Julius Randle Says ‘Couldn’t Be More Blessed’ To Land With Lakers

The newest member of the Los Angeles Lakers is none other than Julius Randle out of Kentucky. The storied franchise chose to take Randle with the seventh overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft after the former Wildcat impressed Mitch Kupchak and company during a workout with the team.

Along with impressing the Lakers brass in Los Angeles, Randle is also a fan of the storied franchise and said the following after being drafted by the team, according to Mike Trudell of Lakers.com:

With the Lakers potentially having huge holes in the frontcourt, Randle could come in and make an immediate impact. Pau Gasol, Chris Kaman, and Jordan Hill will likely leave Los Angeles in free agency this summer, giving Randle an opportunity to prove to the franchise and the passionate fan base that he was the right choice in the draft.

It remains to be seen whether or not Randle will pan out in Los Angeles, but so far, the reaction has been positive to the Lakers’ selection of the Kentucky product.

Love love love this pick… i love his attitude, and love his fire… because I love players who come into the game like they are going into a WAR… Randle has that fire in him.

    • LakersHeatBeef

Yes i can dig that.Great attitude towards the Lakers franchise.

  • bigshotrob24

Im glad we drafted a player who really did want to be a laker

  • go2

Yo, nothing against him personally, but dude, get the fuck out of here! Undersized motherFreaker

    • don24830

size of the dog in the fight dont matter its the size of the fight in the dog

      • give randle a chance

        Well said…. Very well said

    • http://www.haveslot.com/ richard

Kwame Brown was really big… I thought you might like him.

    • http://rantsofascorpio.wordpress.com/ Evan

He doesn’t lack size, just length.

      • Your mother

Hes actually athletic and kinda long. 38 inch vertical thats the same as kobe at his draft combine. he is quick too!

    • kebs hags

6′-9″ 250 is not under-size. It’s a good size for a PF, plus he’s hardworking and has this tenacity attitude. I like this pick. I dont think we’ll see another 6′-10″ to 6′-11″ PF nowadays gifted with physical attributes. a Griffin or a Lebron or a KG come once every decade :)

      • Elcid Martinez

Randles wingspan is 6′ 11. So length isn’t his problem. It’s whether he can become a better shooter and learn to pass the ball! His ceiling is low. Hard strong player but limited..? I hope to god he proves me wrong. :) go Lakers!

        • Zimmeredge

          he has a 7foot wingspan…

          • Ammon E. Austin

You realize 6’11 and 7ft are 1 inch off right?

            And it measured at 6’11.

          • Elcid Martinez

Lol the point is, can randle expand his game? If so, the Lakers got a gem. If not.. “/

        • Thomas Klein

Over 3/4 of the players had questions in this draft lottery, other than Wiggins and Parker, every one had questions or potential injuries , so what’s your point, that we didn’t get the top pick.

    • vdogg

you have nothing against him personally? LOL. you hide it well, buddy.

    • Al Haldie

      Well you can GO2 —-go2…

    • wow

You have no idea what you’re talking about kid, he had the same vert as blake griffin and he has more of a jumpshot than he showed in college. He’s going to be a 20/10 guy for the lakers sooner than you think.

and he’ll end up sliding to sf i’m willing to bet.

    • Kurt

Not undersized at 6’9 250 pounds of solid muscle and he is athletic.SMFH

    • DKWTTY

You ever heard of this guy named Charles Barkley? Undersized? LOL. He’s one of the biggest guys in the draft.

    • RandomLakerFan

Charles Barkely 6’6 PF…….Randle will do pretty well I reckon.

  • VillainKing

Welcome to the L.A. Lakers Randle..

    • truth24

No Smart for us now stfu bitch.

      • VillainKing

YEAH NO SMART for us Stfu bitch!!!!

  • don24830

Randle will be the next Larry Johnson

  • robert

Nice pick. Zack Randolph is on our team haha. Welcome Randle ! make some noise

  • don24830

kobe can help improve that jump shot, and once he has the fade away 10-15 feet out he will be a nightmare to guard…aka..reminds me of Barkley

    • http://www.haveslot.com/ richard

agree… he can be better than Barkley… in fact, his post up skills is already at par with starting PF’s in the NBA today…

      • don24830

Better than Bosh was at this point

        • http://www.haveslot.com/ richard

Bosh has limited post up game… he is a face to the basket – jump shooting PF… Randle is a low post beast skill level wise… but his game is still has a lot of room to improve.

          • Zimmeredge

it’s crazy how that season at kentucky change the perspective people had about randle. when in HS randle was as big as he is now and played sf/pf face to the basket, drive, ball handle, run the floor and good perimeter/mid shooter. then he went to UK with coach cal who asked him to dominate the paint because he was surrounded by young harrisson’s twins, players who can play outside and so people forgot about his shooting skills and versatality. and now believe he is zbo 2.0 because he is lefty, not athletic blah blah blah. he is still all of this and he will show and proove the doubters. people are hard on him but people were very hard on kobe at the very beinginning.
he is a young, smart kid, with grit and guts, great work ethic, tenacity, leadership and he is starving for rings.

