Lakers News and Rumors Recap: Team Targeting Kevin Love Before Deadline

The NBA trade deadline is just two days away and once again, Kevin Love has been the focal point of trade talks. It was reported today that the Lakers and Mavericks are in the mix for Love as they both are trying to put together a package for the power forward that would tempt Minnesota to ship the All-Star west.

Love has two more years left with the Timberwolves before he will hit free agency. While the better move for the Lakers would be to wait until Summer 2015 to go after the Southern California native, it appears as if they will make the necessary moves to acquire Love before Thursday’s trade deadline.

Any package that the Lakers put together would have to include forward Pau Gasol, whose contract will expire this summer. The Lakers might also have to offer their first round pick in the upcoming draft.

Despite all of the rumors that Love will be moved within the next two days, Timberwolves’ President Flip Saunders has indicated that the team has no plans to move the perennial All-Star.

“they will make the necessary moves to acquire Love before Thursday’s trade deadline.”

Good luck with that as they have no real assets currently but best TO MAKE SOME TRADES TO ACQUIRE ASSETS to have better odds of wheeling and dealing come 2015 trade deadline.

An expiring contract is very attractive asset, don’t you think? Especially for Minnie which doesn’t have Love’s love…and I still think there is someone in Minnie by the name of Rubio…. ????!!!!

      • Jim213

So if you’re the Wolves trade Love for Pau for no real assets or for someone who won’t be around next season?!?! They’ll wait until 2015′s trade deadline to get a true deal.

        • http://www.haveslot.com/ richard

GAsol is typical Adelman Center… and with the situation with Love not going anywhere north… yeah, I would… as mentioned here before and by no less than Kobe the Bean Bryant… chemistry is greatest… If I am FOI, that is what I will do… bring in people that wants to be there and wants to play together…. Love doesn’t want to stay in Minnie…

          • Jim213

Know this but unlikely, unless Wolves want to give him up for nothing in return.

          • http://www.haveslot.com/ richard

yeah, that’s what every one said about D12 coming to LA… but FO was able to swing that deal… can be unlikely… but might likely be… who knows? We are all speculating at this point… lol

          • Jim213

DH was traded on his last contract year. Love has a player option after the 2014-2015 season. Doubtful again but possible next season IF FO can attain some assets.

          and our first round pick

          • Jim213

Lakers can’t trade this years pick per CBA and the Nuns have the Lakers pick for 2015. However, they can draft their 1st rounder and ship him out after which wouldn’t work IMO.

Best to make trades NOW for assets b/c they won’t have any assets for next season to wheel and deal for Love before 2015s trade deadline.

Not sure how this could happen, but if it does happen then WOW.

  • http://www.haveslot.com/ richard

Can Deng be traded this season? I think he is really unhappy with the situation at Cleveland…. that team is a mess…

  • ra

Of course they’re ‘targeting’ Kevin Love. That doesn’t mean anything. They could also have been ‘targeting’ LeBron, or Melo.

Who is Minnesota ‘targeting’? That’s what matters. It’s not like teams are eager to just ‘give it up’ to trade with the Lakers.

However, Rubio & Gasol would actually be a deadly combo. I think that Rubio has even expressed interest in that. That’s all the bargaining chip the Lakers have now.

Lakers are idiots if they give up there pick too

    • vdogg

no way are the lakers getting love. not this season, anyway.

  • MambaMentality24

Lakers can’t trade their 2014 pick. Do any of you writers know anything about the Lakers?

  • http://rantsofascorpio.wordpress.com/ Evan

Why not draft high, and target Love for next year/sign him as a FA?

Doubt Lakers get Love this season.

  • vdogg

DO NOT give up that first round pick, mitch. i’d rather wait for love than give up a lottery pick in this upcoming draft, which is loaded.

  • gm jack

Wishful pathetic. why would they trade love. why??????????

    • Albert Cruz

      Because he’s gonna leave anyway

  • Don

Not sure why this writer suggests Lakers would include this year’s 1st round pick when clearly it is not allowed (as others have pointed out). Makes me question the entire story.

  • Peter Griffin

Flip Saunders would rather have him leave than face public black lash for trading him. Too bad the old GM is still not there. Kahn would have traded him by now and paired Gasol with Rubio.
