Lakers News: Elias Harris Released By Lakers

Elias HarrisThe Los Angeles Lakers have waived forward Elias Harris, the Lakers announced today, which brings the total count on the roster down to 14.

The Lakers signed Harris over the off-season, and the rookie out of Gonzaga appeared in just two games. It was not expected that Harris would get  minutes off the bench for the Lakers and his stint in Los Angeles has finally come to an end.

Harris is an athletic and explosive forward and it won’t be surprising if he ends up with another team. The Lakers are already quite deep in the bench and with Kobe Bryant expected to return soon, there was no room to add in minutes for Harris.

im confuse by this move. it wasnt like he didnt do well in his only d league game. i guess if not sign lakers could bring him back to the dfenders and im guessing they want the open spot in case they want to sign someone or a trade

      Like LO.

naw base on a tweet i saw the move was more for money reasons and a not a sign they will add a player

Jeremy, that’s ridiculous, for money reasons for a rookie player, really that doesn’t even make sense !!!!!!

  • LakersHeatBeef

Things like this happen all the time in the NBA tbh,Rookie player gets cut.

  • Jim213

Didn’t capitalize on his opportunity though he’ll get another opportunity down the line.

      In Asia….

IMO, either in D league for another team or Europe (German decent).

I saw more upside in Harris than I do in Kelly, Kelly is so one-dimentional it’s pathetic at least Harris a game in the paint and was a defense player, Kelly and the word defense just don’t go together.

      • Daryl Peek

You must not have watched Kelly at Duke. The Blue Devils were a far better defensive team with Kelly on the floor and I vividly remember Kelly moving his feet very well in the preseason as he took a charge pressing full court.

Kelly is much more than just a stretch 4 also. He didn’t even make a three point shot in his defender debut. All his points were in the paint or mid range.

Kelly was a first round pick if not for his injury.

        • nlruizjr

what game did you see where Kelly made any kind of presence, he missed most of his 3pt. shots, turned over the ball several times, was not a factor inside the paint, where as Harris helped out on defense, help out with rebounding and made several mid-range shots, in other words he helped the Lakers alot more than Kelly, in fact kelly did less than Marcus Landry and here the Lakers let 2 players go who had more potential than Kelly, just because he’s from Duke doesn’t mean he automatically a proven player because he hasn’t shown anything.

          • Daryl Peek

Neither had a big enough sample size of PT to fairly make that distinction. Especially Kelly. Kelly didn’t play til the China trip and he looked good against GS on both sides of the court in his brief stint. The FO and MDA saw fit to keep Kelly over Harris. There’s a reason for that.

I think this is a precursor to a trade later on down the line…

    • Zimmeredge

If i was Chris Kaman I would be worry for my spot.
