Lakers News: Agent Says Nick Young Wants To Be A Laker

This year’s Lakers team is full of players looking to prove that they belong in the NBA. Perhaps no player has improved his standing more than Nick Young.

Young has a player option for next year, but Mitch Kupchak believes that Young will opt-out. Despite that belief, the LA Daily News’ Mark Medina talked to Young’s agent, Mark Bartelstein, who says that Young still wants to be in Los Angeles after this year:

Nick wants to be a Laker. But his focus right now is to get healthy, get back on the court soon and finish rest of the season. That’s a conversation Mitch and I will have, but it’s too early at this point to talk about what he’s going to do.

With Young set to return Sunday against the Brooklyn Nets, the first part of that statement has already come true. Now it’s about what Young will do beyond this season.

It makes perfect sense for Young to opt-out this off-season as he could make far more money than the $1.2 million he would get by exercising his player option.

It is no secret that the Lakers want Young to stay a Laker and the feeling appears to be mutual, but the two sides will have to work out something that benefits both of them.

Young has become a fan favorite in Los Angeles and is even beginning to take a leadership role, mentoring some of the younger players.

This off-season, we will find out how bad each side really wants to stay together.

      Where will he end up?

Tough call, MWP had mentioned he’d consider retiring after being amnestied by the Lakers. As the other team he’d consider was the Knicks but now he may strongly consider retiring or end up playing for another team until the end of the season.

Like his agent said it’s way too early to have that conversation about what Nick will do.My thoughts are that Lakers fans keep speculating on the Lakers future and that’s fun and all for some but for me i am sick and tired of hearing about the Lakers are interested in so and so.

Their is no way in hell anyone can know who the Lakers are drafting since it’s a lottery and they can move up or move down.TBH even the players they have now we have no idea who is coming back and who is leaving.Other than Kobe,Nash,Marshall,Sacre,Kelly the team has no control over what our players decide on doing in free agency they are all unrestricted free agents and Nick has a player option and he will opt out of course.

he Lakers are not letting anyone in on their real plan to reach the top of the conference again.Nobody knew MarShon Brooks and Kent Bazemore were coming to the Lakers for Steve Blake the media and fans were fooled thinking Pau Gasol was going to be traded never happened.

Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak works secretly and he never gives away his true intention.Mitch has a poker face and he never admits we are rebuilding or we are playing lousy,he avoids the media at all costs.Jim Buss never says anything that would give away team plans for the future.Lakers FO works in secret and they are very successful, their track record speaks for itself.

I say they draft Jabari Parker so they take everyone for a loop then again they might draft Joel Embiid or Wiggins nah nevermind Dante Exum is the player they like nobody knows who they will draft do you get it now?

Nick young should do more of attacking the paint, using his crossover moves in driving inside the paint instead of jump shots! If he does that he can be aligned with Paul george level! He needs more discipline in shot selections.

I think Swaggy would be willing to give the Lakers a discount (more than he would make with his player option however, he’s earned it).

One other dynamic that might come in to play as to some of these other young players and what they would be willing to take to resign is the performance (or lack of) Earl Clark.
Had a good year last year in the MDA system, went for the big payday, and never had the impact that he did while on the Lakers.
That has to be in the back of some of these players hoping to stick around next season I would think.

The last guy who opted out expecting to be brought back was Ramon Sessions.
