Along with Kobe Bryant, Mitch Kupchak, Jeanie and Jim Buss, three-time NBA champion James Worthy will be involved in the team’s pitch to Carmelo, according to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin:

With the odds not in the Lakers’ favor to land Carmelo, the team is pulling out all the stops in an effort to sell the perennial All-Star on the prospect of playing in Los Angeles.

Even though Magic Johnson won’t attend the meeting with the former face of the franchise on vacation in Italy, Worthy added to the mix may help matters for the Lakers.

he he ha ha where is lady ga ga?

If FOs done their homework they’d pitch – off the court business ventures other than basketball. One reason why Melo was interested at the start of this past season.

    • cyborgspider

Joel Silver, bigtime movie producer, was reported to be there and pitched Melo and wifey about those opportunities. Wonder if Houston had that… maybe a rodeo organizer or ranch handler LOL

        Mark Medina:

“according to a team source, the Lakers constructed a mocked up a Lakers uniform with the No.7 and Anthony’s name, his number he currently wears with the Knicks”

      Of course they have…

  • BULL

If yes great, welcome aboard, if no .. not the end of the world.. we keep our max deal, and there are still players out there.. from Isiah Thomas, Eric Bledsoe to Ariza and deng.. we have Kobe, Randal, if we can pull Bledsoe and bring Ariza/or Deng the team will look very good!

    • AC

If Melo doesn’t come, I want us to get Bledsoe and Ariza and then bring back the bench mob… not a bad team right there, especially with the right coach.

      • BULL

NOT AT ALL BUT SOMETHING IS TELLING ME MELO COMING..

        • cyborgspider

Ironic, your name is Bull, probably the team that gives the Lakers the most competition during this affair :)

The Lakers can offer Pau more than any other team

  • Bryant T. Jordan

The Lakers can EASILY offer Melo the MAX … but, if they do so, they will have nothing left to offer Pau and it will be the Kobe, Melo and Randle show and I’m not sure Melo will go for that.

However, if the Lakers TRADE Nash+Randle to a team that can absorb their cap space and throw in an unprotected #1, such as the 76′ers, Bucks, Magic, etc., the Lakers would have a solid $34.8mil to spend on (4) starters to play with Kobe … they could afford Melo AND Pau but would then need to start a minimum contract player at the “1″ and “5″ – think Kendall Marshall and a guy like Emeka Okafor … or they could forget Melo and sign the following foursome: Isaiah Thomas, Trevor Ariza, Pau Gasol and Spencer Hawes …interesting.

They’re not going to trade Randle.

      • Bryant T. Jordan

I imagine they have ALREADY OFFERED Nash and Randle to the Wolves for Love, and I have no doubt they would trade Randle if they felt it would help the team.

For example, what if Melo says he would rather play with Pau than Randle and also wants the max contract New York can give him … and the ONLY WAY that can happen is if the Lakers work a S&T with the Zen Master and the Knicks that includes Randle … I think they would do that in a heartbeat.

I seriously doubt that, Melo probably has maybe 5yrs. (your shot is first to go), Randle just starting out has maybe 15yrs and you wrote a book ?????

          • Bryant T. Jordan

I don’t personally disagree with you and actually predicted in the draft section of my book, which was written about 6 months ago that Randle would get drafted by the Lakers! I also LOVE Randle and think he will be a perennial all-star. HOWEVER, I have no doubt at all that the Lakers would trade Randle+Nash for Kevin Love in a heartbeat and that they want to “win NOW” if at all possible, which also means they would trade Randle for Melo if push came to shove.

I agree with you that Randle can give the Lakers more going forward than Melo, in that he can play many more years (and his first contract on the cheap), but you don’t “win now” with rookies, you do so with veterans and stars and therefore I have no doubt Mitch Kupchak and the Buss family would choose Melo over Randle 100% of the time.

Hi BJ, I think that may have been true before they realized what they have in their hands now, sure KLove is a double-double but so is Randle and Randle may turnout to be a beast offensively and defensively, we don’t know that for sure but the potential is there, whereas they already know that KLove is weak on defense and it doesn’t appear that he wants to improve in that area, plus KLove may have sent a signal that he will sign with anyone that is willing to get him out of Mem. Otherwise, I don’t think the Lakers would have drafted a PF if they still had KLove in mind, especially when Vonleh was still available, therefore to me it appears that they didn’t want to keep all their eggs in the KLove basket, just my opinion, btw what is your book about ???

          • Bryant T. Jordan

K-Love isn’t as poor on defense as many people assume … he had the same defensive win shares as Blake Griffin last year and works his tail off … he’s just not all that athletic … Randle is much more athletic but he’s a little short and will most likely have some problems on the defensive end as well, though he gives great effort.

Noah Vonleh is also a PF and actually projects to a “stretch four” and I believe the Lakers took Randle simply because he was the better player, period.

As for my book … I don’t mean to brag but I do believe it will blow your mind and is a masterpiece :-) Most authors wouldn’t even attempt such a book and most publishing companies can’t work on such an insane deadline … I couldn’t finish it until after the draft lottery on May 20th but needed it to be released before the actual draft just 36 days later.

You can find “Saving the Lakers: A Be the General Manager Book” on Amazon for a full description, so I will just say that I wrote it in a Choose Your Own Ending style but with 100% accurate league financials and the like. Basically the reader is the new GM of the Lakers and gets to draft, sign and trade players and attempt to win the 2014-15 NBA title. However, the book is extremely challenging and I don’t know even one reader who has been able to “beat the book” and win the title on their first read-through yet!

well that could be true, I generally don’t like to pass judgement at least until I see some sample of his game in the NBA, I’ve seen a sample of Klove and he doesn’t realy impress me on the defensive end, although he is really good on the offensive end but as you probably already know, shooting is the first thing to go, imo. Your book sounds challenging.

    • cyborgspider

Trading Randle to clear up cap space will be foolish, but there’s gotta be a team that just takes Nash off our hands so they can meet the minimum cap figure. I’m praying they do, anyway.

“Hey Philly, wanna take Nash off our hands? Don’t give us anything in return, maybe we’ll send you a 1st rounder in 2019 too or something. Let’s just say we’ll OWE you one, big time”

      • Bryant T. Jordan

That would indeed be the IDEAL scenario and I can see the Lakers offering Philly multiple future picks if they agree to take Nash off their hands …

Is somewhat of a good thing that Kobe can’t make it right away. That way once Melo finishes his meeting with the Knicks, Kobe will be able to give the last word so hopefully all goes as planned for the FO and Laker nation

  • Zimmeredge

OK, MAvs are out of the picture they just signed dirk for 3 years 30m.

  • BULL

its really between Knicks, and Lakers.. and Knicks want an commitment tonight.. this should be over soon for we can move fwrd with rebuilding this team

  • rival almighty

Or a short one if teams keep signing players and we’re not

  • TheTruthKills

What I like most about this story is that the Lakers family is still strong. Even players are down for life.

  • Jan Rey

I have a feeling Melo will choose the Lakers. D-Rose will always be the man with the Bulls, same with Dwight and James Harden with the Rockets because they’re younger than him. With the Lakers, before Melo finishes four years, Kobe will be gone, and the franchise will be his.
