Lakers News: Jordan Farmar Agrees To Two-Year Deal With Clippers

Share on FacebookTweet about this on Twitter

While the Los Angeles Lakers continue to await the word on whether Carmelo Anthony or LeBron James could join the team next year, some of their best players from last season are moving on.

Jodie Meeks was the first to go joining the Detroit Pistons, then Chris Kaman agreed to a deal with the Portland Trail Blazers, and now Jordan Farmar has agreed to a two-year deal with the Los Angeles Clippers according to Yahoo! Sports’ Marc Spears:

The deal will likely be for the bi-annual exception of $2.1 million per year. It makes sense for both sides as Farmar wanted to remain in Los Angeles, while the Clippers needed a back-up point guard after losing Darren Collison to the Sacramento Kings.

Despite dealing with some injuries last year, Farmar enjoyed an excellent season for the Lakers. He consistently spoke about wanting to return to the team, but as the summer went forward, it became unlikely that he would be back.

The Lakers still have Steve Nash under contract and while he can’t be relied upon, the team will likely bring back Kendall Marshall, who will cost the team less than $1 million. In addition, the Lakers drafted Jordan Clarkson, who can also play point guard.

It will undoubtedly hurt fans to see Farmar leave, especially to the rival Clippers, but with the team focused on the big names, it allows other teams to talk to the role players.

Farmar enjoyed one of his best seasons as a professional last year, averaging 10 points and five assists while shooting just under 44 percent from 3-point range.

So I guess my Thomas-Farmar-Clarkson PG team has gone to shit

    • VillainKing

we can have a very good PG Deande Kane!!

      • Brandon A. Benitez

I know guards nowadays play both positions but is he listed as a shooting guard or PG? And what’s his style of playing I’ve never seen him ball before

        • http://WWW.LakersNation.com Kïd Špłãšh

He’s listed as a Pg, he’s 25&he is athletic, drives to the rim often, average 3pt shooter, solid passer, team player , similar to Xavier Henry but a point guard. He’s also a good defender

          • Brandon A. Benitez

Same question I ask Villain King what are his faults?

        • VillainKing

Kid Splash explain it all, why Deandre Kane is a very good PG and totally fit for the Lakers..

          • Brandon A. Benitez

I saw his highlight vid and I’m impressed he’s athletic as a mf but what are his faults? Clearly he has to have some

          • VillainKing

His age is the problem..25 years old, his not too young to become an NBA prospect buddy..

          • nlruizjr

I’ve never seen him play either but would be interested in him to join the Lakers, the only concern is that he’s already 25 and does not have any NBA experience, what he did outside the NBA may not translate to the NBA because the competition would be an upgrade but like a lot of us, I would hope he surprises a lot of us with his physical and mental game. how big is he? and I would hope he would complement clarkson and/or thomas, if selected. I sure hated to see Farmar go but I can’t blame him, I think the writing was on the wall for him.

          • VillainKing

Lets hope he will step-up for the Lakers he had all the potential and physical tools to become a great NBA point guard..

Buddy I saw Deandre Kane match up with Marcus Smart and he out played Smart in their games..I think Kane will become a great PG for the Lakers..

          • nlruizjr

sounds great !!!!!!!!, let’s hope so.

          • borsalino12

ViKi, is he better than your lover Marcus Smart?
Where and how many times have you seen DeAndre play ?
We don’t need any more garbage on this team. We need to add PG’s like E.Bledsoe or Isaiah Thomas (If possible).

          • VillainKing

The gay borsalino is here again..I really thought that you are dead..heheheh…your lover E. Bledsoe is not coming in the Lakers also I. Thomas…heheheh

    • Just Do It

Rookie Sensation Jordan Clarkson>>>>>>>>>>>>Traitor Jordan Farmar

    • borsalino12

Isaiah is not coming to L.A. Farmar is gone.We have Nash and Marshall, both of whom are good fit for the D-Fenders.J.Clarkson may turn out to be a serviceable PG, but at this point he is too rough for NBA. The best option for the Lakers is to go all the way for Eric Bledsoe and Chandler Parsons. Carmelo and LeBron are not coming, so we need to stop talking and writing about them. We need to start the rebuilding right a way and make this team a lot more attractive for the next year’s free agents. There is another very good class of FA’s in 2016, so we can upgrade the roster NOW.