          • http://www.haveslot.com/ richard

Great comment… I have been saying this about him for the nth time… Randle’s skill level is already up there with most starting PF’s… but I didn’t know about how he was in HS… but if what you are saying is true, which I think it is… Randle is going to be a really really good player for us.

  • http://rantsofascorpio.wordpress.com/ Evan

So, can we go after Lowry and Ariza/Deng and hire a coach who has a history of developing players like Randle? You know, like Lionel Hollins.

    • http://www.haveslot.com/ richard

Yeah, go for Ariza or Deng…. and get a good PG and we are set…
      PG: Bledsoe/Farmar
      SG: Kobe;Bazemore
      SF: ARiza or Deng
      PF: Randle/Hill
      C: Pau/Okafor/Sacre

      • Lakers Realist

Is Bledsoe actually available right now?

        • http://www.haveslot.com/ richard

          Bledsoe is still a FA…

          • Lakers Realist

Restricted one, just checked. That’s pretty unlikely for Phoenix to let him get away. Not saying I wouldn’t want the Lakers to sign him but that seems like more of a long shot than signing Melo.

      • http://rantsofascorpio.wordpress.com/ Evan

I’d still rather see the Lakers go after a C other than Pau, unless we can get him as a 1yr guy. Both Asik and Marc Gasol are scheduled to be FAs next season, and both could be the defensive anchor to Randle’s offense.

        • Thomas Klein

I see them going after Greg Monroe, and Carmello Anthony, resigning Nick Young, Jordan Hill, Bazemore, Henery, Ryan Kelly, and Kendall Mershall. That gives them:
          Monroe, Sacre, Hill
          Randle, Hill
          Carmello, Young, Henery
          Kobe, Bazemore, Henery
          Nash, Marshell, Clarkson

    • Your mother

Agreed. Hollins and then Scott. Maybe Hollins is too controlling and they do not like him lol.

    • DKWTTY

      Yes!!

  • jeremy

what one inch going to hurt. isnt the NBA starting to use more under size PFs. heck lakers had odom at one point and he was only a inch taller then randle

    • don24830

but odom had ball handling skills. love odom bad comparison, more like the fact he rebounds aggressively and has a tenacity to finish strong

      • jeremy

i wasnt comparing skills, i was just stating the fact odom was only 6’10 and he was a pretty good PF in his younger years

        • don24830

oh..very agreed. Give me a undersize pf with a chip onhis shoulder over a pre madonna…Barkley…or… Bosh

      • http://www.haveslot.com/ richard

I see a Barkley comparison in him… loves contact, battles inside for every ball, and his low post skills is very very high level…

      • Zimmeredge

are you telling us that randle can’t handle the ball?

        • don24830

Randle is never going to push coast to coast and he is never gonna move to sf in a series

          • Zimmeredge

he did that multiple time in kentucky you weren’t looking… admit you’ve only watched the highlights of him.

          • don24830

college coast is not the same and he never moved to sf

    • http://rantsofascorpio.wordpress.com/ Evan

      Didn’t Odom have a 7’4″ wingspan, though?

  • Kobe Will Get 6

I was hoping for Smart because we need a PG, but I’m satisfied with Randle. I think Randle has a higher upside than Smart, so I’m happy.

    Just hope we can:
    1. Move Nash’s contract
    2. Possibly sign Melo, if not, whatever
    3. Sign Deng or Stephenson or Ariza (if we don’t land Melo), Monroe, etc.
    4. Bring in Lowry or somehow Bledsoe (doubt it)
    4. Resign Hill, Young, Farmar, Meeks, Bazemore (maybe – Marshall, Henry, Kelly)
    5. Maybe, move Pau in a sign and trade
    6. And Sacre well…

    • jeremy

sacre a decent back up who can still improve with the right coaching. plus he cheap

      • Kobe Will Get 6

I wouldn’t mind keeping Sacre, I just hope he can improve his game this off season and contribute

    • don24830

Only two free agents I want to see come over are Lowry and Stephenson…maybe even Ariza if not Stephenson…no melo..no lebron..we win by beating the competition…not selling out to overpriced runners…give me loyalty over fame

      • Kobe Will Get 6

I’m definately not for bringing in competition, but today’s game we do kind of need 2-3 star players in order to compete. I would love for Melo to sign in LA because he could have an impact and I’m a fan hahaha, but I would never want LeBron in a Lakers jersey.

        • don24830

Melo would disappear in the big moments and he can never carry u in the west….wait for Lowry and Randle to get chemistry and then watch wjat happens..u dont need melo…..spurs just proves over and over again and again one great player and and great cast can win ships

          • Kobe Will Get 6

Trust me, I understand why you don’t want Melo, I’m also hesitant. He’s 30 and would take up a lot of cap space and I don’t think he should be here when Kobe leaves, I just would really love to see him and Kobe play together. I just hope if we don’t land Melo, we land a player like you mentioned Lowry and other good role players like Monroe and Deng or Ariza or Stephenson with a good bench.

