The Los Angeles Lakers are not expected to have a new head coach by the May 20th NBA Draft lottery, but they are expected to expand on their already lengthy list of potential coaching candidates. It’s been a week since Mike D’Antoni’s resignation, which was met with sighs of relief by the Lakers fan community. Sit back as we take you through the extensive list of coaching candidates. From safe picks like Byron Scott to college coaches like Kevin Ollie to former Lakers and current NBA coaches, the Lakers have quite a diverse pool to choose from. But, just who is the right fit for this Lakers team?

Well i still got my top 5 coaching list and it has changed just a little.

    1.Lionel Hollins
    2.Kevin Ollie
    3.Jeff Van Gundy
    4.Byron Scott
    5.George Karl

    • Daniel

Lionel Hollins? Kevin Ollie? Men, o men. I think you are going in the wrong direction. We need a solid coach, a winner, someone who can put up with the team, the fans, and the city media. Getting average coaches like the last two, gave us nothing.
      1) Hollins – no Chance
      2) Ollie- No chance
      3) Van Gundy – Maybe
      4) Scott – Best option
      5) Karl – He said many times he hated the lakers, so know, he needs a job, f…..him.

Hollins took grizzlies to the WCF last year. Had he had a scorer he would have probably given the Spurs a fight. He made the Grizzlies better.
Kevin Ollie is a longshot. I kinda agree with you on this.
Van Gundy is also a stretch. Both of them are.
Byron Scott is a better option than a college coach but given his last coaching job, that worries me a little.
Karl is like a D’Antoni lite. I’m skeptical of him. Hollins and maybe Scott are our best options at this point.

Also some other candidates if we can get a Thibs buy out and a Brooks or Vogel firing this is the other group of coaches i like.

    Mark Jackson
    Stan Van Gundy

  • Daniel

looks to me that the Lakers are not doing anything regarding the coach, otherwise it would be all over the news, and what we hear are pure speculations with no solid base.
Either they are waiting for a coach to be fired to jump on it, or they are speculating that if they get someone good in the draft or through trade, that would help to recruit a better coach.
That is scary. Lakers should have a coach already and draft accordingly.
