Lakers Decade of Dominance – Here’s the Proof!

By Gary Lee | Editorials » News | 22.12.09 | SocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

In the glorious history of the Los Angeles Lakers, there is no such thing as a boring decade. The 50’s, led by George Mikan, were when we established ourselves as the first dynasty of the NBA. The 60’s, led by Jerry and Elgin, instilled a sense of hunger for winning that this Lakers franchise still feels ’til this day. The 70’s team of Jerry and Wilt showed what team work can do for our franchise and laid the foundation for the 80’s, which became a decade where the Lakers, led by Magic and Kareem, redefined the way NBA Basketball was played! The 90’s led by Nick Van Excel and Eddie Jones (not the same sound as the others, huh?), much like the 70’s gave the league a chance to catch up, but we didn’t just sit idly by. Instead, we went out and laid the cornerstones of a foundation for another decade of dominance that we saw come to their own by the end of the decade in the form of Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant.

Let’s look back and what they both did for the Lakers Franchise by taking a look at the highlights that defined our Decade of Dominance starting with Phil’s first year as the head coach of the Lakers – in the year TWO-THOUSAND:
