Kobe Bryant Says Scoring Title ‘Not Very Important’

It’s been a long, strange season for Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers. Yet, with just two games left in the season, the Lakers have a chance at securing the third seed in the hotly contested Western Conference and Kobe Bryant has a chance to win his third NBA scoring title.

Bryant is currently averaging 27.89 points per game, which is tops in the NBA. Nipping at his heels, however, is Oklahoma City Thunder forward Kevin Durant, who is putting in 27.79 points per contest.

With a strong showing on Sunday against the Thunder, Bryant can all but wrap up the scoring title. Other than the obvious fact that this is a tremendous accomplishment, when you consider that Bryant is in his 16th season.

But when asked about the opportunity to win another scoring title, Bryant gave a typical response.

“Not very important,” Bryant told Mark Medina of the L.A. Times.

Classic Kobe.

Now, if you’re anything like me you don’t believe Kobe’s supposed indifference about the scoring title. I’m sure Bryant would love nothing more than to prove he’s still the league’s top scorer. His closing quote all but assured us of that.

“You guys know I can get it,” Bryant said. “I’m not really tripping about it.”*

At least there he was telling the truth.

The Lakers will host the Thunder Sunday afternoon at 12:30 at the Staples Center.
