Lakers News: Dwight Howard Admitted He Asked Lakers For Phil Jackson

When Dwight Howard spoke to reporters for the first time following his Houston decision, he mentioned several things that supposedly led to his decision. While he said that he ultimately chose the Rockets over the Lakers because he felt they were his best opportunity to win the championship, he also was asked about the ever-looming Phil Jackson, and if that would have had an impact on his final decision.

According to Alex Kennedy of HoopsWorld, Howard admitted that he asked the Lakers to hire Phil Jackson “earlier in the season.”

There were plenty of assumptions that Howard wanted Mike D’Antoni out of the picture if he was to return to L.A., but getting Dwight to actually admit it is a tad surprising.

Then again, this is the guy that’s burned nearly every bridge he’s ever walked on so I guess it’s not entirely shocking.

Where the Lakers go from here is yet to be seen, but for now, the war of words between the Lakers and Dwight will likely commence.

Too bad the Lakers can’t trade Jim Buss and Mitch Kupchak before they ruin whatever is left of Lakers Legacy. They both seem clueless right now.

    • d

no no just jim buss , mitch is a genius

      • Kristofer Kevin Torres

Agreed with u, mitch is genius, waive jim buss ,

      • Jim213

Disagree, Jim BUST is CLUELESS however that’s what the GM is there for to pitch the best possible scenario’s, M KUPCAKE couldn’t sell girlscout cookies aside from coming up with the best scenarios for the team which shouldn’t have involved Dwight and D’Antoni…

The Lakers know what they are doing.. Screw Dwight

  • Neal

why trade Jim and Mitch, just waive then to create more cap space lol.
Then the Lakers could move Jeanie and Phil into these positions and all would be well in laker land

DH not a good post up player, and maybe never will be (would Olajuwon help?). He is not a ‘true’ big man like Wilt, Shaq, and even Bynum. He is more of a power forward playing center. May be good for Houston, but not for Lakers (at least, in D’Antoni’s offense). He is def. a good shot blocker, etc.

Anyway, maybe he was always mad at the Lakers for beating him in 2009, with “Kobe”, who knows what it’s like to be a champion. This is his revenge, but it’s ok. The NBA is running more ‘small ball’, and so the big man may be heading toward extinction anyway.

Lakers just need a few good shooters, and there are ‘more’ of them these days. We’ll be just fine.

Maybe Phil doesn’t want to coach anymore. Maybe, it’s time to move forward into the void and leave “home.” You have to grow up at some point. Running back to Phil every time you hit a bump is not going to move you forward. If you live in the past, you will die in the future! I say, jump into the void, make a new, bright future. The Lakers are not Phil Jackson. They won with Pat Riley…remember him? D’antoni may not be the answer right now, but maybe there is a greatness out there besides Phil.

for once i agree with dwight howard, as much as i disliked his flip floping, the only two people to blame for this shit are Jim Buss, and Mike D’antoni. jim buss does not give a shit about anyone but his own damn greedy self and mike sat in their entire meetings without even trying to say a word, so as much as i would have loved for howard to have stayed with los angeles, i dont blame him at all.