      • VillainKing

Marshall what the fuck are you talking borsalino bitch?????????and Eric Bledsoe will not coming here in L.A.!!!!!sorry Borsalino!!

        • borsalino12

Dude. You need to learn some English, before posting here. You are not able to read and understand what the other say. I don’t like K.Marshall and St.Nash, that is why, I am sending them to the D-League.
“E.Bledsoe WILL NOT coming here in L.A.”
In French, they call people like you GALFON. In Spanish, they say – PENDEJO. And in any other language, that same word is IDIOT. That is what you are WillianKIng. Natural, born idiot. The right sentence would be: “E.Bledsoe is not coming to L.A.” Understand, you little boy-bitch?

          • VillainKing

Hey bitch, name Borsalino your the natural born idiot here your a GALFON and PENDEJO..your describing your own self saying that words..heheheheh..FUCK YOU BORSALINO!!!!!!!!

  • disqus_egRMWz4UBg

Was really hoping to re-sign farmer; youngish, can keep up with the fast pg, has a decent shot, and is a true pg. I hope we do get carmelo. We also need a defensiveinded center or pg. If we re-sign gasol, Kendall marshall cannot be our pg. Without any d at the one or five, every decent of would have a career night against us like last. Both gasol and marshall on the floor produced atrocious defense.

    • A Fan

seems like they’re seriously planning to have a Marshall-Nash-Clarkson-Kane committee at the backup PG spot. Not sure how I’d feel about this though. I think if Melo doesn’t come to LA, we’re seriously screwed for the 2015 season

  • Daniel

If we sign Melo o LBJ Nash is gone, they have to make room to get more players. One way or another, the Lakers will get a solid PG, get Marshall as a back up and have Clarkson as a third just to develop him. We can not rely on Nash, if he goes down, that means we would have Marshall as the main PG for the rest of the season, no way!

    • nlruizjr

IMO, Marshall is the one that should have been on the bubble, not Farmar !!

  • Lakers Fan

The Clippers are some bums lol. They always stealing our players. I was hoping for a Thomas/Clarkson/Farmar trio. I have no idea why the Lakers still have Marshall(or Nash for that matter) on the roster. Dude is garbage. I PRAY Clarkson beat him out as our backup PG. I can’t take watching him shoot another one of those ugly shots or getting blown by by an opposing PG.

    • Veneno

      Ditto Marshall gotta go,

      • Al Haldie

First of all we need to start getting players befor we get rid of some..

        • borsalino12

NO. Mitch wants to open as much cap space, as is possible to land both Carmelo and LeBron, but will get only my middle finger.Nothing else.

    • Mario Alfaro

He’s problem was when he was open he wouldn’t shoot he would rather pass the ball he needs confident to shoot.

      • PlayerHaters

thats true. he did hesitate to shoot at times but there were also times when he was open AND HE STILL MISSED smh
the dude can pass aint no one that can deny that but he has so many weaknesses that they overshadow his strengths

    • Truth B Told

Do not blame the Clippers….Doc is smart….You leave one of your good assests unprotected… This is a business…..Chess not Checkers.

      • Lakers Fan

Believe me. I know. The Lakers will miss Farmar. He was the only PG to give up scoring and defense. I wish they would have locked him up sooner rather than wait til Melo or LeBron make a decision. If Melo don’t come to the Lakers and we don’t sign any good players in free agency, we will be garbage(AGAIN) next year.

    • jim2

The Lakers will be worse this year than last do to amateur management. They will wait around until any good Laker role players are all gone and all FA’s from other teams are gone. Jimmy Buss should hire Jerry West to train and help him. Once Kobe and his bizarre contract and Nash are gone the Lakers can rebuild but not before then.

