The main topic of discussion in the NBA this week is the alleged racial comments made by Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling. Everyone has chimed in about the Sterling scandal with quite a few former Lakers expressing their opinions on the topic including Magic Johnson and James Worthy.

The latest former Laker to address the Sterling scandal and the nationwide reaction is well known activist Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The NBA’s all-time leading scorer said the following about the scandal in a piece he wrote for Time:

What bothers me about this whole Donald Sterling affair isn’t just his racism. I’m bothered that everyone acts as if it’s a huge surprise. Now there’s all this dramatic and very public rending of clothing about whether they should keep their expensive Clippers season tickets. Really? All this other stuff I listed above has been going on for years and this ridiculous conversation with his girlfriend is what puts you over the edge? That’s the smoking gun?

As Jabbar made abundantly clear, the six-time NBA champion is more upset at the fact that Sterling has had outbursts in the past and only now are people making a big deal about alleged comments made by the longtime NBA owner.

After a couple days of reviewing the tape obtained by TMZ, the NBA will hold a press conference on Tuesday to make an announcement about its investigation involving the owner. While the Clippers took off their warmups and turned their shirts inside out in Game 4, it’ll be interesting to see what they do in their first home game since the alleged comments.

    I assent with #33

Kareem with the best response so far. The league, L.A. and most of these players & owners knew about sterling’s past/ present.

So how bad can we really feel? I personally find it disturbing and funny in the same breath

Not to mention, our mainman magic Johnson with the “setup”.

The relationship between the woman in the tape & magic extend beyond a picture. Bring the asking price down, villify sterling & seeing makes sense. Lol too obvious

Yahoo sports reporting magics group, only 48 hours after news broke, wants to buy the clips after the buss family said no. That’s convenient. Maybe we can finally hey Chris Paul

  • TheTruthKills

Kareem keeping it real on all angles. Nothing more need be said.

Kareem, you the man, but I don’t think that’s what happened at all. I think this is new information to many many people. There is a huge number of nba fans that are causal watchers who basically only watch their team play. So of course it could be surprising!

    • Josh

Clippers season ticket holders probably are not those “casual fans” who are just now hearing about this for the first time.

    • Rob

It could be surprising but it aint. You the only one surprised.

To me the woman is vindictive cause she knows Sterling wife is suing her for 1.8 millions. What better way for her to push Donald Sterling to say something racial. I wouldn’t be surprise if Magic have something to do with it. Magic and his partner wants an NBA franchise bad. There is always a double standard. Spike Lee, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton would say something racial and nothing happens to them. If other minority say something against blacks they always plays the race card. I was laughing at my co-worker that the Clippers is like a plantation and the players are the slaves. Wow, the players lives in mansion and earn millions of dollars. I told him where do I sign. I think Donald Sterling will sell the team and the buyer will be Magic Johnson because of the intense pressure his getting.

Thats the dumbest “****” I ever heard. What planet are you people from?

  • A Fan

I think the main reason everyone’s only reacting to Sterling now is that back then, no one gave a crap about the Clippers. Heck before these recent comments, the last time I heard anything from Sterling was when he spent big bucks on Baron Davis. Now that the Clippers are at the top and the Lakers are at the bottom, what the Clippers franchise do, from the owner to the coaching staff to the players, is pretty much under-the-radar.

    • Rob

It wouldnt matter how much on top you think the clippers are. One thing has nothing to do ith the other. And the lakers will never be on the bottom of the clippers, all those banners hanging in the rafters belong to the LAKERS pottna! Remember that!!!

      • A Fan

I’m not bashing the Lakers or praising the Clippers. I’m simply stating that because the Clippers have one of the best records in the league while the Lakers have one of the worst, the Clippers are getting much more attention from the media and fans than they have in franchise history

        • NeoLegendX .

          not the atention they wanted

  • Alexandra Taylor

I am with Kareem. This is not new news. But what I would like to know is do the players and coach feel badly enough to not take their pay check?

    • Rob

Why should nt they take their pay, they worked for it.

  • NeoLegendX .

not surprised, evil will always be in our lives

  • rena

I bet if they say a comment about latinos nobody will make a big deal lol
