Lakers News: Chris Duhon Wants Role on Lakers Roster

By | September 25, 2012|

When the Los Angeles Lakers pulled their blockbuster trade with the Orlando Magic, most of the times the only name mentioned was Dwight Howard. Although Howard was by far the biggest the name in the deal, the deal consisted of several other players. The Lakers acquired two other players in the trade, Earl Clark and Chris Duhon.

Duhon has been a backup point guard throughout his NBA career and he will likely have the same role with the Lakers this upcoming season. Duhon told the Los Angeles Times that he wants to find some minutes for the Lakers in 2012-13 and make an impact on this franchise that is looking at nothing short of a championship.

“I want to play,” Duhon said in a phone interview with The Times. “My approach is to go in there and show I can play and produce. However it works out, come start of the season, I want to be in the rotation.”

Duhon averaged 3.8 points and 2.4 assists in 19.5 minutes a game last season with the Magic, clearly not eye-popping statistics. Still, the Lakers do not need Duhon to put up amazing numbers, as long as he runs the team’s offense well.

Duhon will provide starting point guard Steve Nash with valuable resting time and preserving Nash’s energy will work wonders for the Lakers in the playoffs. However, Duhon will also have to play behind Steve Blake, the second-string point guard for this team. So although Duhon is very interested in playing for the Lakers, his time on the court may be limited.

Best way to be part of the rotation is to go in there defend and score points. The problem is Duhon’s career best at 6.8 ppg, gets worse in playoffs and he’s been in the nba for 8 years, not sure the Lakers need a player like him..

trade one of the 2 so we can move up in the 2013 draft lakers are still old D12 needs a running mate for the future

Blake’s problem is that he is not a drive and kick type of point guard. Very rarely do you see him penetrate defenses, forcing opposing defenses to adjust. Duhon’s bigger frame, pick ‘n’ roll play, and the ability to penetrate defenses i think make him a more valuable backup. There’s a reason why Blake is an NBA journeyman.

Duhon will play more minutes than Blake due to his injury, I think he will do  well given the weapons the lakers have all we need him to be is an average nba point gaurd not trying to diss him he is playing against the best in world. so if he can just fill in until blake gets better and if duhon does well we found our guy and if not then we will just have to wait and see what blake can offer

Duhon just needs to play solid D (and stay in front of quick gaurds) make open shots and he will be the back up to nash period (wrong time to get hurt for blake will miss important practice and preseason games to be ready for the season what a dumb ass) its there for the taking for Duhon make the best of it or you will ride the pine 90% of the season also F*** RAMON SESSIONS BITCH we would not be talking about this sh**
