Lakers News: D’Antoni Talks About Bryant’s Soreness After Practice

Mike D'Antoni 4The Los Angeles Lakers are getting ready to embark on a three-game road trip and hopefully climb up the Western Conference standings. The Lakers are hovering right around .500 and without Kobe Bryant this season, the team has surpassed expectations with their 6-7 record.

Bryant is on the verge of making his return and it appears as though the five-time champion will be back in the lineup in the coming weeks. Bryant tore his Achilles last April and the rehab process has gone very well. However, coach Mike D’Antoni still has no set timetable for his return.

The Lakers blog writes that D’Antoni is not worried about the recent soreness Bryant has been experiencing and does not see that delaying his return.

“(Bryant) will amp it up as much as he needs to,” coach Mike D’Antoni explained. “It’s not soreness of the Achilles, just general soreness. He hadn’t played since April and he went hard, and you just feel sore and sluggish. It’s a normal thing. He didn’t have to back off because of injury.”

At first, it was expected that Bryant would be back on the court in November, but it seems as though he will make his return in December. Nevertheless, Bryant’s presence in the lineup and in the locker room will work wonders for this squad.
