Pau Gasol

Injuries continue to rip the Los Angeles Lakers apart this season with the latest victim being four-time NBA All-Star Pau Gasol.

According to a Lakers press release, Gasol will miss at least a week before being re-evaluated next weekend meaning he’ll be out for the entire three-game road trip. Gasol underwent an MRI last night following the loss to the Charlotte Bobcats.

Veteran center Chris Kaman also underwent an MRI on Friday night to have a sore right knee checked out. Fortunately, Kaman’s MRI results came back negative and he’ll be able to shoulder the load for Gasol at center during the road trip next week.

Now that Gasol is on the shelf with the groin injury, the Lakers will have Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Steve Blake, Jordan Farmar and Xavier Henry out of commission. Nash and Blake may be able to get back on the floor on Tuesday against the Minnesota Timberwolves, but their return is not set in stone.

Needless to say, this season continues to get worse with players getting injured on a nightly basis while the team struggles to compete against even the worst teams in the league.

Wow the injuries are at a all time high for the Lakers. Now Pau is out.

  • Gregory Choa

Well, if nothing else, this opens up the door for some more PT for Chris Kaman and a bigger opportunity for Ryan Kelly to spread his wings a little more. It’s a short (2 game) week for the Lakers though…

    • Daryl Peek

I wouldn’t be surprised if Sacre and Hill gets all of the PT and Kaman still sits. Kaman and PT is the one thing I really take issue with on D’Antoni

      • Jim213

        Caveman on the bench…

        • Daryl Peek

On this bet (sigh) if the Donkeys win, I only gotta bare this shame for one week after the big game. GO SEACHICKENS

  • Joel

Well, now they can go balls out MDA offense since Pau won’t be there to slow them down and cry and whine about his touches afterwards. They were pretty fun to watch and was actually 10-9 at that time.

    • e3bonz

Didn’t Pau play in all those games?

      • Karl

He did but he didn’t do much that first 20 games. I’d go as far to say as they got to 10-9 inspite of him. He was awful. He picked it up this month, but as NotSoAnonymous put it bluntly: It’s all too late and what good is his 20+ if he’s a big donut hole in the middle on defense.

man come on, guy was shooting 50%+ with nearly 22ppg and 12rebounds this month, doing it while suffering from injuries too

      • NotSoAnonymous

And the Lakers lost 12 games this month…The most losses in a month since 1963 I believe (for the Lakers obviously). Offense was never a problem with this team…It’s been D. Pau can score 20 and grab 12 Reb. But it’s all useless if his defender scores 30 and grabs 20. Don’t get me wrong, Paus been great in the past and heck, he’s finally playing well, but it’s a little too late. Nevertheless, Lakers need major changes. Upper management, staff (including Gary Vitti), players, and maybe even uniforms. Stop living in the past, and create a new dynasty. Unfortunately, injuries really destroyed any sort of potential this team had this year…but maybe next year with a healthy Kobe, high draft pick, some free agent signing or signings, the Lakers can compete once again. I actually enjoy most of the players on this team but their inability to play D and shake off a loss really makes you question whether they’re Laker material. Yet, I do believe in second chances…not for Nash though..no more Nash and no more Pau pleaaassse!

Agree, injuries have hurt the team as many have not taken advantage of the opportunity (ex. W Johnson). Had the Lakers 3-7 from the start of the Grammy trip but looks like they’ll end up 2-8 after Tuesday (exceeded expectations SMH). Ever since Magic mentioned the team needs a coach with championship experience.

But from the looks there isn’t anyone really available with that kind of experience to coach the team for the long term (years). Thus FO should follow history an mold a good prospective coach. How about Stu Lantz?… very knowledgeable and experienced as a broadcaster, but before you post your are you kidding post… this is the way that Pat Riley got his shot.

Being he was named interim head coach after replacing coach Westhead (81-82 season) due to Magic’s unhappiness with the coach as the rest is history. However, just a proposition with regards to Stu but they should seriously hire someone for the long term (building phase) b/c this will take another 2-3 years to resolve (pray).

knowing MDA, caman still wont play LOL

Let the guy get some time man :/

  • socali

And Kaman will still be riding the bench for whatever reason.

  • lakerfan0

Kaman be like “This is my moment!”

and then MDA sits him the fuck down

Everything i have heard and read about Pau Gasol says he has no trade value at all.I look at his numbers and expiring contract as a easy trade asset but every GM in the NBA sees it differently.Lakers should have traded Pau Gasol 3 years ago, once the Chris Paul veto trade.Pau is not what he once was ever since Shannon Brown got some off his hot Latina girlfriend.Lakers missed the boat on making a good return for Pau 3 years ago when they could have found another trade for him way more easily than now.
