Lakers News: Chris Kaman Likes Mike D’Antoni’s Offensive System

One of the newest additions to the Lakers, Chris Kaman, talked about how he likes Mike D’Antoni’s offensive system. According to Mark Medina, Kaman talked about how he likes the fast paced style and consistent pick and roll style of basketball at his introductory press conference with the Lakers on Tuesday.

Kaman is heading into his 11th season in the NBA and has always been known as a pick-and-pop type of player who can hit the midrange jumper consistently. Playing alongside Steve Nash in Dantoni’s system can be exactly what Kaman needs to get back to the All-Star level that he was at not to long ago.

Kaman,31, was officially introduced by general manager Mitch Kupchak Tuesday afternoon in Los Angeles. With Dwight Howard departing for Houston, Kaman will most likely be seeing plenty of minutes at the center spot. Pau Gasol, for all intensive purposes, seems to be the starting center for now. However, Kaman can serve as a very serviceable big in Dantoni’s system.

Last season in 66 games with the Mavericks, Kaman averaged 10.5 points, and 56. rebounds. Kaman was an All-Star just three years ago in 2010 with the Clippers. Kaman has averaged 11.8 points, and 5.6 rebounds in 10 seasons, playing for the Clippers, Hornets, and Mavericks.

      Ha! Sounds like Moses Malone….

Just one more year with Dumbtoni that’s all…

Once he got a complete and healthy roster with his system in training the way he wants it, there will be no excuses not to make it to the top this time. No matter how much Little Jim likes him. Little Jim will be forced to send him packing with his brother Dan or Little Jim will find himself also in trouble, a “COUP” from his Siblings and the entire LAKERLAND will throw him out of the helm.

Agreed, with the acquisition of Kurt Rambis this is given more light given that he’ll likely be his sub or long term replacement.

        • hookedonnews

Kurt Rambis is unlikely to ever be the head coach of the Lakers. Take a look at his record with Minnesota. I hope he will be a great assistant, but don’t assume he’s there to take over for D’Antoni. If he’s fired, they will be looking for a top level coach, not someone like Rambis. With all the openings for head coaches this off-season, I didn’t see anyone interviewing Kurt Rambis.

          • Jim213

A coach who was under Phil?, like I said a SUB or Future coach. Although, I also believe that Kurt still needs more experience but given these times along with Jim Bust and M Kupcake he may get a shot. Which many also believe that it would be an improvement at the time…

          • hookedonnews

I don’t believe they will ever hire Rambis, but anything is possible. They didn’t hire Brian Shaw who was Phil’s assistant even though Kobe Bryant wanted him. They hired someone who had been to the Finals as a head coach (Mike Brown), admittedly not the best choice but someone who had been a head coach. This is the best job in the league. I just don’t believe they will hire someone who hasn’t been a head coach. Even if they would, I doubt that it would be Rambis. Could he be an interim coach for a few days or weeks if D’Antoni was fired? Sure, but that doesn’t mean he’s the head coach of the future. There are a lot of fans who think anyone would be an improvement, but that opinion is based on very little except emotion.

          • Jim213

The Phil factor may be why Brian was never given a chance but Jim Bust still believes in Dumbtoni. With regards to Rambis he’ll be hired as an assistant coach, though you’re probably stating as a head coach. I agree the position is one of the top but this person assumes a lot of responsibility and expectations top.

I don’t think anyone expects this team to win a championship this year. And Dr. Buss made the decision to hire D’Antoni, not his son. I don’t know how you think a coup is going to occur, but I’m pretty sure that’s not going to happen. He was put in that job by his father. I hope the Lakers have a great year, but I doubt that MDA will be fired for not winning a championship with the players that are on the team now. They are looking for 2014 to be able to acquire more players. No one would be happier than I if they did get to the Finals, and nothing is impossible. But to say that the coach will be fired if they don’t is a stretch. If they have a horrible year, that’s a possibility. But they are realistic enough to realize that a championship is a long shot.

I Hate to be knit-picky , but it’s for all “intents” and purposes…..

My question is whether all these new pick-up players will actually play in the first place under that stupid clown Dumbtoni and his 6-man rotation lol.

    • hookedonnews

I know I’m wasting my time here, but the short rotation was the result of injuries, a terrible bench, and the fact that they were fighting for their play-off lives for the entire second half of the season. They had to win every game. Your disrespect for D’Antoni is uncalled for. I don’t know what your coaching credentials are, but you try coaching a team under the same circumstances, and let’s see how you come out. MDA is a well-respected coach. He doesn’t deserve the flack he’s gotten this season.
