Both are likely to play on the Lakers’ Summer League team in Las Vegas and the Lakers are already getting their team together, including a couple of players who probably expected to be drafted. One of those is Iowa State guard DeAndre Kane, according to SNY’s Adam Zagoria:

Kane is a strong combo guard from Iowa State who averaged about 17 points, seven rebounds, and six assists last season for the Cyclones. He is considered one of the best players who went undrafted.

Another one of those top guys is Ohio State wing player LaQuinton Ross, one of the best pure scorers in the draft. Ross will also wear the purple and gold in Las Vegas according to Bob Baptist of the Columbus Dispatch:

The Lakers are hoping to find a rotation player within the summer league. Many good players have gone undrafted such as Udonis Haslem, Ben Wallace, Wesley Matthews, and Jeremy Lin.

Just last year, the Lakers offered Elias Harris a contract based on his summer league play. Ross and Kane have to be hoping for the same outcome.

DeAndre Kane is a excellent player reminds me of Patrick Beverley.

    • incendy

Yeah, I like him. Based on what I have seen of Kane and Clarkson I think Kane would beat him our for a spot.

      • Terrence

Not sure how they would go about it but nobody can find a more NBA ready point guard than 25 years old DeAndre Kane Yes this is Patrick Beverley type player a old rookie that gets rotation minutes.DeAndre Kane crapped all over Marcus Smart everytime they played eachother.DeAndre Kane was one of my favorite Guards to watch in the NCAA he is a winner a tough minded pest that will never backdown and he is good at everything.NBA ready.

        • Chrmngblly

We can all find guys on the sidewalk better than Kane. He is not smart. Give us a break.

      • Billy

Patric Yound is wanted by the Lakers he is able to take over the Jordan Hill energy guy role for 10% of the money Jordan Hill makes the only major difference between the two is Patric Young is a great pick and roll defender and Jordan Hill gets lost easily on pick and roll defense.Patric Young sets hard picks on offense and he makes most his shots on the inside.Patric Young is a winner and he is the ultimate team player the glue guy a tough customer.

        • incendy

I like Young but I think he is playing for the Pelicans in Summer League play

          • Sarunas

Artem Klimenko 7’1 player from overseas went undrafted the big Russian is a better version of Timovey Mozgov.Lakers must sign a legit young center as this Artem is now ready.

          • comrade24

i thought he was playing on our summer league team?

          • Billy

            Alex Kennedy ‏@AlexKennedyNBA
The one you’ve all been waiting for: Patric Young will be playing with the New Orleans Pelicans’ summer league roster

          • Billy

Now it’s over forget it man the rest of the undrafted players are not worth a taxi fair from El Segundo to Beverley Hills.

          • Billy

Taxi Fare that was a jab at C.J. Fair lol.

      • Mario

        Jordan Bachynski

      • Malcolm

WTF?What ya’ll mean DeAndre Kane is on the Lakers?I don’t follow the draft i just assumed he would get picked in the first round.Damn how stupid are the NBA GM’s?????Lakers got lucky with this situation i just assumed he would be drafted and how did the Lakers get Jordan Clarkson they only had 1 draft pick i think in the lottery?Lakers got Julius Randle i assume he will be great. Now Randle was the lottery pick i am sure but how Lakers got DeAndre Kane and Jordan Clarkson they should have been drafted in round 1.SMFH

        • comrade24

they bought a 2nd round pick and drafted Clarkson. Kane went undrafted. i couldn’t believe it either. I think Kane is NBA ready. He’s 25, so there won’t be any maturity issues. he’s ready to go!

  • Barry

James McAdoo is a good forward that was once projected as a lottery pick and Patric Young is a excellent low post defender and he has a high motor worth the invite as he is a high energy bench player.

    • Jim213

Yeah, it seems so but being that he’s been outplayed by some lower ranking players in some pre-draft work outs (including Knicks) word got out an he likely fell out of the 60 otherwise he’d been picked up. But being he’s a Tarheel, Kupcake will possibly give him a shot.