      • Lakers Fan

They better hope Melo picks the Lakers. If not, we’re screwed.

    • KobeBean

Kendal does work I think he should START. He struggles with shooting but has improved on that and he is the purest pg in the league right now. Next Jason Kidd IMO if he works on defense.

  • BULL

happy you are staying in L.A ..sad its not with the Lakers.. but glad.. thanks Farmar

    • Jim213

Agree, wish Farmar success in his career and for trying to hold the fort down this past season. At least he remains close to his family.

      • nlruizjr

Farmar > Marshall. Mitch will regret this move !!

  • Robert Perez

Damn.. I was hoping he would stay in L.A. and play for Lakers NOT the Flippers!

  • WAYNER

There are still other PG in Free Agency

Eric Bledsoe, Isaiah Thomas, Jameer Nelson, Kirk Hinrich, Mario Chalmers
Jordan Crawford, Steve Blake, Grieviez Vasquez

    • BULL

kiss most of them pgs goodbye if we get Melo

    • http://WWW.LakersNation.com Kïd Špłãšh

      Lol, Chalmers?

    • ML

Please choose Isaiah Thomas. I live in Sacramento. The boy is quick as hell and can ball–can shoot from anywhere on the floor and is vicious in the paint.

  • AK

disappointed in farmar for jumping ship so quick

    • BULL

he get too stay in L.A and make 2 mill a year … i wouldnt of wait for the Lakers neither.. good choice to sign right away .. never let another team dictate your future unless u have control .. he has a ring.. hes trying to get that mula

    • TheTruthKills

You expected him to wait forever? This is a business. He got his money and gets to stay in LA.

      • AK

its only the 6th day of free agency i dont see what the rush is and he could of got more if he didnt take the first deal thrown at him

        • nlruizjr

maybe, maybe not, there was no guarantee he was going to make the team, I think he did what he had to do !!

      • DKWTTY

Other bigger more talented players are waiting so who the hell does Farmar think he is? His statement was super bitter and full of butt hurt, as if the Lakers were going to pass up the chance of getting Melo for that clown.

    • Truth B Told

We all wish Farmer well…He truly wanted to be a Laker..but with no comittment on the Lakers behalf he had to make a decision….Plus no coach….Good move Jordan.I’m not mad at cha.

    • ogjuicyjay

The Lakers we’rent going to resign him & they probably let him know ahead of time.

      • AK

they would of they are waiting on this melo situation to see how much they could of offered him, whats the rush the off season is another 2 months he could of got a whole bigger deal if he holded out more than a week

        • kookiebuger

Not really the current cap is at (Kobe (23),Nash (10), Sacre (1), Clarkson (1), Randle (2-3), Marshall (1)) is 38 million, offering Melo a max which 20+ (I think 22-23 million) which leaves 3 million to sign other players (that would leave 3 million which would have probably gone to Nick Young, if he agrees to it probably can get 6 million like Meeks. I don’t like that he left but he probably wouldn’t have been offered 4.2 because of the injuries and the fact that the Lakers would have been over the cap and can only offer the mid level exception (if they use it on him) or the veteran minimum (1 million).

  • Badazztj12

I guess Marshall is the backup guard. Good because he can still develop but bad because we need to look a starting defensive pg

    • Just Do It

Not so fast about Kendall Marshall.People are sleeping on Jordan Clarkson man this dude is for real as in he is a starting point guard in the NBA in his first year.People have said something about his shot but at the draft combine shooting drills he lit it up and had high % shooting the ball. Also he had the 3rd best speed at the entire draft combine and he put up great numbers at Missouri and Tulsa he was a transfer from Tulsa. He is very athletic and long he has great ability to blow by his man with a ultra quick first step.Quickness and athleticism go a long way in the NBA and Jordan Clarkson has both attributes. He is a excellent passer and a leader floor general.Yes he is good at scoring and he gets rebounds for his position and size. All around player, does it all.His defensive instincts are very good.

