Lakers News And Rumors Recap: Kevin Love Rumors Continue

Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports[/caption]With the NBA trade deadline (Feb.20) drawing near and the Los Angeles Lakers in the midst of major slump, the talk has shifted from competing for a playoff spot in the Western Conference this season to setting up the future of the storied franchise.

One big name that continues to get mentioned as a potential target for the Lakers is perennial All-Star Kevin Love. Although the trade rumors will continue to circulate involving Love to the Lakers, the more realistic option for the team to acquire the veteran forward is in free agency in 2015.

Love has become increasingly frustrated with the Minnesota Timberwolves and for good reason. Minnesota has tried to build around Love for the last few years, but simply can’t seem to put the right pieces together in order to make the Timberwolves a legitimate playoff contender in the West.

Fortunately for Love, the forward can become a free agent in the summer of 2015 and appears to have the Lakers and New York Knicks at the top of his list of potential destinations.

Along with Love, big-names like LaMarcus Aldridge, Rajon Rondo and Kyrie Irving might also be testing the market in 2015. The Lakers will likely be major players in free agency that summer with some of these big-names possibly headed to Los Angeles.

  • Tankapalooza 2014

Lakers must continue tanking for Andrew Wiggins 2014-2015 roster maybe baby.

    PG Mo Williams+Kendall Marshall+Jordan Farmar
    SG Kobe Bryant+Nick Young+Jodie Meeks
    SF Andrew Wiggins+Xavier Henry
    PF Kevin Love+Jordan Hill
    C Jason Smith+Robert Sacre

Embiid will be better(Defense wins championship, right?
even Parker or Randle would be better than Wiggins.
      Wiggins aint that good..

    • JohnC

PG, SF & C are too weak.

PG – good directors but not much scoring. Just Marshall brings above average dime contribution. Why not keeping Blake for Williams?

+ Neither Wiggins nor Henry are top defenders, nor do they bring consistent contribution offensively. And just Kobe (in his last years as a professional) + Love can’t guarantee good offense.

+ Keep Pau as a free agent (cheaper contract), or bring his brother Mark if you want LA Lakers to be a contender. But Smith & Sacre are ok as second centers only. Why not keeping Pau & Kaman? Love, Hill, Kaman & Pau = too good to be possible maybe; and maybe D’Antoni’s system is not the best to make this happen.

But Love, Kobe, Pau are not the best to run D’Antoni’s sprint-shot system.

Besides: you cannot point to a single team that has succeed with just two top scorers. And nobody knows if Kobe is going to become more of a playmaker (though top playmaker, sure) after injuries.

  • Tankapalooza 2014

Kevin Love hates Minnesota as much as the Lakers did when they moved to LA.

  • Old Clippers Benoit+Cage

Yeah i find it amazing how Kevin Love wants to be a Laker yet Kupcake is too coward to make it happen in a trade this season. What a jerk the GM is.Keep on losing loser Jim Buss. The team is a joke since Jerry Buss left the team in his hands.Tommy Boy messed up the Lakers that fatso made us the old Clippers.

    • cj

      how is he a coward?

fist the lakers dont have anything the wolfs want atm.

second getting love now would hurt our draft by making us win more games.

there is nothing wrong with waiting a season to be good again. just calm down and breath.

  • ra

Kevin Love belongs in LA, period. By hook or crook, now, or someday.

  • corky carroll

Why does LakersNation continue to run the same nothing stories over and over, I know there is not much to write about but at least you could try and come up with something new and not just run the same story again and again. Come on.

    • borsalino12

What is wrong with that? It is a good topic to talk and write about. If you somehow felt bored, then simply don’t reed this article.

  • borsalino12

Kevin Love is a target for the 2015, not now. This summer, M.Kupchak has to look for some other pieces we need. Here are few names from the free agent market 2014.
PG Eric Bledsoe has QO from the Suns for $ 3.7 mil.I am sure, he will look for a better deal, somewhere else.
PG Isaiah Thomas has QO from the Kings for $ 1.1 mil.The same apply to him.
PG KYLE LOWRY (Raptors) is UFA

SF Luol Deng (Cavs) is UFA
SF Danny Granger (Pacers) is UFA

PF Greg Monroe (Pistons) has QO for $ 5.4 mil.

C Andray Blatche (Nets) has PO for 2014-15 for $ 1.4 mil. He can pick-up his Player Option and became UFA.
    C Spencer Hawes ( 76-ers ) is UFA

Any one of this players can be a good fit for our team.

  • Crenshaw on my shirt

Kevin Love is the best PF in the league and I would love to have him but the Lakers better be looking at Joel Embiid from Kansas if he’s still available. Kevin love is not a rim protector, and the Lakers desperately need that. Zach LaVine from UCLA would be a great draft pick if Embiid is already taken

  • Marty Susman

Love would Love to play in purple & gold. His best friend is Russell Westbrook (2015) & he will be here, sooner or later. Truth is the “real” free agents won’t be available until the 2015 group comes out.