  • Lance

Sign Patric Young without a doubt do it Lakers FO.Also check out you’re alumn James McAdoo his game is made for the NBA and the Lakers need him.Ross is a waste of a spot and DeAndre Kane is a good NBA role player from day 1.

  • jeremy

do the lakers want to build a decent but cheap team and go all out on a few players

    • Neil

Yes that’s the pan. They want to have Kobe+1 or 2 max free agents with Julius Randle and Jordan Clarekson possibly starting. But they also want to have some excellent cheap contracted players like DeAndre Kane.

      • jeremy

i see that at least they have a plan and not like last year where it seem they just sign anyone for cheap.

        • Neil

Yes the Lakers FO actually has a plan this season. It seems like they are swinging for the grandslam homerun by recruiting LeBron and Carmelo to join Kobe. They might be thinking to do this.DeAndre is a hidden gem and 25 years old he is a full grown man as a rookie.Should have been drafted by the Spurs is what many are saying.

          PG Jordan Clarkson+DeAndre Kane
          SG Kobe Bryant+Kent Bazemore
          SF LeBron James+Xavier Henry
          PF Julius Randle+Ryan Kelly
          C Marcin Gortat+Robert Sacre

Mid Level Exception and Trade Exception can also be used.

Coach will be hand picked by the top players.

That’s their plan and it might include Carmelo but IDK.

          • jeremy

from what i saw it seem like marshall going to stay. since mitch talk like he had 6 players

          • Neil

What did you see regarding Kendall Marshall?

          • jeremy

i dont remember what post it was but it said the lakers are keep marshall using his team option.

          • Neil

They might trade him for some assets like a second round pick or attach him along with Steve Nash in a trade.

          • jeremy

if they were going to do that they should of done it last night. i would of love to see them get a 3rd pick

          • Neil

Kendall Marshall has no place being on a championship NBA team he is too slow and a terrible defender.I swear he never guards anyone i mean he doesn’t even act like he is guarding someone his back is turned while the opponent is wide open creating any play they want since their is no defense from Kendall Marshall yea that’s horrible defense.

Ya he really is not that good of a shooter or scorer he has the slowest set shot i have ever seen.Their was a place for Kendall Marshall on the MDA team but on a real team that has no gimmicks and is a championship team forget it.A tanking team Marshall is perfect a tanker. Both those rookie Clarkson and Kane are better than Marshall.

          • jeremy

yea marshall can be a good player if he just improve his shot. he can be the best passer in the world but that wont mean anything if he cant shot to save his life

          • Neil

Oh he is a great passer maybe the best passer in the NBA.But all his weaknesses are too overwhelming to use him in the rotation he is a 3rd string emergency point guard on a NBA team and the Spurs would have cut him long ago.

          • Al Haldie

Maybe if some one took time to teach d-fence on the lakers last yr some of these guys would be better this yr – but anyone can learn- give the kid a break – he did a good job last yr with out knowing anything about the real LAKERS…

          • nlruizjr

He has no heart, failed to help out a fellow laker (Swaggy) when he was down facing a 5-1 odds, he just turned around and walked the other way !!!!!

          • Chrmngblly

What I liked about him other than his passing is the guy had the sense to quit shooting….:-) Seriously. He shot just shy of 37% of his 3-balls—not that bad. Started floating little teardrops from both elbows. With a team full of gunners, that was the right thing to do.

If he can learn team defense, I want him to stick around. He is a different, unusual kind of player—but so is Nash. I want to see if he learns and grows.

Give the guy a break. He stepped in when we had no one else and even though Richard and DP tried to put the hex on him, he put up near double-doubles for two critical weeks for us. He deserves a fair shot with a real coach and training camp.

