Kobe’s Advice To Exum: ‘There Will Be A Lot Of Off-Court Distractions’

As the NBA Draft approaches, a number of rumors will continue to surface about which team wants which player. Dante Exum has been at the center of a number of rumors for weeks now.

Many believe Exum is trying to force his way to the Lakers. Exum, however, refuted those rumors at the NBA Pre-Draft Combine today. But he has talked to Kobe Bryant who, according to the LA Daily News’ Mark Medina, had some advice for the Australian phenom:

Exum is one of the most unknown prospects in the draft, but his physical tools are tantalizing to a number of teams, and he will almost definitely be selected in the top-5 of the draft.

With the Lakers in need of a point guard and possibly possessing a top-3 pick, it makes sense that they would be interested in someone of his caliber. But talking to Bryant himself is a different matter.

Bryant knows what its like to come in the NBA as a fresh-faced teenager. Exum has never experienced the type of non-stop media coverage that he will receive in the NBA, especially if he joins the Lakers.

It can become easy for someone to get caught up in the bright lights and superstar lifestyle of the NBA. Bryant is trying to teach the young kid to keep his focus. Perhaps he will have a lot of time to pick Bryant’s brain about life in the NBA, but only if he gets drafted to the Lakers.

Give me Andrew Wiggins or Jabari Parker over Exum.Marcus Smart is going to be a great NBA player IMO.Lakers will be just fine come draft night.I hope the Lakers win the draft lottery on Tuesday May 20.If the Lakers win the draft lottery i will buy a Adam Silver jersey and hang a Adam Silver poster in my room lol.

    • LegendInMyMind

I think Marcus Smart will be a bust.

      • willthethrill

I totally Agree with this comment

  • LakersHeatBeef

I am already a huge Adam Silver fan after what he did to Donald Sterling and how he hates the fuck out of the Clippers and loves the Lakers and Jeanie Buss.Getting the number 1 pick from Adam Silver will make the Lakers fans love him forever.

    • KB24

Bad thing is that him and lebron are bff like durant to ollie

i just love how a lot of people are already underestimating Exum lol , i can’t wait to see where he goes and how he do.

  • adrian

Imagine exum spends most of the game just orchestrating the offense racking up the assists and then in crunch time he uses what Kobe taught him and takes it in post to do some vintage Kobe fadeaways. The future is bright for Dante at least I’d like to believe it is.

    • EmperorKing

Yeah if Kobe teach Exum the the fadeaway shot it will be great for him because that is Kobe’s signature move and as lakers fan i love to see it again a young lakers player like Exum doing that shot.

  • LakersGetPG24

I would be alright with Exum, but I prefer Embiid. We need a low post defender, obviously we must bring back Jordan Hill and Nick Young will be a great off the bench scorer. A healthy Kobe for veteran presence and closing games, I say and this is just me because I have faith but I think the Lakers should sign Bynum for the minimum and give him one more shot. I go with Mark Jackson for head coach and then save money to sign Kyrie Irving next off season. But hey thats just me.

    • Chrmngblly

If they do sign Bynum, they need to send him to Gasol’s doctor right away for his knees and Ron-Ron’s shrink right after that.

      • LakersGetPG24

        Lol agreed

trade the draft pick for Irving and sign Monroe and Deng , keep Gasol…
OR, if we can draft Jabbari, keep him . then sign Rondo sign Deng and Monroe and trade Gasol for available best player maybe a C/pf player or Melo.

    Sign Scott for Headcoach.
    what do you think?

    • LakersGetPG24

If we sign Monroe we have to get rid of Gasol. Like I said we need a low post defender. So sign Monroe and Deng and draft Embiid and sign Irving next off season. Re-sign Hill, Farmar, Kelly and Young, maybe Marshall too. If we draft Parker we don’t need Deng, so I would shift my focus from Deng to Bledsoe if Parker is drafted.

      • Zimmeredge

Jabari Parker is likely to play at the fourth considering his Weight and because he lacks lateral quickness plus he is already 6’8-6’9 so in two or three years he might be 6’9-6’10 in shoes. A good pair with gasol.

        • Chrmngblly

I would rather have Aaron Gordon, by far.

          • Zimmeredge

Aaron Gordon… By far? You fool.

          • Chrmngblly

I am fool, but besides that, Gordon is 6-9 and a freak athlete and a D-guy, which we need pretty badly. Naturally, I hope we get Embiid, Wiggins or Exum and it does not come to that but Aaron Gordon is likely to be the best available athlete left when we draft—that’s all I am saying.

      • Chrmngblly

Sign and trade Pau and Nash for Tyson Chandler and a decent guard.

  • mohammed

    i want exum or wiggins

    • Dion Dnice Snowden

      Exactly what I’m saying

  • EmperorKing

    just keep the pick Lakers..

  • KB24

I have a feeling of getting the kansas teammates or embiid and exum, one way or another not 1 but 2 rookies in the draft plus deng gasol young farmar nash especially i want exum to be a true point guard not a scorer mayBe 15 and 7-9 asst plus 2 stls with 6-8 reb will do then kobe 28-6-7-1.5-.5

  • mohammed

    wiggins or parker or exum

    • LakersGetPG24

      Embiid is the smartest choice

      • Drew

how can you say Embiid is the smartest choice if he is prone injury

        • Zimmeredge

Kobe Bryant is injury prone. He has played throughout injury during his entire career…. Not because you’re injured one time that you are injury prone. It’s a fatigue/stress fracture so that’s no big deal. Dwight’s injury was a worst injury for example.

        • Chrmngblly

If we could get Embiid, it would be very smart to draft him. That’s for sure.

        • Resin

Injury prone cause of one injury?

        • Dion Dnice Snowden

          I agree
