The Lakers received shocking news today that Kobe Bryant will be out for six weeks due to a knee fracture sustained in the Lakers victory against the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday night. It was believed at first that he hyper extended it, as he continued to play on the injured knee. This is another devastating blow as Bryant has just come back from a long hiatus due to his Achilles injury. Is this an isolated incident, or can this be a long chain of injuries to come for the aging Bryant?

It was also announced today that Xavier Henry will play the point guard position for the Lakers. This is just be a temporary fix until Jordan Farmar comes back from his hamstring injury. As we have seen this season, Henry has played the point coming off the bench this season, but has not looked very comfortable running the offense. However, Henry has done pretty well in the pick and roll and creating shots for himself this season. Look for Henry to be more aggressive as he starts for the Lakers and has free reigns to run the show.

In related news, Steve Nash’s return has also been delayed for four more weeks. As Nash continues to battle his ailments, the Lakers will have to keep playing as a cohesive unit. Like they say in Hollywood “the show must go on”.

IMO, given all the injuries which involves no 100% assurance of injured players staying healthy after returning from injury while Kobe being out possibly 8 weeks… the Lakers may miss the playoffs. Unless a trade is made to address some of the team’s weaknesses otherwise they’ll likely come up short given the Western Conference is COMPETITIVE this season.

Thus, the Lakers don’t have enough depth being starters to contend against the Suns, Mavericks, etc… etc… down the stretch. Especially since Kobe’s comeback is further pushed back towards the final 6-8 weeks of the season. (but hopefully am proven wrong for team sake).

With the addition of Kendall Marshall I don’t think playoff is realistic here. However, wouldn’t it be nice to see a core group of players of
Johnson (SF), Henry (SG), Marshall (PG), Jordan Hill (PF), Draft Pick (C)?

Of course these guys won’t win anytime soon but with the addition of 1~2 FA in the future I could see Lakers back in action within two years or so (after Kobe is gone :( )

Don’t get me wrong I would love Kobe but its just unrealistic to see a championship contending this team OR next year (maybe if Melo came here for $8mil lol which lets us get another good FA)

A very sad day.Hopefully Kobe can really comeback soon.Kobe a hero to millions.

THIS is why that contract is stupid. As great as he is, he’s old. “Approximately half of the patients who sustain a tibial plateau fracture are aged over 50 years old.” A smart organization points it’s free agent cap room at people under 30. This is true in all team sports. Bring back Jerry West.

just wait for him to comeback if ever. but yeah, this is the beginning of the end for him. but don’t say things like “stupid” or whatever, it may sound like you’re just a hater or something.