  • James Lee

Clippers want all former Lakers; they had Caron, Odom, Vujacic, Turiaf, Barnes, now Farmar. No surprise if they signed Ariza or MWP.

Please Clippers take Steve Nash from us too.

    • Truth B Told

Yes Doc Rivers have been taken Laker players….I guess he’s trying to endear the Clippers to Lakers fans….No such Luck.

LMAO and look what happened they still couldnt make it to the West Finals

    • smokinggun42

Both Matt Barnes and Lamar Odom were members of the Clippers first. And what about Steve Blake, Chris Kaman, and Nick Young? All played for the Clippers before the Lakers. Many players switch teams both ways, likely because they can change teams without changing cities.

      • kekeke85

agreed with you. seems like everyone else are switching these two teams except kobe, cp, or blake griffin.

        • smokinggun42

Yeah and believe it or not Kobe actually met with the Clippers after Shaq left, I doubt he ever really considered it but it shows it’s an interesting option for everyone.

    • Rick Mathews

Not to mention Chris Paul was supposed to ours.

      • smokinggun42

He wasn’t supposed to be anything, NOLA was never gonna take aging players for their superstar, and the fact that the Lakers were gonna trade Lamar Odom really screwed up that guy’s life, so it serves them right. About time something went for the Clippers too with all the rotten luck they’ve had, so I think it’s about time to let it go bruh, lol.

        • Truth B Told

The deal was already agreed to……Never in NBA history had a deal been vetoed by a comissioner….Chris was headed to the Lakers and he was mad because the deal was vetoed by Stern….So CP3 was suppose to be a Laker.

  • Sti1lmatic

Can’t wait around for the free agency circus. Everyone has bills and mouths to feed.

  • TheZuluNation

Isaiah Thomas is looking a lot more likely now

  • Truth B Told

Teams are signing all the Lakers potential roll players….Farmer left good money on the table to comeback and play for the Lakers….Shame on the Lakers…Good for Farmer….Lakers FO need to know that this is a game of Chess…not Checkers….You have to have good roll players around your stars….Miami is a typical example and you see the fallout.

  • http://www.sportsblog.com/profile/Wytols Wytols

Since Thomas is interested in playing as a Laker,we should sign him.

  • LakerSpartan117

Well Farmar sounded very bitter about the Lakers decision not to resign sooner. Sucks that he’s gone but he can go, but of course he knows why the Lakers didn’t resign him. Bigger fish… and he’s injury prone and turnover prone

  • GOD Chri$$$ #Depressed
  • LakerSpartan117

Thank GOD for getting Clarkson and Kane!!! Can’t wait for Summer League

    • VillainKing

yeah buddy Kane and Clarkson is the real deal..heheheh!!

      • LakerSpartan117

I believe in them, both can play defense and pass the ball.

      • Zimmeredge

Mitch: clarkson? Ball handling point guard very good at getting inside. That reminds of farmar. Imo due to the fact jordy was injury prone we did not pay attention to him. If we want a vet then there is Thomas, Blake Nelson available.

        • VillainKing

Blake and Nelson sorry buddy don’t need them..

          • Zimmeredge

Blake is a good energy guy out of the bench and he is a good shooter as well.

          • VillainKing

There are both 30 years old above buddy another aging players at Pg to pair with old man Steve Nash..NOOOOOOOO!!

  • LakerSpartan117

The picture in this article makes it look like Jordan Farmar punched Paul Pierce in the balls!!

  • borsalino12

One by one, all of the best FA’s from last year Lakers team will leave. And I don’t blame them. Mitch Kupchak and Jim Buss will spend the whole summer waiting for answer from Carmelo and LeBron and then, on a emergency call, they will fill the roster with undrafted free agents and NBA veterans, who nobody else wants. They have not yet signed someone as a head-coach.Which means only one. We are going to be a lottery team in the next 2 years and try to get some cheap talents from the draft.

