Lakers News And Rumors: Could Dante Exum Slide To The Lakers?

Many are expecting Dante Exum to be picked fifth overall in the NBA Draft. He is thriving on being called the mystery man right now. His skills are far but a mystery as this young 18-year-old player from Australia is hoping to make a big appearance at the NBA draft tomorrow.

The Lakers had no shot at Exum two weeks ago, but Joel Embiid’s injury rearranged everyone’s draft board. The Lakers top pick right now is Julius Randle or they may pick Marcus Smart, a tough player who likes getting to the rim. If Exum isn’t picked at 3rd or 4th, the Lakers have a chance of drafting the Aussie. Although they are amazing players, neither Smart or Randle have the “superstar” label that many NBA analysts see in Exum as his future unfolds in the NBA.

The Lakers were hoping on to land a meeting with Carmelo Anthony, but it looks like that won’t be the case.

According to ESPN Chris Broussard’s Twitter, he reports that the Lakers are not one of those teams who will meet with Anthony on July 1. Carmelo at the moment is only meeting with the Houston Rockets, Dallas Mavericks, and Chicago Bulls. They have good pairs for Carmelo as the Bulls can pair him up alongside a healthy Derrick Rose, Mavericks with Dirk Nowitzki, and Houston with James Harden and Dwight Howard.

Kobe Bryant talked with Carmelo privately as they are good friends and Bryant wants to recruit him to the team. It remains to be seen if Kobe’s pitch will work with the three other teams mentioned seemingly being atop Anthony’s list.

How is this possible? If Dante Exum is their at #7 i am popping bottles of Don.

  • LakersHeatBeef

If we get Dante Exum or Marcus Smart or Joel Embiid or Julius Randle i am popping bottles of Dom Pérignon.

  • LAL

Should have tanking the last 10 games. The Lakers could have been in 4th/5th position – much easier to draft Exum.

Hard to say what kind of player Exum is going to be but of all the players I’ve seen in recent years, he is the closest to Kobe in term of physical and skillset. Imagine this, after Kobe retires, we still have “Kobe” playing for the Lakers.

Unfortunately, the FO had decided not to tank the final 10 games in a already losing season. The only hope right now is nobody taking Exum ahead of us which I think is impossible.

  • LakersHeatBeef

This draft is top 7 heavy and our Lakers are in perfect position to come out like bandits in this legendary draft.Dom Pérignon is on ice for now.

  • TheTruthKills

If Wiggins and Parker go 1 and 2 Exum won’t fall past 3. It’s gonna be Smart or Randle for us, unless Embiid slips past the Celtics.

    • http://rantsofascorpio.wordpress.com/ Evan

Rumor (I know, I know) has it the Lakers won’t take Embiid @ 7.

      • Jerome

LOL I have to let ya know Joel Embiid tweeted out i’m a Laker.

That was later erased a minute later.I think his friend messed with his phone and tweeted that crap IDK.

  • AC

No way Exum will get to #7.. Sixers will definitely pick him at #3

    • Jim213

If that happens then it’s likely the rumored deal would still be on (LA/76ers) tho I’d throw in the opportunity to buy their earliest 2nd round pick too.

      • Zimmeredge

Philly might be interested in trading mcw and young for rondo.

        • Jim213

What for he won’t stay there. Might as well acquire fresher legs.

      • Badazztj12

Yea man I been wanting that trade for the longest. We may have a chance to continue Lakers winning ways much quicker

  • lakerfan

Marcus Smart is a great pick up for the Lakers a Pg who can play on both ends of the floor something the Lakers have lacked in the past few years

    • http://rantsofascorpio.wordpress.com/ Evan

Agreed. I’m a fan of defense and power in all sports, basketball is no exception.

  • LakersHeatBeef

No to Zack Lavine.Yes to Marcus Smart he is my top guy but Exum is interesting. No to #14 Zach Lavine just NO.We need defense and Marcus is a do it all player.

  • Krylk24

Not keeping my hopes up for exam
I got my hopes on smart we need defense
And what about vonleh? Hoping he falls too

  • globe_smart_sun

Elfrid Payton is much better :)

  • wangkon936

    Impossibru!!!

  • Shrek is Love24

No. He wont slip. We will probably draft randle, smart, and vonleh if he falls.