(Just want to say I’m not fully for bringing in Melo, but I wouldn’t be against it)

    • don24830

Lowry and Stephenson are both in bad situations. Stephenson has no support from his teammates. Lowry has no owners who want to spend and build.

      • Kobe Will Get 6

I would prefer Bledsoe, but I think Phoenix will match any offer, unless he’s over payed. Lowry, I’m not sure if he will be in LA because I’m sure he’ll get a lot of offers, but we need a PG desperately. Stephenson, Deng, or Ariza will be a great fit at SF.

  • Clifford Paul

I would love to see this lineup, I think it could realistically happen

    C: Hill (PLEASE re-sign him)
    PF: Randle
SF: Deng (for 12 or 13 mil?)
    SG: Kobe
    PG : Lowry

    Bench

    Farmar/Marshall
    Bazemore
    Henry
    Kelly
Ed Davis (would be a good pickup)
    Sacre

Sad to say, I dont see Swaggy P coming back. I think Lionel Hollins would thrive with this lineup

    • http://www.haveslot.com/ richard

You couldn’t be wrong with this lineup… and we will be within the CAP …

      • LakersOverEverything

Deng for 12-13mil tho? No thanks. Not for that price

  • independentbynature

I think Randle was probably the best player available.I really wanted Gordon, but he was gone already.

    • give randle a chance

No. Gordon would have been worse

      • independentbynature

Gordon is a far superior athlete and plays very good defense. That’s why he was taken ahead of Randle.Gordon just needs a lot of work on his shooting and I’m sure he’ll get it.You can’t teach athleticism.

        • give randle a chance

No thanks. He is to small to play nba pf and cant shoot well enough to play sf.

          • independentbynature

He’ll be a very productive PF.Blake Griffin couldn’t shoot as a rookie, either.Look at him now.

    • Clifford Paul

I wanted Exum. I was pumped up, thinking Utah and Boston would pass on him, since they both have point guards already. I’m happy with Randle though. High energy, toughness and never backs down.

      • independentbynature

With the C’s taking Smart,Rondo is gone, gone, gone.I thought Simmons was gonna cry.

  • Danny Carmona

Now we need a starting quality pg and resign pau n the bech mob specifically Xavier swaggy and farmar

    • Clifford Paul

Agreed. I think we’ll get Lowry, as far as Gasol, I see him back in Memphis. Xavier showed flashes, and hopefully he can stay healthy (and learn to go right). I dont see the Lakers offering any more than 8 mil to Swaggy P.. will he get higher offers on the open market? I’m hoping he comes back but I got a feeling he wont.

  • Lakers4Life

Great pick! Now hopefully we can trade Randle along with Nash, create some salary space so that we can further increase our chances at LeBron and/or Carmelo. Can’t wait to see the action this summer baby!!!

    • independentbynature

That’s the only thumb up you’ll get…..Your own.

      • http://www.haveslot.com/ richard

        hahahahaa.. i like that…

    • vdogg

i want melo at SF. i don’t want lebron on the lakers. KEEP RANDLE

    • independentbynature

So,you signed out and gave yourself a guest thumb up,too.

  • They call me Pringles

Re-sign Jordan Hill! Hill and Randle would be the 90′s version of Antonio Davis and Dale Davis!

  • r8rcrzz

Great pick! If ya don’t like this pick You don’t watch college hoops. Welcome Julius Randle…

  • Yo Mamma

I think Jordan Hill and Julius Randle are a force to be reckoned with on the boards. I see Randle as a better version of Jordan Hill. High energy and motor like Hill, tenacious rebounder like Hill, but has a way better looking stroke than Hill plus he’s a better finisher. Worst case scenario for Randle, a starter averaging 10ppg and 10rbg.

  • Clifford Paul

So much for Kevin Love though. Neither of them can play center.

    • Ken Cheng

Not many NBA players today can player center.

  • yerp

This is the starting 5 I wanna see.

    PG Lowry
    SG Kobe
    SF Carmelo
    PF Randle
    C Monroe

If we fill out this roster before hand I feel good about our chances at Melo or even James.

    • TheTruthKills

There’s a rumor going around that the Heat and Raptors are working on a sign and trade involving Lowry.

  • DKWTTY

Seems like a really humble and nice guy. A double double machine. Excited to see what he can do!

  • Kurt

Semaj Christon would be a nice undrafted signing for the Lakers SL team.

  • R:D

only block these 29 teams guyz

  • R:D

eat them J.Randle . your the next francise blocker . goo Lakers this our year .defense

  • Rangers

Good pick. Can see 20-10 double doubles out of him. He’s a bigger/ more athletic david lee and more athletic zach Randolph

  • carew10