    • PlayerHaters

So basically you want the Lakers to resign everyone from last year?? And what “best FA’s from last year Lakers team”??? The only ones that were worth focusing on were Jodie Meeks, Nick Young, and maybe Jordan Hill. I would add Chris Kaman too but after how he was treated last year it was obvious he wasnt coming back

      • kookiebuger

The Lakers had the best bench in the league, it wasn’t their fault that they team finished with the 6th worst record. Most of the Lakers issues last year was defense, rebounding, lacked a go to scorer, and a closer. Kobe would have fixed 2 out of the 4 issues but rebounding and defense is still an issue that Melo won’t fix.

        • Badazztj12

Randle and Gasol wil handle rebounding but we just need a good defensive pg ho can contain the West pg’s. By the way Melo is decent rebounder

          • kookiebuger

Melo played a good amount of minutes at the PF posititon so his numbers might be inflatted in that area, Gasol might not come back we still don’t who Melo will sign with. As of right now this Lakers team is Kobe,Nash,Sacre,Randle,Clarkson, and Marshall (about 38 million).

        • PlayerHaters

Lakers TEMPORARILY had the best bench in the league but they couldnt even maintain that. Most of the players that showed potential were perimeter players and theres no way Lakers would sign them all. Lets not forget that some of those players kept getting sidelined due to constant injuries. So why would the Lakers invest in the same players that are injury prone and risk dealing with the same predicament from last season?? Yeah we had a decent bench but most pieces are replaceable

          • kookiebuger

I mean I can say the same thing about Kobe, I’m pretty sure most of the injuries had to do with D’Antoni’s 7 second or less offensive scheme but whatever all I can say is good luck finding good bench players at the vet minimum.

          • PlayerHaters

Are you implying that the Lakers shouldnt have invested in Kobe?? I dont agree with the fat contract they offered him but did you honestly think he was going to leave the team and not retire as a Laker??? He’s going to continue to be the franchise player until the day he retires. You’re quick to assume that the Lakers won’t improve their roster from last season. That would only be a possibility if they actually signed Melo or LeBron, but even then just getting either one would attract more FAs

          • kookiebuger

I never said they shouldn’t have signed Kobe, I disagree with his contract if he wants that 6th ring. Melo and LeBron are long shots and since the Lakers offered Melo a max the most they can offer LeBron is like 5 million, if Melo signs it, getting Melo I doubt is enough to make the team contenders especially when the team is losing it’s bench.

          • PlayerHaters

umm i dont know where youre going with this…
your argument is different from what im trying to say
are you making a rebuttal or just elaborating on what i said??

      • borsalino12

Meeks, Young and J.Hill were the obvious best players last season. But, I would love to see some other too next one. Farmar, Bazemore,R.Kelly and maybe X.Henry.But, the way our FO is “working”, all of them will sign elsewhere. Gues who is the next! I will say, Jordan Hill.

    • Bruce

It’s just ridiculous to see Lakers FO playing the waiting game on the big 2 and stall the process of upgrading the roster and finding a head coach. We already lost Kaman, Meeks, Farmar, Kurt Rambis, maybe Jordan Hill, Nick Young is on it’s way out, all I’m seeing right now is we’re losing people left and right and no moves are being made by the Lakers. I really would love see all of you people’s reactions when Melo and Lebron resigns with their respective teams or elsewhere, then you’ll come back and say damn we should’ve know in the beginning it was not even close of bring in Melo or Lebron and damn look at all the other FAs we missed out on, and guess what? we will be in the lottery again next season and Kobe will retire a season early because he ain’t having it, he ain’t playing this game with Mitch and Jim Buss.

