Pau Gasol, who was unavailable for the second half of Sunday’s game due to dizziness, was diagnosed with vertigo. Gasol is doubtful for Tuesday against the Knicks, the first game the two teams will play since Phil Jackson became President of Basketball Operations.

In addition to Gasol, Xavier Henry was examined by a hand specialist today who confirmed a torn ligament in his left wrist. While Henry will be able to play, he will need to undergo postseason surgery.

Dante Exum should directly sign with the Lakers without entering the NBA draft.Pretty much force his way to LA by selecting to withdraw from the draft and sign directly with the Lakers as a unrestricted free agent. He is not a American College player nor is he living in America nor was he born in America and he has no contract with any pro team so no buyout is necessary and the Lakers will have tons of cap space to sign Exum to a $7 to $9 million dollars per season that contract is far more than drafted rookies get paid.Nothing states in the rules that a foreign player must enter the NBA draft to be eligible to play in the NBA just check out other teams in the NBA and they sign players from overseas without drafting them.

Exum is no different than when players like Sarunas Jaikevicus or Timofey Mozgov,,Mirza Teletovic,Alexey Shved,Pablo Prigoni and many others over the years have came to the NBA highly touted without being drafted rather signing big money deals directly with NBA teams.Nothing can stop this from happening just check out that Tanaka deal with the Yankees and you will understand what i am talking about.

I hope Jim Buss or Mitch Kupchak is reading this or some Lakers fans or personal can pass the word along to the Lakers to get Dante Exum without using a draft pick on him instead sign him directly as a free agent since he is not playing in America he is considered a foreign player free to sign anywhere.Lakers need to get very creative and make this happen.Be a innovator and a pioneer Dante Exum.Rob Pelinka can make it become reality.

What about his age though he’s not 22 and over. Doesn’t being 18 forces him to have to go to the draft?

    • Josh

He is different from those other players you mentioned because he is younger and is not a professional basketball player. Amateur players have to use the draft to enter the NBA.

    • Diondre

The only reason these players got to sign with whatever team they wanted is because they didnt get picked up during the draft and at that point they become a free agent and can sign with whoever they desire. Exum will HAVE to go to the draft. He can try to force his way to the Lakers by not working out for any other teams besides the Lakers but that still doesnt guarantee that he won’t be picked up by anyone else. The team that drafts Exum will get rights to him no matter what…So if another team drafts him and Exum threatens to play overseas its possible that the Lakers can trade for his draft rights. That would be the only scenario where the Lakers could draft another player with a lottery pick and still get their hands on Exum.

Kobe Bryant is perfect for sending the message to Pelinka that the Lakers want Dante Exum to come directly to the Lakers as a free agent by not staying in the draft. The Lakers need to move quickly on this free agency opening through a loophole with Dante Exum.

Now you’re using your noggin… but if this ever took place call it an eye for an eye seeing as the brand got screwed over in the CP3 deal.

      • Jeff

when you say you hear that the Magic will take Exum 3rd overall, you mean that article out of Orlando where a writer is just speculating what the magic could be looking for?

    • Josh

The only way this is possible is for Exum to enter the draft this year, not sign his contract and not play organized basketball anywhere for the entire year, then do the same thing next year. After two years of not playing basketball, he can sign with any team he wants as a free agent. Nice try, though.
