This off-season the Lakers have a number of tasks. Chief among them is the hiring of a new coach. After taking a little while, things have finally kicked off as the team has begun interviewing potential candidates.

Yesterday introduced Lionel Hollins as a candidate, but today brought a new name into the fold. Los Angeles Clippers assistant coach Alvin Gentry will interview for the job on Wednesday.

Gentry joins Hollins, Mike Dunleavy, and Byron Scott as candidates who have interviewed or are scheduled to do so.

Today also brought out new Kevin Love rumors with new destinations emerging, which could damage the Lakers’ chances of landing the All-Star. The Washington Wizards are looking like a ‘stealth candidate’ after their impressive playoff run and the Sacramento Kings may be willing to trade for Love with no assurances of Love re-signing with the team.

No thanks to Alvin Gentry he is a NO Defense coach pass on him.Terrible coach.

  • Carlos

The Lakers need to hire Lionel Hollins since he is a leader of men.

    Repost more like whoa.

Scary thought this loser that never won shit as a coach never even made the playoffs only twice out of 12 seasons.10 seasons NO PLAYOFFS!Jim Buss era is upon us now where finding the biggest tanker the biggest loser is top priority. How can anyone support this team under the current management?Until they start making smart choices i am out with these clowns boycott.

The Lakers will be in the lottery NO PLAYOFFS for at least 8-10 years straight if they hire Alvin Gentry that’s how far backwards they will go with a incompetent lost cause like imbecile Gentry. This is getting close to the point of no return for the Lakers. They have just about slammed the door shut on becoming a contender again. The arena will be empty when the Lakers play games and full when the Clippers play games. Is that the plan it sure seems like it right now.

The Lakers have not progressed forward at all in the last 4 years they keep going further backwards in a negative direction.Hiring anyone but Alvin Gentry a MDA clone is the right choice.

Hire Lionel Hollins or Byron Scott or David Blatt or Billy Donovan or Derek Fisher or George Karl or Tyrone Lue or Mark Jackson or Jeff Van Gundy or
Fred Hoiberg or Vinny Del Negro or Dave Fizdale or Avery Johnson or
Ettore Messina or Sam Cassell or Pete Myers or Thibs or Chip Engelland.Hire anyone of those coaches instead of Trash Alvin Gentry crap.SMFH

The best I can tell Gentry has only been a head coach for 8 seasons (and those weren’t all full seasons), so I’m not sure where you’re getting your numbers. He took the Suns to the WCFs his first season as HC (2010), and no he’s not an MDA clone. After his first season as HC of the Suns Steve Nash was about all he had on that team. Nash left in 2012, and they had nothing. He’s a good coach. I don’t know that he’s the right guy for the Lakers job, but there’s no reason to act like he’s some incompetent idiot. I don’t know what your problem is, but most coaches in the NBA are pretty qualified. There’s no reason to trash people, especially when you know very little about them.

Love the insults from people who obviously aren’t that familiar with Alvin Gentry. Doc Rivers has credited him with making the Clippers the #1 offensive team in the league. He’s also been a defensive assistant during his career. Can we try to get the facts before we start making a bunch of uninformed statements this time around? Probably not, but hope springs eternal.

  • borsalino12

Alvin is a loser. We don’t need him. Period.

  • roseducanna

    I don’t know why they interview Gentry ? B S coach.