    • Ogjuicyjay

I never said Farmar was better than Melo, they play 2 different positions. I’m not cool with it because Farmar earned his spot again after coming back even tho he took less money and still played solid thru injuries last season. I personally wanted him back and felt he would still be an asset. But it looks like he made the decision to sign with the Clippers because he knew there wasn’t a solid guarantee the Lakers would sign him at least until the “big fish” were out the way & they probably wouldn’t have the $ he was looking for after. I

  • Derek Clark

Yeah this one hurts a little bit to see him go to THAT team. But whatever, f*ck em. Let em eat cake. Farmar should have had the sense to at least wait and see what went down with Melo in the next 24 hours, but whatever. It is what it is. Time to bring back Steve Blake.

  • DP

the lakers need to sign a pg like isiah thomas, trade nash and get marshall to be on the bench

  • abel

h aha lakers fan losers lol

    • DKWTTY

…Says the Rockets fan on a Lakers fansite. You have nothing better to do in life? Abel? You took an L from the start.

    • independentbynature

What’s the matter. No good news in Houston to read? Why don’t you go taunt the Blazers?Oh,that’s right. They would step on your neck the way they did your team.Sprockets are PRE-tenders,not contenders.

  • truth24

Lakers are done. Front Office can’t do anything right. What’s the point in pretending to not hire Byron Scott when honestly he’s not really the coach they want. Lakers are done!!!!!!

  • Matt Williams

He was injury prone anyway. It’s good to trim the fat. Get rid of the useless and get more productive guys. Keep Young, Gasol and Hill. Maybe X too. All the wack or weak players need to be replace.

  • independentbynature

Expect Hill and Bazemore to go next.Other teams are picking our bones while we wait.

    • http://www.foxhilldesign.com Josh

Hill will be gone soon, but I expect Bazemore back. He’s been talking to other teams, but I think he stays unless Charlotte gets serious about him.

  • LakerDev

I liked Farmar, hes better than Marshall and Nash. Teams continue to pluck our players and we havent signed anybody. And we still have no coach. What is the plan? They better hope Melo signs, or the FO will look like idiots and will not be able to spin it.

  • Swaggy C

The Clippers took the wrong guard from us. They should of picked up Marshall. Anyways…I hope this means we can pick up Isaiah Thomas soon.

    • independentbynature

That would give us Marshall,Nash and Thomas.Where’s the D ? The D would stand for Disaster, not Defense.

    • Badazztj12

Cant sign nobody that STILL has a contract with a team(Lakers) already

  • Daryl Peek

This kinda feels like losing Blake and Fisher, albeit Jordan is much younger. I cringe at letting players like that go as they embody Lakers through grit leadership and heart. At some point the FO has to understand it’s important to keep players like that as core cogs. Not happy at all about letting JF get scoped up by the Clips!!

On another note, I wouldn’t be surprised if Blake were actually brought back.

    • http://www.foxhilldesign.com Josh

I fully expect Blake to be the starting PG this season. Farmar is not starter material, and Marshall is good enough to be a backup (and is super cheap). There’s just no room in the rotation for Farmar. I was excited to see him come back, but the writing was on the wall when he said (correctly) in his exit interview that he is not a 3rd stringer.

  • Just Do It

Jordan Clarkson was my 2nd best available point guard in this draft and he was the 10th best prospect on my power rankings.Steal of the draft was Clarkson.

    1.Dante Exum
    2.Jordan Clarkson
    3.Marcus Smart
    4.Zach Lavine
    5.Elfrid Payton

    • Badazztj12

No way he was better than these pg’s. There is a reason why he dropped so low

  • Truth B Told

I have no idea why the Lakers are keeping Marshall….Farmer and Meeks are way better…..This FO scares me…..No FA’S are gonna come to a team with no supporting cast…..Melo is not coming to LA when NY have a better support system…..That’s Phil not making his fiance look bad in their search for Melo.Lakers need to start working on plan B…..Sure miss Jerry West.

    • http://www.foxhilldesign.com Josh

      $900k. 8.8 assists/game. 44.3% assist rate. 3.2 assist-to-turnover ratio. That’s why they’re keeping Marshall.
