The Los Angeles Lakers will face off against the Houston Rockets to start the 2014-15 NBA season with some interesting storylines heading into opening night.

One of those storylines is Jeremy Lin facing his former team for the first time in a Lakers uniform. Although Lin will be one of the main storylines going into the season opener, the Lakers point guard believes he’ll be a subplot on Oct. 28:

“To be honest, I think I’m a subplot,” Lin told Lakers Nation. “I’m glad, but it’s not an opening night centered around me. It’s more Kobe and Dwight.”

Lin went on to compare facing the Rockets to returning to New York:

“It kind of reminds me of me going back to New York. Every time I go back to New York now, it’s not really as nearly a big of a deal. It was James versus Melo, and now it’s Kobe versus Melo. So, I do think it’ll be fun. It’ll be interesting. I think we’re all pretty excited for the game.”

Kobe and Lin will be highly motivated to get the season started with a win at home against Dwight Howard and company. Beating the Rockets in Los Angeles will be a perfect way to usher in the Byron Scott era. Lin has the opportunity to make a case as a starter or a serious threat off the bench as a Laker while Kobe can shows he still has something left in the tank.

Lin’s position on Scott’s depth chart remains uncertain. All indications point to Lin starting at the point guard position, but Steve Nash could still be the number one option if healthy.

Regardless of which floor general gets the nod on Oct. 28, the Rockets visiting the Lakers to get the season underway will be must-see television.
