There’s a very slim chance mathematically, however I don’t think it’s going to happen. The Lakers as much as I hate to say it, are out of it. I think we can all agree it’s not the age or athletic problem as most of these genius sports reporters ignore the facts that the Celts and Mavs won championships even though they weren’t particularly young or athletic. Look most of these teams with at least two superstar scorers can put up enough points to win providing they can hold the opponent below what they score. Celts did it. San Antonio does it. Last year the Heat excelled in their defense, and won it all. The component missing with the Lakers is defense. Why is it missing? It’s not just the lack of effort, or they are too slow. The prime fact is they don’t have a head coach who stresses defense on a constant basis. I’m not sure the Lakers HC even knows or understands the concept. At least Phil devoted a coaching assistant to defense, and he won a few championships. Enough said.