We don’t need any more gunners

          • Jim213

Clarkson will show more than Marshall (all around). Don’t see Marshall here past next season! :P

          • Chrmngblly

I am all for it, if it happens. So far, though, Marshall is a lot more like a young Nash than a young Westbrook. Is that bad? Let’s just not be too quick to throw the baby out with the bath. We have Farmar, still, too.

          • TheZuluNation

You think Clarkson will be the starter tho?

        • Tune

They did have a plan last season, not rush things and create cap space by only having a few people signed. It gives more room to do something.

    • Neil

      Yes plan.

  • Paulie Laker

Steal of the draft along with Randle, now i just want them to pick up Sim Bhuller as a FA! (along with melo, lebron and lowry perhaps?!

    • jeremy

is he any good since the last guy that tall not name yao wasnt that good

    • jeremy

what i see about him he singing with the kings

    • http://rantsofascorpio.wordpress.com/ Evan

No way the Lakers can afford all three. Two of the three is still a stretch.

      • Paulie Laker

don’t forget the way we got karl malone and gary payton for a year with kobe, shaq, etc….this would just be a mini version of this financially, a title run for years and 12 mil worth more than 19 without…

        • kookiebuger

The Lakers are already paying around 36 million in cap space for Kobe (23 million), Nash (10 million), Sacre (1 million), and Randle (like 2-3 million). Why would LeBron, Melo, and Lowry join the Lakers for basically 9-12 million?

          • Paulie Laker

get rid of nash via package of him and sign and trade of marshon brooks(keep the other part of the blake trade) and that saves 10mil.

          • TheZuluNation

I could see Lowry joining the Lakers tho. There’s not many PG’s to choose from and next offseason none of those PG’s are likely to leave their teams except maybe Rondo who could get traded this summer actually. 2016 the PG market is super thin.

        • http://rantsofascorpio.wordpress.com/ Evan

Malone made 1.5 mil that season, and Payton made about 5 mil. Combined with Shaq (26mil) and Kobe (14 mil), that’s not nearly the same thing as signing Melo for the max and throwing LBJ something most likely over 15 mil.

That wouldn’t be mini version. Those four contracts could run 20+ million more than the four contracts from 2004.

          • cj

the cap is also up from 45m that season.

        • TheZuluNation

You also gotta remember that back then the CBA was much more flexible. Now, not so much. You gotta depend on draft picks more these days.

  • jeremy

another rookie you can add is Roscoe Smith according to bleacher report lakers sign him

  • LAK3R4LIF3

    D. Kane & Patrick Young…..SIGN both of them Outright.

    • Kyle

Yeah their no messing around right now these guys are NBA ready guys they can contribute to a contender right away. This is a rare opportunity to find guys this good at being championship level role players as undrafted rookies. This draft was so deep and loaded from top to bottom they could have used 4 rounds.Patric Young is a must IMO,he is a low post defender a pick and roll screen stopper.Yes a talented big guy.Should have been drafted.Same goes for DeAndre Kane is a good player and worth signing.

  • Aaron

    Sam Amico @SamAmicoFSOFollow
Perhaps biggest shocker of undrafted guys: ex-Florida big man Patric Young. Rockets said to be highly interested, unclear if deal reached.
    9:42 PM – 26 Jun 2014

  • Aaron

The biggest advantage of the Lakers getting Patric Young to commit is to use Julius Randle as the recruiter as they both battled in the SEC against one another and they can ask Patric Young to be his competition in practice it makes perfect sense. Also we need a center still since Robert Sacre leaves a lot to be desired.Patric Young and Julius Randle now that’s a great combo.Big boys.

  • Aaron

This would be the best undrafted player the Lakers ever signed right after a draft if they get Patric Young.

