Lakers News: Kobe Bothered By The Lakers Trying To Trade Gasol

NBA: Indiana Pacers at Los Angeles LakersWhen Pau Gasol joined the Lakers in 2008, the veteran forward would become the secondary piece needed to put the Lakers over the top and would eventually help lead the Lakers to back-to-back NBA titles. Along the way, Gasol and Kobe Bryant forged a great relationship and friendship.

Gasol has been in non-stop trade rumors over the last couple of years and was a part of the infamous Chris Paul vetoed trade. Apparently, these trade rumors have bothered Kobe Bryant through the years as he shared on his ‘Kobe Up Close’ special on AXS TV:

“It bothers me. We won two championships with Gasol anchoring. Then Bynum started to develop so we tried to include him. Then we traded for Dwight and we had to incorporate him. And through the process we forgot how we won championships in the first place. Pau was constantly being asked to change his game and it put him in a tough position.”

Kobe raises a very interesting and true point. Gasol was arguably the best player on the floor in Game 7 of the NBA Finals against the Boston Celtics in 2010, yet when someone new was brought in or changes had to be made it was always Gasol that was asked to make the sacrifice.

Gasol never complaining about the trade rumors, or his ever-changing role with the Lakers, speaks a lot to his character. And despite his numbers dwindling in the last couple of years, Gasol has played every role the Lakers have needed him to play which really shows his diverse skill set.

Needless to say, Gasol will get the chance to be a centerpiece of the team again this season and maybe now we will see him once again lay claim to being the best offensive big man in the NBA.

It’s about staying consistent, yes Dumbtoni has moved him around but the mental aspect hasn’t been there like in the past. Now that the franchise has spoken I guess Pau has bought himself some time but come close to trade deadline if he doesn’t manage to step up his game it’d be time re-argue the issue, especially with the high salary that’s coming to the 2nd man?

I’m certain Daryl P agrees too no arguments there…

You know I believe Pau has already earned his. D’Antoni is not the only one who’s asked Gasol to change his game. This has been going on since Phil’s last season coaching. Kobe agrees with all of this also. lol Kobe was asked to change for the first time this past season. Your consistency argument is moot because talents/mentalities like Kobe are rare.

The only fesible reason to move Pau is if nearing the trade deadline the season looks lost. If you can avoid the repeat offender luxury tax and get something for Pau, thanks for everything and good luck in the future…

or if the season is good enough he’ll be propose to sign a new contrat year by year or for two seasons.

Agreed, as a huge Gasol fan I’d love to see the Spaniard stay on. We are 5+ mil over the luxury tax and something will have to be done by the trade deadline.

Gasol is the epitomy of class in a world of selfish, whiny, punk ass, disrespectful, spoiled pro sports players. Nothing but respect.

  • Lakers4Life

Gasol has won us 2 championships, but he is still Gasott the cry-baby whiner. “I don’t want to sit on the bench~~~~!!! I’ve always been a starter~~~~~! *cry cry cry*”

    • Daryl Peek

Gasol still went out and performed to the best of his ability even though he was injured and benched for Howard. 18/12/7/1.5 down the stretch…

The Lakers are in a huge bind they are over the luxury tax.We are going to try to avoid the repeaters tax by very likely trading Steve Blake and Jordan Hill for picks.Pau Gasol is likely safe on the Lakers roster,he will not be traded.

Also if we can’t find any takers for Steve Blake and Jordan Hill then yes it’s a lot more likely Pau Gasol gets traded for a cheaper contract and picks. But all Kobe Bryant wants is Pau Gasol on his team.Pau is his favorite teammate.
