Is Phil Playing the Right Rotations?

Starters: Derek Fisher, Kobe Bryant, Ron Artest, Pau Gasol, and Andrew Bynum.

This is our best rated five man unit, according to 82games.com. I have never been a fan of the Andrew Bynum-Pau Gasol front court tandem. They just can’t consistently play well together, which is surprising. Andrew Bynum is the best young center in the game not named “Dwight Howard”. Pau Gasol, who can play Power Forward and Center, has attested to the fact he prefers the Power Forward slot, which allows him to face up to the basket more often. They’re both great passers (with Pau being an elite one). It should be a match made in heaven.

While this lineup can be devastating at times, I don’t think the Lakers are at their best with it. Bynum and Gasol seem to both struggle with when to be assertive and when to cede to the other in the post. Still, the Gasol-Bynum quandary is a problem that every other team in the NBA would love to have.