    • Paulie Laker

Si Bhuller, two words. 7 foot 5 and can run some, prob a better shot blocker than Mark Eaton……

  • The New Marty Blake

James Michael McAdoo, North Carolina:JaKarr Sampson, St. John’s: Khem Birch, UNLV: Chane Behanan, Louisville/Colorado State:
Jahii Carson, Arizona State: Jabari Brown, Missouri: Eric Moreland, Oregon State: Patric Young,Florida

These are my top guys floating around without a NBA team a day after the draft.

  • Billy

C.J. Fair goes undrafted in 2014 NBA Draft despite leading Syracuse basketball team in scoring

The highest rated undrafted player is he worth the taxi fare lol?Wing player that plays harder than Wes Johnson.

  • kookiebuger

The Lakers should invite Khem Birch (averaged 11.5 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 3.8 bpg)

    • The New Marty Blake

Khem Birch would be a good summer league addition to the Lakers team.My thinking is the Lakers are trying to discover a point guard this summer since they have had so many problems with point guards since Derek Fisher left they basically want a young point guard to lead the way and DeAndre Kane is their big invite after last night actually a good wing player is C.J. Fair they might like him as he is a Dorrell Wright type player with a bigger motor and more hustle.

The Lakers FO must be ecstatic they got Jordan Clarkson in the second round for cash that was a steal of the second round as Jordan Clarkson is a terrific big point guard and he trained with the same trainer Michael Carter-Williams and Noah Vonleh have and he was very complimentary towards Jordan Clarkson he thinks in a short time he will be a outstanding player in the NBA i agree he will be excellent.Lakers had a A+ draft Randle is a stud.

  • Kb24

Swap marshall for jerami grant, has the potential to be a kawhi or josh smith type of guy

  • Collis

I’m from Huntington (Marshall University ) were Kane played for 3 years ! When he wants to play he can be the best player on the court at times !

    PER B/R Best Undrafted Players

  • VillainKing

I saw DeAndre Kane play basketball he is an excellent player..

  • VillainKing

next move for the Lakers is getting Patrick Young!!!!

    • Reggie

He is with the Pelicans they got him.Time to sign Pac 12 big man Jordan Bachynski 7’2 monster that will be good if given a chance think of a Birdman or Splitter type player.Yes he is underrated i watched all his games against USC and UCLA and i hated him he used to kick our ass down low and out rebound our big men and just a big problem for USC and UCLA.He is NBA ready.Watch his videos if you want.

      • VillainKing

If that is the news the Lakers is to late in Patrick Young..

        • Reggie

Yup he is already a very happy member of the Pelicans and he will be the enforcer for Anthony Davis that way nobody fucks with Anthony Davis he will be the Ben Wallace of the Pelicans the tough guy contest battler on the boards and on defense and a glue guy that protects the paint.

          • VillainKing

Yeah Pelicans got a good player but the Lakers got also DeAndre Kane he will become a great player for the Lakers..

          • Reggie

DeAndre Kane is a tough dude and he got up on Marcus Smart and gave him trouble when they played.Tough dude much like Reggie Jackson of OKC.He is a Reggie Jackson clone watch the videos man identical to Reggie Jackson and about the same age both 25 years old.

          • VillainKing

I also saw that game DeAndre Kane vs Marcus Smart all I cay say both of them will become a great player in the NBA someday!!

          • Reggie

Marcus Smart is more of the sure thing man.DeAndre is a undrafted free agent that can get cut at anytime no guaranteed money. With Marcus Smart he is about to become a household name in the NBA.But DeAndre Kane has got to convince the Lakers brass he is no Lester Hudson as you know Hudson had a great Summer League but never got a Lakers camp invite.Things look great for Marcus Smart he is guaranteed a job with a guaranteed rookie deal and he has star potential.Clarkson is better than all those Point Guards man.Dude is unreal and so talented only Marcus Smart can mess with Clarkson not Kane.

          • VillainKing

I think Kane will become a productive player than Clarkson but who knows who will be the Lakers next PG man..

