Lakers News: Jeanie Buss Says She Takes Kobe Over Jordan

Jeanie BussYesterday, excerpts of Phil Jackson’s upcoming book Eleven Rings: The Soul of Success surfaced and most of the quotes pertained to the debate about who was better, Kobe or Michael Jordan.

Jackson compared the two NBA legends in terms of their defensive abilities, leadership, their personality, physique and ability to be clutch in key situations.

From his book, Phil clearly gave the nod to Jordan, but this afternoon his fiancee and Lakers executive vice president Jeanie Buss weighed in on the debate:

@philjackson11 Phil, in regards to Kobe vs. MJ – KOBE IS THE BEST. My humble opinion. @kobebryant#Lakers

— Jeanie Buss (@JeanieBuss) May 17, 2013

Earlier today, Phil said that he was blessed to coach both of the legends while Kobe wondered aloud on Twitter if Jordan’s perception would’ve been different if he played with a dominant player like Shaq.

It’s not surprising that Buss would tweet her support for Bryant as multiple media outlets have debated continued the Bryant vs. Jordan debate.

Jackson’s book is set to hit bookstores next week and it’ll be interesting to see what else he’s written on his book. Last night, Jackson made an appearance on “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno and stated his interest in a front-office position with an NBA organization.

When it come’s to clutch Kobe is the man to go too.

  • J.Murphy

All I know is that Michael Jordan Had someone before him,and his name was Julius Erving. We can debate all day long who was the best.Remember Connie Hawkins? Jordan’s exposure on t.v. and in endorsements gave him more hype than the others.

    • Paytc

      You are so right, J.Murphy.

Book sells are important enough for a coach to divide what was probably the two greatest players he ever coached? What some will do for money and ego never cease’s to amaze me.

      • Paytc

Jeanie you may want to cut Phil off for a while for that move?LoL… We all know you don’t need the revenue from his book sells! Kobe is still playing and writing his legacy so it’s not time for the comparison.Personally I don’t think they need to ever be compared.Kobe was right apples to oranges….different time and circumstances.

      TOTALLY AGREE!!! LUV KOBE

WE ARE ALL TAKING ABOUT WHAT IF’S. THE FACTS ARE WITH THE LACK OF COLLEGE BASKETBALL EXPERIENCE, A PLUS TO JORDAN. WITH THE BENCHING OF DEL HARRIS, ANOTHER PLUS TO JORDAN. PLAYING ALONG SHAQ, ANOTHER CONSIDERATION. KOBE NEVER GOT THE TUTELAGE AND LEADERSHIP EXPOSURE IN BASKETBALL THAT MJ GOT, BEING YOUNG, A LOT OF PEOPLE DOUBTED HIM… EVEN NOW! BECAUSE OF HIS ARROGANCE AND DESERVINGLY SO. BECAUSE HE WILL NOT KISS THE MEDIA’S ASS.. WHO ALMOST DESTROYED HIS YOUNG CONFIDENCE AFTER THE COLORADO FIASCO, BUT HE HAD PROVEN TIME AND TIME AGAIN THAT HIS NATURAL GIFT, ABILITY AND WILLINGNESS TO LEARN PUT HIM SIDE BY SIDE WITH MJ.

IN MY OPINION, THEY ARE THE BEST OF THE BEST OF THEIR RESPECTIVE GENERATIONS. THEY WILL BOTH KILL YOU WITH THEIR ABILITY TO TAKE OVER THE GAME AND FINISH WITH AUTHORITY. THEY BOTH HAVE THE RANGE, PENETRATIONS AND THE HEARTS OF THE CHAMPION THAT OPPONENTS CAN NOT AFFORD TO BLINK, OR THEY ARE GONE. THE LEAPING ABILITY TO DUNK OR BLOCK SHOTS. DEFENSIVE PROWESS TO TAKE THE OPPONENTS BEST OUT OF (RHYTHM) OF THE GAME. ON DEGREES OF DIFFICULT SHOTS AND ON 1on1, I WILL TAKE KOBE, THOUGH.

      You too are right!

Jordan best hands best on offense n will shut u down n defense, Jordan made every one on his team better n he never cried like Kobe does, if he didn’t retire so early just imagine how many championships etc, Kobe is a gewd player but will never be better than mj

    • http://twitter.com/dmodmodmo Doug Morgan

“Cried?” What are you talking about?

    • Paytc

Jordan never had to cry because after Magic’s sudden departure the league was so in need of someone to carry the NBA torch.MJ was the perfect guy.And one of the ways they made sure was an opponent couldn’t breathe on MJ without a foul being called.I think superstars of MJ and Kobe’s level deserve the benefit of a close call.MJ always got them, but Kobe doesn’t always get them and is considered a whiner by critics if he asks for them. But it’s good to see Kobe have to work that much harder.I’m sure when you have to struggle and earn it the final reward feels much greater.

      • Paytc

But I am not saying either MJ or Kobe is better. They are both examples of greatness on the basketball floor. There is no need to compare greatness. It would be like comparing two dimes. They both are tens.