  • kiko

i like dante exum it is possible but i like more i like Jabari Parker and Noah Vonleh and also andrew wiggins get sign LA Lakers

  • Zimmeredge

At this point, journalists and fans dissing at randle is unbearable for me. The guy is one the most nba Ready, most versatile player in this yeaŕs draft. Unbelievable how he get bashed all the Time for his so-called short arms, his left hand only etc etc. The guy has the same body frame of griffin and practically the same game. He can shoot very well mid distance and sometimes three, already a better post game and he drops some fat pound for the workouts giving him the ability to increase his vert. He is a future all star, maybe superstar because he is charismatic and wants to win championships so bad. Smh on all the nay-sayers.

  • kiko

i am still hoping that Jabari Parker and Noah Vonleh and also andrew wiggins and dante exum to get sign for trade and cash LA Lakers

  • Badazztj12

NO Fucking Way he is dropping to us. Besides you really think the Celtics will let that pick drop to us?

    • http://www.foxhilldesign.com Josh

People are saying this about everyone the Lakers might take. The Celtics can’t draft everyone just to keep them from the Lakers.

      • Badazztj12

but you really think exum will drop that low?

        • http://www.foxhilldesign.com Josh

Who knows? The draft never plays out anywhere near the way all the “experts” think it will. I’m just saying I’ve heard people say the Lakers can’t get Gordon because the Celtics will take him. They can’t get Randle because the Celtics will take him. Now can’t get Exum because the Celtics will take him. The Celtics are going to do what they think is best for them, not what they think will stick it to the Lakers.

          • Badazztj12

am not going by what everybody saying. I just feel Celtics will do some shit like that. If you don’t like hell, I got nothing else to tell about that but anyway…I would rather Lakers trade the pick for MCW and 10th or MCW and Young

          • http://www.foxhilldesign.com Josh

I agree. I love the 7+Nash for MCW/Young rumor. Lakers trade rumors almost never happen, but that would be a great deal.

  • Lakers4Life

Whoever we pick, that rookie will sure be good bait to send out with Nash’s contract and we’ll be all set to get a hold of the LeBron and/or Carmelo.

  • Gino

I like Marcus Smart much better than this fool.

  • Kale Pinder

I’ll tell you all this now. This draft is EXTREMELY good. The top 8 prospects could be top 3-5 prospects in any other draft. We will end up with Randle, Vonleh, Smart, Embiid if he slips, or maybe Gordon. These players would be top 3-5 prospects in any other draft! Embiid still is but multiple injuries has dropped his stock. I say go Embiid if he’s there of course, but otherwise go either Smart or Randle, and if neither of those guys are there then someone has slipped. Maybe even Dante Exum?

  • Pelon

Amigos their are only 2 point guards i want and that is the vato Exum and the rough tough hombre Marcus Smart. All the other point guards are not on that level.Mucho gracias for the article senorita Anays.I better see either of the vatos Exum or Smart on the draft board and that gringo Mitch better draft one of them vatos.
Anays Navarro really thinks Dante Exum might be their for the Lakers i sure hope so senorita.Viva Los Lakers por vida!

  • Brownmamba84

Great article for conversation… Just can’t see this happening one bit. We will trade this pick to Philly for Michael Carter-Williams and Thaddeus Young and in return Philly will take the #7 and Steve Nash. Lakers need to get younger and create more cap space for Melo. You think Lebron wants to play with Kobe? The guy is chasing Kobe and Jordan for rings. Why would he want to help Kobe win more championships. Melo on the other hand doesn’t care since he doesn’t have one championship. That’s why you have only heard about Kobe calling Melo to recruit. If a trade can’t be done for the #7 pick before tonight the Lakers will just draft Smart or Randle. If Exum falls to #7 then its official.. God is a Laker fan. haha Hey Anays I got some more topics if you want to write about.. email: mustang462@hotmail.com

  • J Lee

The Lakers could be in the position high enough to pick him but thanks to those meaningless wins at the end of last season, now they are struggling at 7th. spot Lakers’s pride? Damn.

  • its never ogre 24

The stupid celtics just had to get the pick above us.

  • http://www.twitter.com/the_forum_club The Forum Club

Would be amazing, but incredibly unlikely Exum falls to #7.

  • Matt Martini

Shoulda picked Doug Mcdermott. Randle foot problems – not good. Lakers will regret this