          • Reggie

Jordan Clarkson has guaranteed clout since Jim Buss paid $1.8 million cash to buy his rights from the Wizards.Kane will never get the treatment Jordan Clarkson gets at first he will have to earn it.Jordan Clarkson is by far the more talented player between the 2 players i watched a bunch of their games and hands down Clarkson is built for the NBA game and he has some star potential believe it or not he can be much like MCW or Magic Johnson.Big point Guard moves so effortlessly and has a great explosive first step to the hoop and makes passes without looking just like Magic Man.

Mitch Kupchak and Jim Buss were trying like hell to acquire him and they way overpaid by over 3 times the amount just to buy his draft rights the going price to buy a second round pick is usually 500 thousand dollars at most.Ya this dude Clarkson is special it was a major steal to get him in the second round most the mock drafts had him in the 20-25 range in round 1.

          • VillainKing

Ok..but for me Kane will be an important player for the Lakers than Clarkson..

          • Reggie

            Marcus Smart (6’4″, 220 lbs): 18 points, 5.9 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 51.4% FG, 29.9% 3pt

The Numbers Never Lie This Is Head To Head Stats. When They Played Eachother.

            DeAndre Kane (6’4″, 200 lbs): 17.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 48.3% FG, 39.8% 3pt

          • Reggie

            Game 1 (Kane): 26 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists, 2 TO
            Game 1 (Smart): 20 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 TO
            Game 2 (Kane): 27 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, 3 TO
            Game 2 (Smart): 27 points, 3 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 TO

Head To Head Numbers Marcus vs. DeAndre

          • VillainKing

            Nice match-up buddy!!

          • Reggie

Put it this way if DeAndre wasn’t 25 he would have been drafted in the first round like say he was only 19 he would have been a top 25 pick easily.

    • Mario

Hey man Jordan Bachynski is another Omer Asik.Lakers better sign him.

      • VillainKing

Ok man, and Patrick young is now in the Pelicans!!

  • Reggie

Jordan Bachynski 7’2 Center from ASU and he is a 11 PPG AND 8 Rebound guy also a great shot blocker and a space eater at center he is also decent on offense. This is the player i would be signing and Lakers need a big man like this.Pac 12 player that is NBA ready. He got overlooked and is underrated if he had played at UCLA he would have been a first round pick rated in 91-94 range by NBA Draft Net.Yes it’s because he played at ASU and got overlooked.Sign him ASAP.

  • Mario

Yes i agree we should sign Jordan Bachynski he averaged 4 block shots per game and he is 7’2 and healthy and big.Lets not be stupid and sign him i feel like he will get a Summer League deal by tonight from another rival team.Hurry up Mitch. You can’t teach size and that kind of big man that played in a tough conference hardly ever goes undrafted he is much better and bigger than Robert Sacre. That is for sure.Tons of untapped potential with Jordan Bachynski.

  • Mario

Lets not be stupid by missing out on Jordan Bachynski. We need rim protection.

  • VillainKing

DeAndre Kane will stay in the Lakers and help them to win another championship..

  • Darnell

Jordan Clarkson reminds me of MCW.

  • Hector

A fair comparison for Jordan Clarkson would be George Hill with a mix of young Brian Shaw.

  • Norm

Jordan Clarkson is another Penny Hardaway. You people didn’t know that yet?All these other comparisons are fine but he really is a Penny Hardaway clone.Watch them both play and you will see the resemblance right away.Great steal by Mitch.I like Jordan Clarkson better than Dante Exum since Clarkson proved what he can do for 3 years in the NCAA.Exum was picked high for no reason that should have been Jordan Clarkson getting drafted in the top 5.Next Penny.

  • rell

To be honest Clarkson isn’t good only thing he brings to the table is his height , Kane is good at everything .

  • ANTHONYinCALI

after watching both of these guys play college ball for a couple of years now I think they can contribute to the Lakers and we should sign them, especially Kane he may be old but dude is a BEAST
