Lakers News: Jordan Farmar Says Buss Family Is ‘Committed To Winning’

Only four games remain in the 2013-14 NBA season for the Los Angeles Lakers and changes are bound to take place this summer with players coming and going.

One of those players that may be sticking around for another season or two is two-time NBA champion Jordan Farmar. Although Farmar has battled injuries this season, the veteran point guard has played well enough to earn another contract with this team and wants to return.

Despite coming off the worst season franchise history, Farmar says the team wasn’t given a fair shot due to countless injuries according to Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters:

Along with commenting on the worst season in franchise history for the Lakers, Farmar remains confident that GM Mitch Kupchak and the Buss family will be able to right the ship via Winters:

Heading into the off-season, the Lakers brass will have some tough decisions to make in terms of which players they intend to re-sign from the current roster. It is unclear at this point which players the team may be targeting to return, but Farmar may very well be one of the few.

Other notable players set to become free agents this summer are Pau Gasol, Chris Kaman, Nick Young, Jodie Meeks and Wesley Johnson. Gasol is obviously the biggest name on this list and hasn’t ruled out a return to the Lakers, but many anticipated that he’ll test the free agent waters and may have already played his last game with the team.

Regardless of what anybody says – next year is going to be a disaster as well

    • Chippaz

Your not a real fan. First of all Dantoni is gone next year, we have no players to fit his style. Kobe is back, a top 5 draft pick in the best draft since 2003 (Lebron,Carmelo,Wade,Bosh etc)
It is not overhyped trust me I know I did watched these prospects over and over and made highlights on all of them. Joel Embiid has potential to be one of the best centers ever. Dante Exum has potential to be the next Kobe. Julius Randle is going to be a top 5 power forward in the NBA. We have solid role players already on the roster (Bazemore, Hill, Henry, Meeks). Lance Stephenson, Gordon Hayward, Greg Monroe are free agents and Pau Gasol might do a sign and trade.

Im just realistic. I will still support the team no matter how bad they are and continue to follow all their progressions. Forgive me for having a differing opinion. Exum the next kobe? Your a joke dude.

        • Chippaz

Watch him play you obviously haven’t. Scouts called him a young Jordan, but I’m not going to go that far. You never know but he has the potential.

        • Daryl Peek

Have your different opinion if you may but it does not mean you’re being realistic. No one knows or can tell the future. GO LAKERS is all that matters

Hey, DP. Tell me if I am wrong about how the CBA works. It is my understanding that if a team is under the cap at least one of the last 3 years, they can go over for the next two years, they just have to pay penalty taxes and repeater taxes. If they are not back under the cap again by the third year, they can’t get any free agents except through trades, in addition to paying all those penalties.

Is that right? Or can’t they pick up a free agent, ever, if they are over the cap?

So for the Lakers, I think they have to be under this year and then they can go over for the next two years, if they need too, while they sort it out. Can they do that?

            And don’t gimme no shit…:-)

There is no way in hell Lakers miss the playoffs next season with Kobe playing. Lakers trading pick for Love?

      • kinglaker

True that well have a descent team but about the trade for love I don’t think it’s wise love said that in 2015 wen he’s a free agent he wants to go with the lakers and so does kyrie Irving what else do we need I say we draft embiid or aaoron Gordon to have good wing players imagine in 2015
        SG:Bryant
        Pg:Irving
        Sf:wesly Johnson (or open)
        Pf: Kevin love
        C:embiid (draft pick)
Beast ass team if yu ask me

    • Chrmngblly

I fear that you are correct for once, Boss. One of the reasons they Lakers will have trouble trading with anyone is that they have nothing to trade. They have already traded all of their draft picks to get Howard and Nash—four 1st round draft picks and two second round picks.

    Touche Farmar, touche…

    • Zimmeredge

      nice french ;)

  • independentbynature

A coaching change is the first order of the business of getting the Lakers back on the winning track. You just can’t move forward persisting in this mindset that defense doesn’t matter.Antoni was a huge mistake. The sooner it is acknowledged and corrected, the sooner things will change.Showtime never involved ignoring defense.

    • Chrmngblly

      Touché independent, touché….

  • Ellis

If the Lakers keep Mike D’Antoni get ready for more and more serious tanking.Tanking is not a one year thing unless you are San Antonio drafting Tim Duncan.Lakers are a big mess that will take years of losing to fix up.SMFH!

  • Ellis

GTFO the Lakers are not a bad franchise just a rebuilding and yes losing seasons are necessary to rebuild through the draft and to save money in the process to spend on Superstars in the future. No shame in losing go Lakers!Keep Tanking!

  • Trump Palace

Most us Lakers fans don’t want to accept the fact we are fucking rebuilding. What bullshit it’s time to admit we are goinjg to be rebuilding and losing is present and 25-53 proves that. The future of the Lakers looks like that of the Raiders losses and more losses no playoffs and more no playoffs.Misery is a money maker.

I hope the Lakers can turn it around of course if i was the OWNER and GM i would fire Mike D’Antoni plus his whole crappy staff and hire either John Calipari or Kevin Ollie and then i would hire Darren Erman and Lionel Hollins as the assistant coaches along with Hakeem Olajuwon as the big man coach. Then i would hire Curtis Bostic from Cincy as the strength and conditioning coach.

I would fire Gary Vitti and Seto from the medical staff.I would hire a top notch sports medical staff Aaron Nelson and Joe Proski would be the main 2 guys on the training staff.I would put Kobe Bryant in serious training and i would be mad as hell that he got paid so damn much bad move by the Lakers owner he is a legend granted i agree he is the best ever IMO but he is 36 years old coming off the worst injury in sports and he still hasn’t recovered from both his knee or Achilles injury just gotta hope for the best.I would use Magic Johnson and John Calipari as my free agent recruiters and i would target LeBron James in 2014,Kevin Love or Aldridge in 2015,Kevin Durant in 2016.Draft i would pick Andrew Wiggins or Joel Embiid if given the chance.I would waive Steve Nash no place for him on the NBA as a player.I would not at all re-sign Pau Gasol he needs to leave.

I would only bring back Jordan Hill and Jodie Meeks and Kent Bazemore that’s it.No Swaggy P sorry. Then i would sign all the veteran role players that have playoffs and championship experience. That’s what i would do if i was the Owner GM of the Lakers.I would let you guys and gals know what my intentions were no secrets i would do what Daryl Morey and Les Alexander did in Houston with Dwight and Harden i would make it clear money in the bank we are getting all the big time players.Direction is a assurance to the fans, clearly saying hey fans this what we are planning to do ride support us.We promise to deliver.

  • Trump Palace

    Winning is everything in life.

  • kinglakers

Lakers will have Kobe at 100% health not saying monster #8 Kobe but a healthy threating Kobe well have a high draft pick (exum,Gordon) and get descent free agents that can make a playoff contending team but we do need a new coach but it’s considered
    Rebuilding
