Julius Randle was considered one of the most NBA-ready players of this draft class and he came into an excellent situation with a Lakers team in need of talent in the frontcourt.

Apparently, the oddsmakers agree as the people at Bovada have Julius Randle pretty high in their ranking for rookie of the year according to ESPN’s Arash Markazi:

Those odds are relatively similar across the board as Sportsbook.ag has Randle fourth in their rookie of the year rankings with +750 odds.

Jabari Parker is expected to be the leader of the young Milwaukee Bucks. He will be the best player and starter from day one. Meanwhile Andrew Wiggins has the same opportunity in Minnesota with Love gone.

Nerlens Noel looked excellent in Summer League play and looks as if he will be a defensive force in the league for years to come.

Randle will have an excellent opportunity to produce for the Lakers. Whether or not he starts won’t be an issue as he will have ample opportunity to play big minutes from the beginning of the season.

Coach Byron Scott has compared Randle to Zach Randolph. If he can do some of the things Randolph does in this season, he will definitely be a serious contender for this award.

Well he’ll probably have a better rookie year than Kobe, who couldn’t even score 8 points a game. Lucky the Lakers didn’t cut him, the way he was playing that season.

Back in 1996, Kobe al was a 17 yr old backup to an all-star Eddie Jones’ backup, suffered a broken wrist playing basketball prior to his preseason rookie year and was coached by Del Harris. Furthermore, he was a 1st round pick with guaranteed contract and no D-League back then, so they wouldn’t have cut or waived him and Jerry West said he most talented player coming out of the draft…why would you say, “Lucky Lakers didn’t cut him”?!?

      • Zach

Good point, if he actually had a guaranteed contract as you claim than it would have been impossible to cut him, though it must have been tempting.

i think that randle and davis will be starting once the rotations stabilize. randle is not a lock for ROY, but he has as good of a shot at it as anyone.

  • David

He is my favorite player in the draft, it was long before he was drafted that I thought the Lakers should draft him if available because his game is antithesis of Kobe’s and it is very unselfish and he is a willing team player. He will make his teammates better unlike the idol KB who rely on the system with PJ as coach to make his teammates better. KB’s game is to make himself better and not others.

Randle will be a poor man’s Thad Young at best. You heard it here first.

THat’s a very bold statement without even giving the kid a game to play…. reserve it for the end of the season to make that kind of assessment.

    • Lenny

Your wrong. You are going to look stupid once Julius becomes a All Star.

  • Barry

Julius Randle will win the Rookie Of The Year, that a lock to happen.

if wiggins remain as a cavs, randle will be 2nd to parker, remember randle is the 2nd nba ready in this draft below JABARI. yes, wiggins D is NBA ready but not his offense, critics say he has no left, lacks ball handl, and too skinny 6’8 200 lbs compare to PG13 6’8 221 lbs, due to wiggins now a wolf,he will be forced to mature and as most people say, THE NEXT KOBE CANADIAN VERSION OR AIR CANADA 2.0
