtime loss to the Chicago Bulls. He said the three free throws he knocked down to force overtime was the most pressure he’s felt on the court since he’s been in the NBA. Fortunately for Young, he had the best under pressure man in the business, coaching him on the sidelines.

“Kobe was right there telling me, guiding me like a coach too from that sideline, telling me what to do and keep my head up after I missed the first shot,” Young gushed after the game. “Kobe’s been a great mentor for me…and that’s been unbelievable for me this whole year, just learning from the greatest player to play this game.”

Kobe and Young talk to each other quite a bit. Before Young’s altercation in Phoenix, Bryant thought there was a certain “combativeness” missing from Young’s game. The will to compete wasn’t quite developed. Bryant’s opinion started to change after the game in Phoenix.

After Young signed with the Lakers, he was vocal about feeling disrespected by other teams not giving him a chance. After seven years in the league, this was Young’s chance to do more than just talk a big game.

“This is where big players step up,” Young thought to himself as he stood at the charity stripe, mentally preparing to sink three free-throws after drawing the Joakim Noah foul.

Young exhaled a sigh of relief after his first free throw seemed to clank on every which part of the rim. Nevertheless, Young stepped up sinking all three free-throws. Even Kobe was forced proudly on his feet. Pau Gasol described the way Young gets fouled shooting 3′s as “incredible.” Ryan Kelly has said Young’s one of the best in the game at it.

Slow your roll on the Swaggy P, Black Mamba comparisons. Swaggy P isn’t the next Black Mamba.

“I can’t play like Kobe. There’s only one Kobe,” Young chimed in with a grin. When a reporter tried calling him ‘Swag Mamba,’ Young wasn’t having it, “You can’t call me Swaggy Mamba. It’s only Swaggy P.”

Young may think Bryant is the greatest to have ever played the game, but that doesn’t mean he wants any part in Bryant’s Black Mamba trademark. All Nick wants is for people to remember Swaggy P.

I HAVE A FEELING THAT THE LAKERS WILL SOMEHOW AQUIRE RONDO AND MELO NEXT YR. THESE TWO HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT TRYING TO PLAY TOGETHER ON A TEAM. WHY NOT JOIN KOBE, THE MOST HUNGRY PLAYER TO WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS, AND TRY TO WIN ONE BEFORE KOBE RETIRES. SWAGGY OFF THE BENCH WOULD BE EXTREMELY FUN TO WATCH!

    RONDO/MARSHAL/FARMAR
    KOBE/MEEKS/HENRY
    MELO/YOUNG/HARRIS
    WESLEY/KELLY
    HILL/SACRE

WOULD HAVE TO REALLY LOOK TO PICK UP A BIG IN THE DRAFT. IF THEY KEEP UP THE LOSSES POSSIBLY EMBIID, BUT THE WAY THIS GUY IS FINISHING AT THE RIM, HE’S NO SECRET ANYMORE. WILL GET DRAFTED TOP 5

I know he wants to stay, but how do you know that he will take such a substantial paycut?

You should try writing without the caps lock key on. People will take you more seriously.

Are you dumb? Rondo Hates the Lakers and Kobe. He wore his headband upside down bcuz the Logo is a Laker Legend. He’ll never play with Kobe. And get off the Marshall bandwagon, I’ll take the PG who ran the Bench Mob in those Championship years, the guy with 2 Rings, over him ANYDAY! And what makes you think Hill wants to resign if Dumbantoni is here, he doesn’t get Mins here, stupid coach rather play Sacre. No bigs want to play for him! Except Gasol bcuz he loves the Lakers. TURN YOUR CAPS OFF PLZ!

“are you dumb?” Coming from the guy wearing SHANTS??Ha Do you even watch the laker games or do you just read what the media puts out? Evidently, you have ate all the nonsense bulls!#* that the reporters feed to fans like you, who point out rondo wearing a headband upside down. How is this relevant to Rondo not wanting to play with Melo & Kobe? The NBA is a business, not a reality show. These guys are professionals and like any other job, success (WINNING) is what the goal should be. That is why the NBA is turning into All-star filled team or bust (i.e. heat, rockets, blazers, warriors).

Oh, I did not know you had contact with Hill or any big at that in the NBA? I have yet to read an article or report that has stated that Hill wants out of LA. Link please..?

        • dylan

rondo is not COMING to the lakers

      • dylan

hill does get mins and coach would play hill over sacre

    • dylan

      not rondo

  • roscoe

Would love Bledsoe but unlikely, so Lowry and Stephenson would be good targets to fill up the backcourt with someone like Ed Davis as a big. Keep after young guys. Plus a high draft pick.
