Lakers Injury News: Pau Gasol Injures Groin In Loss To Pacers

During the Lakers 104-92 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday Night, Pau Gasol aggravated his groin in the first half of play. Gasol was held out of the first minute and a half of the third quarter to stretch out his injured groin. Pau returned but was clearly laboring with every trip up and down the court due to the injury according to Kevin Ding of Bleacher Report:

Gasol was able to finish with a strong stat line of 21 points and 13 rebonds, his fifth straight game with 20 points and 10 rebounds. Even though Gasol is posting All-Star caliber stats as of late, the Lakers continue to struggle, especially on the defensive end, as they have gone 3-17 in their last 20 games.

After the game Pau admitted that he had injured his groin according to Lakers Nation reporter Serena Winters:

Since returning from his upper respiratory infection, Gasol has easily been the best and most consistent player for Lakers, averaging over 20 points and 12 rebounds in January.

With the Lakers already missing key backcourt players in Kobe Bryant and Steve Nash, losing Gasol long term could be detrimental to the Lakers’ chances of turning things around. Gasol returning for the second half was a good sign as the injury-ridden Lakers can’t afford to lose any more players.

Put on your big boy jock strap next time…sorry Pau, I couldn’t resist

Best to try a three player trade involving Kaman (gets plenty of mins) and two other players b/c looks like they may be going over the cap again. I’d call the Spurs given Ginobli may be out (hamstring) aside of them not having enough in the tank even with the injuries to possibly make it to the finals this yr (competitive).

Time’s running out for Duncan and Ginobli as I don’t believe a first rounder would matter for the Spurs especially since they’re all in (ring or bust). Pau, IMO would sign an extension with the Spurs (no doubt). One hand washes the other on this one.

Why will they be going over the cap??? (Unless they can get a legitimate team during 2014 FA) I don’t see any reason for Lakers to go over the salary cap, might as well wait for Love in 2015

??$78 mil salary for this year? if not trading anyone.

Lakers hope for a luxury tax friendly trade might be in jeopardy.Pau is very good.

Another injury as a result of the Mike D’Antoni system. Running 7 foot finesse players up and down the court is stupid. You post up big players and make the guards cut, it doesn’t have to be the triangle, any half-court inside-outside system would be beneficial to this Lakers team, and would not cause so many injuries: Kobe, Pau, Jordan hill, Kaman, and Nash would all benefit. Fire D’Antoni!

I’ve really had enough of people getting down on Pau – he has showed up to play every game (through injuries) and has dropped at least 20 points, pulled down over 10 boards and dimed at least 5 assists. He is our only valid big man – now that Kaman has been buried – and the amount of minutes he has to play running up and down the floor with this stupid ass “Dantoni System” tires him out by the 4th quarter. The fact that guards blow by Kendra Marshmallow every time and get into the paint for layups isn’t his fault – he has never been a shotblocker – but he is a solid post defender. His natural position is PF – not Center. And I believe a mailbox could play better defense than Ryan Kelly. This stupid system runs him into the ground and then people want to blame him for not having the energy in the 4th quarter? Dantoni has tried his hardest to trade Pau since he has gotten to LA – and now he wants to rely on him to lead this pack of idiots? Not even Stonewall Jackson could lead these losers to a victory.

I still love you Pau and want you as a Laker for the rest of your career

    • Ikjyot Singh Kohli

Sir, you hit the nail right on the head. Gasol is a 2x champion, it’s time the bandwagon Lakers fans start treating him like one. Dantonis system is 100% the reason for the collapse of this team.

He should just call it quit’s & claim injury & forget this season all together…
