Kevin Love and the Lakers have been linked for months now. With Love set to become a free agent in the summer of 2015 and Love’s apparent discontent with the Minnesota Timberwolves, rumors are sure to continue to fly.

Things are sure to get interesting now that Love has apparently told the Timberwolves that he will exercise his early termination option after next season. With that lingering over their heads, the team is now feeling pressure to consider trade options for the All-Star. The Lakers are sure to be one of many teams lining up with their best offer.

Of course the Lakers still need a new head coach. One popular name that has popped up is former point guard Derek Fisher, whose name has also come up for the New York Knicks head coach position.

Fisher’s current coach with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Scott Brooks, believes that Fisher would make a great coach. He also believes that Fisher coaching the New York Knicks next season would make a lot of sense.

PLEASE do not trade the lottery pick for this guy!! let him go to boston — they will give up all the picks they have garnered for him and he will put up great numbers on a horrible team. and the celtics will never win anything!

    • cyborgspider

and then he comes to the Lakers in 2015, leaving the Celtics with nothing to show for hehe

      • vdogg

i like the way you think!

        • Jim213

According to Marc Stein and Ramona Shelburne (ESPN), Love “has made it clear to the Timberwolves that he intends to become an unrestricted free agent after next season.”

  • They call me Pringles

Just wondering, what’s the possibility of signing BOTH Gay and Bosh this summer while acquiring Love for our pick? Will it work salary wise and chemistry wise?

    • cyborgspider

I believe if you’re under the salary cap, you can take incoming salary that eventually puts you over. So let’s say you have following scenario:

Kobe, Sacre (waive Nash, renounce EVERYBODY): 28 mil cap space

Gay and Bosh sign for 13 mil each (so unlikely, but let’s roll with it). 2 mil cap space remaining (give or take, tweak the numbers, just stay under)

Trade Love for the pick, you are now well over the salary cap (he will have a 15 mil salary) and may even hit the luxury mark. You now have to fill out the roster spots with minimum salaries.

C Bosh PF Love SF Gay SG Bryant PG Farmar? Marshall?

Bosh already took a paycut and sacrificed his game to win titles. Stands to reason he wants to be the big dog or at least #2 and get paid for it. Gay is a volume shooter, I see him as Swaggy P Who Can Finish at the Rim.

Chemistry wise? That’s a Breaking Bad meth lab explosion waiting to happen. So it ain’t gonna. Get two superstars and build around them with defenders and shooters.

    Be realistic people.

If you can get Kevin Love this year and sign him to a 5 year extension, then do it. You have the chance of being an instant contender with two top 10 players. There is no guarantee this draft pick is going to turn into the next Kobe/MJ. We can then get a coach both KL and KB want and we’re back into the playoffs with a solid centerpiece and happy superstars. Lakers get a top 10 player right now, Wolves get a potential top 10 players in the future. Everyone wins. There is absolutely no guarantee he is going to wait all the way till next year just to join the Lakers. Snag this guy now. (PS. he owns Blake Griffin)

  • VillainKing

Yeah keep the lottery pick Lakers we have a great chance to win the #1 overall pick in 2014 NBA draft..

  • SD

A lot of analysts are downplaying the Lakers chance to snag him…but so much is in flux with the teams he’s interested in…Will Melo stay? Does Rondo want to leave? How does DRose look? How does Kobe look? Can Steve Kerr actually coach? Who will coach the Lakers, Knicks, Twolves? Soooo many questions.

The Lakers don’t have the assets…yet. But they can get them…that’s the thing that makes this fun. Mitch, right now, is looking at potential FA’s for this summer…who he could sign that would entice the Twolves…who…I doubt want to trade Love. they’re going to try to put a team around him this upcoming season.

The Lakers have time to amass picks, players. It should be interesting.

  • carew10

if “we” could take or wiggins,or parker, ora embiid,or exum,or lavine,or smart in this draft, i think would be without sense make a trade with minnasota!us and love need to wait the FA 2015!if “we” will have or randle,or gordon,or vonleh…i could understand the trade for bring love in LA without wait FA 2015.

  • Tony Tellez Diaz

Lakers get Love Now! Then Go After Kyrie Irving Next, Nate Robinson would be nice too! Byron Scott, Kurt Rambis and other Showtime legends should coach the Lakers! #UncleDrewLakers

  • TheTruthKills

The more I read these rumors the more I realize we have no chance of getting Love. We don’t have enough to offer. The 2014 and 2019 picks aren’t near enough and no player is going to sign with us knowing they would be shipped straight to Minnesota for Love. Teams like the Bulls, Celtics, and Warriors can offer way more than we can. He’ll end up on one of those three teams with a 5 year extension. Time to let the Love dream go.

    • purp& goldpride

I usually don’t agree with you truth, but I concur on this subject. The.warriors abd bulls just simply have more to offer, and we’ll.must likely end up offering too.much. klay, Barnes/draft pick, and lee? That’s a great deal. Gibson , boozer + pick is a good deal…although I believe he has a much greater chance at success in the leastern conference. We shall see, but I wouldn’t gamble our pick thks year for him.
